List your top 5 pc games of all time:

BUGGER

Tribes 2
FSX
Planetside
UT
Doom

The amount of time spent in the first 3 are unparalled. UT was my introduction to online gaming. And Doom is that scary game you played when you were 8, that more or less introduced me to a mouse.

Planetside
Nothing has ever come close.

Delta Force
My first game and probably the most important since it was during the 56K modem days where you had to compensate for full seconds of lag instead of milliseconds.

UT3 (Instagib)
I perfected the fundamentals I learned in DF. If you could hang with the top players in there you could compete with anybody in any game.

Rome: Total War
The only game where I was more addicted to the single player than multiplayer.

COD: United Offensive expansion pack
Don't hate me...cod was good back then. The expansion had big maps and vehicles and was the most fun I had since Planetside.

Company of Heroes: It must be a great game if it can get me to put in so many hours online even when I'm not that good.

KOTOR I & II: I consider them one and the same, there's not really a huge difference, and I beat 'em twice. To put it in perspective, I rarely read a book or play campaigns more then once.

BF2: I loved all the battlefields (yes even BF3) but in terms of time put in, BF2 no question. Solid game and a lot of fun.

Empire Earth: Best one

Comanche 3: Going back into the late 90s, a helicopter sim. Beat the damn thing 5 different times and still loads of fun

Honorable Mention: Hearts of Iron 3: I love the game, still needs a little bit of work, but there's another expansion coming so maybe it'll crack the top five.

Because I'm a punk (and an old fart), here's the 5 I came up with:

1. Night Shift (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_Shift_(video_game))

2. Armor Alley (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armor_Alley)

3. Ultima IV (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultima_IV:_Quest_of_the_Avatar)

4. Doom (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doom_(video_game))

5. Another World/Out of this World (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Another_World_(video_game))

Special shout out to Ultima Underworld (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultima_Underworld:_The_Stygian_Abyss) and (Apple ][) Short Circuit (http://classicgaming.gamespy.com/View.php?view=GameMuseum.Detail&id=216) and Spare Change (http://classicgaming.gamespy.com/View.php?view=GameMuseum.Detail&id=111).

Great list, Cycles! Ultima IV and Ultima Underworld could reasonably make any list of the Top Ten Most Influential Games. Particularly Underworld - this is THE basis for the first-person shooter as we know it (since Underworld leads to Wolfenstein 3D, leads to Doom, we all know the rest).

For anyone who likes these sort of lists, check out http://www.unikgamer.com/, it's pretty fun.

Quake (Single player gameplay plus the NiN music was over the top)
Quake II (First real multiplayer experience with LAN style gaming)
Command and Conquer, Red Alert. (Two words. Tesla Coil)
Company of Heroes (Most of the German phrases I know are from this game, not like I'd use them to order coffee in Berlin but its still the most authentic as far as ambient atmosphere in a game that I've seen)

That's only 4, but I'm not going to put something up there that doesn't deserve it.

Noticeably absent from this list:

Planetside (wanted to play it, never had the rig or the $ for a sub)
Other games Ive spent way more time in than the above (they are fun, but don't compare to the level of awesomeness from start to end in the above)

1)Morrowind
2)Age of Empires 2
3)Call of Duty: United offensive

Not really in any specific order:

Planetside-franchise (might also include PS2, might not! ;) :D)
WoW
Tibia
APB (both original and Reloaded)
Red Storm Entertainment-era Rainbow Six-games

MaxDamage
2012-08-21, 11:02 AM
May as well all be different genres then:

In a most specific order:

1. Planetside (MMOFPSRTS)
2. Quake III Arena. (The single best arena-based FPS)
3. Skyrim. (RPG)
4. Warhammer Online. (The greatest PVP system in any MMORPG)
5. Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun. (The last RTS I played properly)

For those who might wonder why I chose Skyrim over Morrowind or Oblivion, to you I say: each to their own, but I experienced and enjoyed MW and OB to the fullest. Skyrim just felt more like 'Home' as I have always been a Nord in TES games.

Quake
Quake 2
Quake 3
Tribes 2
Unreal tournament

top 5 is too short :c)
I would argue that it is one entry too long. I was with you until unreal tournament. xD

Both of them are amazing, the only shame with KotOR II was that they were forced to finish it which caused a lot of content to never make it in-game. There's a mod out there that will add some of the removed content back in the game though, you can get it here (http://knightsoftheoldrepublic.filefront.com/file/TSL_Restored_Content_Mod;115177). (Not 100% it's the latest version, so do a double check)

That was a really fun game to, last one to Orion is a rotten Gnolam! :D

I think there came a point in the game when things took a nasty twist you'd unlocked planet building from asteroid field debris plus having a bunch of the Doom star planet destroyers, no more occupied enemy planets, begin operation CLEAN SWEEP!

