Here is an example of someone running BF2 with triple monitors, NVidia's GTX 680 SLI with BF2. Is anyone planning on doing this with PlanetSide 2?

Looks confusing :s
I would rather stick with one monitor...

The two side monitors distort the picture way too much for my liking.

Not a fan of the multi monitor set up to be honest. Not to mention it takes fucking 3x the cost to do it for literally the same performance, except better FOV and it's cooler I guess.

The thing is though you better have IPS panels cause TN will look like shit with those 2 monitors that are turned in some.

The color on the side screens looks odd. I would be way to distracted by that. Not sure if that is normal since I never really seen triple monitors in action.

This set up is certainly for people with extra cash to spend. It's more of a "Cool Factor" thing and a "Damn this game looks good, so why not?" kind of thing.

That looks like a bit much, I would love to just be able to put a full screen mini map on a second monitor....or possibly split between minimap and continent map.

Yep, but at least these extra two side monitors are literally "extra" because they are so far to the left and right. So it's not like you're relying on looking at them every few seconds. You'd just look at them when you need the extra glance. It may even help you scope two door ways at once when you're defending a CC or something..

That's what the iPad app is for! I'll have my iPad running along next to my Gaming rig for sure! I'm really curious as to what they'll allow the public access to for creating their own Planetside 2 Apps.

i already have the monitors, and if the game allows it to look good (which they say they will - like moving the ui) then 3 monitors is going to rock... wide vision and good information.

Also you can do this with pure software, as long as you have 2 graphics cards...

We could write to those nice people who won £148,000,000 on the euro lottery to kit us all out :-)

im running triples, and really FPS games, dont really have it figured out yet
now iRacing has it figured out the best,by rendering 3 screens separately, with bezel correction, look up iracing vids on youtube, but it is for sure a lot more immersion

im with the guys looking for one monitor with a second for miscelaneous things like maps or chat logs.
i have an HD widescreen TV i will be running with my new computer, and i dont see a point to stretching the picture out to side monitors.

if someone had the money for 4 monitors, side by side and stacked into a square, that wouldnt distort the picture, but would probbly be cheaper to just buy a big tv.

so what exactly is the point besides "cool, why not"?

Doubt I will ever have enough money to get enough quality pieces to do this.

That would be the only thing I would do with it. Get all those pesky (but necessary) UI features out of my way.

Yeah. Having a map up all the time on a second monitor would be incredibly useful.

I already got a really big screen, having 3 of them would be overkill. :P

Just get a bigger screen. Like seriously, what's next, 9 monitor compatibility?

they might have that already lol, i know i saw a showcase of an nvidea card powering 8. but i agree, a larger monitor is simpler unless as stated we can put specific thing on seperate monitors

i know some one that has 3 55 inch Sony TV's for his iRacing rig,and some guys have 3 over head projectors,so they dont have to deal with bezels

I could see running 1 monitor with the game and another with the app to keep an eye on the big picture.

Boone is right, Dude in the vid is running TN panels. Though to be fair you wont be seeing them from this viewpoint, you will be closer to perpendicular to each panel face.

Sub 24" eIPS monitors with 5-6ms refresh rates aren't all that expensive compared to TN panels, though you have to get 3. (full IPS larger panels would be a different story cost wise) The main cost is the video card(s) needed to get good quality/FPS at that resolution.

However the nice part about this is, next cycles video cards will run current games even better, so later on in the PS2 lifespan these costs will continue to drop to where more people can run multi-monitor setups with less relative horsepower compared to today.

The vid is not the best example of these setups, but not bad.

If PS2 confirms multi-monitor gaming (dont know why they would leave that feature out since most modern games are supporting it), ill drop some good $ on it.

Just get a bigger screen. Like seriously, what's next, 9 monitor compatibility?

At the moment crossfire allows for more than triple monitor gaming (nvidia currently limited to 3x monitors for gaming, and 1 monitor for not gaming) and since you asked and its quite badass, ill refer everyone to check out this setup for a good example of whats possible right now. (no this isnt me)

you can get a single ATI card ,that has 6 mini DP ports

zomg
2012-08-15, 04:26 AM
Did that with Live For Speed and BF3 (although not much with BF3 as it performed way poorly on my setup).

1 IPS panel in the middle, 2 cheapo TN panels on the sides. As long as the TNs are oriented properly you won't really have much probs with color distortion.

You can do this with most ATI cards using their Eyefinity features with just one card, and as far as I know, many newer Nvidia cards will also run Nvidia 2D surround or whatever it's called with just one card. It generally works if you hook up two monitors with DVI and one with DisplayPort or HDMI.

But good luck getting good performance out of it with a single card. 5760x1080 resolution needs some muscle in the GPU dept :D

I switch over to my big screen TV and wireless keyboard/mouse for games usually and I can't imagine liking anything else more than that it satisfies my need for extravagance completely. :-)

I have three 27" monitors that are 1920x1080. I play alot of flight sims and 3 monitors really add to the immersion. Although for PS2, ill probably orient them in landscape mode. I have them mounted on adjustable arms, so changing the orientation is very simple. Having them in landscape mode instead of protrait mode should give me a resolution of 1920x3240, which will get rid of the stretching on the outside monitors, give me a shit-ton of vertical viewing area, and still be roughly a 16:9 aspect ratio.

i gots 3 asus 23 inch monitors. its been confirmed to work in planetside 2 if the vidcard has the sac for it.

yes generally all games i have ever played with these the side screens zoom and angle distorting them slightly. you get used to it. they are called periphreals. i do not usually stare at them. but i cannot count the ammount of times i seen a flash of color or movement and beat the other guy with tunnel vission as a result. kinda in a way its pay to win like the advantages a good mouse n keyboard might give you. with usually around 70-80 degrees per monitor in games that is a large field of vision. in BF2/3? lol, if your in a tank the sides go static prolly the case for sniping as well.

im running a gtx 690 and i tend to play on medium or custom settings. however. i can play for hours on high or more and not have problems. im just... paranoid so if im not showing off i take it down a notch. i spent alot of money on this. thats 3 months of chickenweiners and my incometax. so if your going to do it, you got to really want it or have gone your whole life not even knowing they made 89 cent chicken weiners.

i am going to upgrade my videocards to play this game in eyefinity. do you think it would be better with AMD cards and Eyefinity, or Nvidia and their stereo 3d?

Roidster

well it comes down to cost,AMD of course is the cheaper option of the 2,but also you will have to download flawless wide screen plug in,if you want to use any vehicles in PS2

once you go 3 screens, and if you ever have to go back to one,it feels like if some one has a wide screen ,and had to go back to a 13 inch CRT monitor, its horrible, thats what i had to do until the guys from widescreen forums made a pug in for PS2,for when you want to use vehicles

Id rather see it support the Oculus Rift next year. That thing is a game changer. But, its gonna need some things added that the game right now just wouldn't be viable for the Rift. independent head tracking would be one, as well as some side to side and forward back leaning motions added so you don't puke. But just imagine being INSIDE ps2. its a day one buy for me.

I have been using eyefinity for a couple of years now, i think its absolutely awesome. its hard to go back once you get used to it, but i get its not for everyone.
