Yes, you're mistaken. Smed said in his Twitter that people who subscribe before the next phase will be considered veterans for the purpose of joining with the veterans.

To the OP: Use the search function. This has been asked many, many, many, times since Smed said this.

Just know, that this is not a demo. This will be a buggy beta. Maybe even game-breakingly so for a while. You will be expected to report bugs, and there is expected to be many.

If you are just looking to play the game early, which I suspect, you're better off just waiting until Open Beta. Otherwise you're gonna have a bad time if you expect the game to be perfectly playable 24/7.