Suddenly every race wants to be your friend again

damn, am i really the only one who knows starcontrol 2, or would put it on a top 5 list?

those of you, who don´t care for top notch graphics, but love a great space epos with a fascinating story and loads of aliens who all have their own personality, try star control 2!
it is a kind of action adventure and you can play it for months. it is even free now because it went open source and the fans made an excellent new version for actual operating systems.

there also is an alien race in this game that EXACTLY talks like stew!
Yes! We do! Goodbye is the *Game*. Hello!! I am only joke.

One of my most favorite underrated games was Jupiter: The Nexus Incident; it's reminiscent of Homeworld, which was epic.

Awesome space battles in 3D with customizeable ships of all classes using true Newtonian physics and firing arcs battling it out through an excellent story line. :)

Unreal. This game brought me from the mundane world of the office I worked in to an eerie, amazing 3D world for the first time!

Deus Ex: the first one. This brought me, again, into a whole new world, but one where alternative ways of thinking about government were the main point of the game, and the outstandingly realistic scenarios were just the delivery system. And, the ability to go two different routes, too, was cool.

Unreal Tournament: playing against actual people.

Mechwarrior series: Ultra-customizable mechs made for intelligence-heavy gameplay.

Planetside: runined my life for nine years.

Homeworld (the series)

EVE Online

I've been playing some Mechwarrior Online (closed beta) and it's really made me remember how much I enjoyed the Mechwarrior series. I also heard of the Baldur's Gate remake and that put me right into a mental orgy of rememberance. So, if I could expand upon my list it would be as follows:

Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn
Half Life 2
Mass Effect (haven't played 2)
Fallout 3
Titan's Quest (Diablo clone I like better than Diablo)
Fable
Torchlight (Another good Diablo clone, my brother says the new one is exceptional!)
Mechwarrior (series, I think my favorite was MW3)
Jupiter: The Nexus Incident (I'm a total sucker for space RTS, good graphics, fleet customization, and true Newtonian physics)
Myst (who hasn't played that game?)
Civilization (series, preferably II, preceded by Colonization way back when)
Commander Keen (series, favorite was 5 and 6)
Kings Quest (series, I don't recall my favorite)
Raptor: Call of the Shadows (best arcade-style scroller ever, possibly excepting the very similar Raiden)
Klingon Academy (oh the destruction!)
Star Trek: Starfleet Command (series)
Star Trek: 25th Anniversary (yes, I was a Star Trek geek)
Star Wars: Galaxies (I quit not long after the combat upgrade patch)
Star Wars: Jedi Knight (series)
KOTOR (duh)
X-Wing: Alliance (I missed out on Tie Fighter but loved this sequel)

Honestly, I almost want to just expand this list out to most of the games I ever played for more than 10 minutes, but the reality is that it would probably end up being a list of almost every Star Wars and Star Trek game ever made between 1995 and 2005. My brother and I are/were huge sci-fi nerds. It's a shame the quality of sci-fi games has been so poor in the last few years. Or maybe it's just that I don't play all the games I used to, and I'm missing some really good stuff. Regardless, wake me up when someone makes Freespace 3 or Homeworld 3!

Deus Ex (the older one. Epic storyline before the whole grays and area 51 mess).

Halo CE (Damn you microsoft!)

Morrowind (But only with Bloodmoon expansion werewolf=fun)

Devil May Cry 3 (DANTE MUST DIE!)

Splinter Cell Chaos Theory (The co-op's quite fun when not playing with whiny sods that don't like planning)

BF43

BF43?! are you from the cold, dark future where EA has gotten its way and released the 43rd sequel to the Battlefield franchise?!:cry::eek:

No better, I'm from the past when FPS didn't have K/D and Battlefield 1942 was the funnest team based shooter ever.

I actually brainfarted and called it BF43 instead of BF42 oops:

Hmm

In no particular order:

Planetside (Prior to allowing BR40)
DAoC (Pre TOA)
Shadowbane (...yes despite the bugs, hacks, and ARAC zergs)
Master of Orion 2
Baldurs Gate

... Then games that should have made the list based on pre release design plans and hype, but ended up switching design direction and being disappointing...

Planetside 2
Darkfall
Master of Orion 3

5 Top:
PlanetSide
Battlefield 2
Command & Conquer: Renegade
Company Of Heroes (+ Opposing Fronts)
Crysis (+ Warhead)

5 Worst:
CoD 2 (The sole reason why most of the following CoD sucked so badly)
FEAR3 (a shame to the FEAR series IMO)
Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War: Soulstorm
Section 8
Sniper Elite: Nazi Zombie Army <- You can never call any game shit unless you tried this one

Honorable mentions also go to:
Dota 2
Counter-Strike 1.6
World In Conflict
Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun
Splinter Cell Chaos Theory (Versus Mode + Unified Map Project maps)

SixShooter
