View Full Version : The worst pc games you've ever played?

I'm bored, I'm not in beta yet, Smite has become stale. We have a best pc games list, let's go for the worst. But not in gameplay, but in functionality.

I'll begin to explain what I said:

Mass effect 2-3:
This is an utter joke of a pc game in my opinion thanks to one huge flaw. The "Space does everything controls". I understand, in a good game like Tribes, having the jump and jetpack bound to the same button. But why in the hell do we need Pick up weapons, sprint, use cover, mantle/vault/, talk, use, skip cutscene/dialog and choose dialog option bound to the same button? All of my deaths in those games were thanks to the stupid controls.

Splinter Cell: Conviction:
As anyone knows, most recent ubisoft games suck on the PC. But this one I hated the most. As with mass effect, space does most of the things. C does the rest. Again, most of my deaths are thanks to trying to silently kill someone, and instead kicking down a door and destroying any stealth I had. But that's not it, no crappy port is complete without a lack of graphics, mouse sensetivity adjustment and no control of mouse smoothing and aim assist. Wonderful.

Global Agenda:
Despite being one of my favorite games of all time, the user interface is the absolute worse I've ever seen, probably on par with Skyrims. Bad colour choices, hard to click on things, it bugs out a lot and it's extremely hard to find what you what in your inventory.

What about yours?

Mass effect is a console port, space is the remapped x button, that's why.

I guess splinter cell is a port too.

Global agenda is just shit

The Mass Effect series was amazing and the ending was fine... it's all damn bandwagon hate. "Hey, that ending was pretty goo... oh, what? You guys didn't like it? YEAH ME NEITHER! IT SUCKZ!" I've never seen so much bitching over a ending in a VIDEO GAME. But the fact that you call it an utter joke of a game because of the space bar is laughable.

But yes, Ubisoft fucked up Splinter Cell and Global Agenda is a pretty bad game imo.

ThermalReaper

I don't give a crap about the ending. The controls just broke it for me. I had to fidget around half of combat time trying to get the cover system to work correctly without vaulting over what I'm trying to take cover behind, I was being slowed down most of the time because I was sprinting and then I entered a dialog with an NPC thanks to the limited sprinting time.

I remmember finishing the third game...and I was speechless,
not because it was good but because it was confusing and stood against the game's logic.
Bioware just need to admit they phucked it up.

I'm guessing someone's butthurt it isn't a PS1 clone. ;)

The worst PC games I've played?

RIFT was fairly terrible. Albeit I only played in the beta for a very short while.

Mount and Blade: With Fire and Sword was also a step down from the usual awesome of the M&B games. Luckily Mount and Musket/Napoleonic Wars fixed that issue.

I don't play bad PC games, only good ones. Though I have done some unfortunate stumbling.

Firstly: Carnivores Cityscape. I like Carnivores 1-3, because Dino Hunting was a neat novelty really. Cityscape wasn't hunting though, it was a budget FPS game, that really sucked. I could see it going for an AvP grab, but it was bad.

Star Wars Droidworks: I mean, it can be fun, a little cool. But it's also really frustrating, and trying to play it on a modern PC is a joke. Completely broken, even with Compatibility Packs (For e anyways, maybe it was my computer though for that), but without a compatibility pack then the game was just broken control wise. Everything else was fine, but controls were fucked up. Playing it on a Windows 98, well, I realized I wasn't missing much.

Doom Shovelware. Hahaaahaaaahoohohohoooo haa haaa OH HAAAA HAHAHAHAAAAAA OH DEAR JESUS HAAAAAHAAAAA OH GOD HAHAAAHAAA LOLXDDDDDDDD LOLOLOLOLO HAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Fuck you Hell to Pay and D!ZONE.

Mine sweeper is probably the worst one. I hate that game. Oh or maybe that chess game I played one time that cheated. It did. I was like, "oh no you didn't" and it was all, "oh yes I did". That's what ya get for open source programs. I bet someone, somewhere thought that was really funny.

Most of the games listed here aren't bad. Diablo 3 and the Mass Effect series were both good solid games that people like to obsess over thanks to their own expectations not being met. All games have problems if you nit pick enough but actual bad games don't need to be nit picked to find the problems.

My friend has a rule for determining if a game is good or not. If the time he spends in the game is greater than the amount of time he would have gotten for spending the same amount of money going to the movies, it's a good game.

Chubby Chrystal, Hellforces ,maybe somebody want to hear this but Empire Total War.

Have to agree E-TW was a terrible game, the whole combat design of the musket fights is just aweful.

I have over 400 men lines up with muskets and here comes the enemy into rifle range......... pop ...... pop..... pop, Why did only 3 of my men fire?!? why are all the rest now waiting for those three to reload before they shoot, Oh look the enemy are in range and they've wiped out my side with a volley.
Okay you lot fire at will...... no idiots fire at will means shoot when the enemy gets in range not break out the tea kettle and have a cuppa in the middle of a warzone.
I give up, milk and one sugar

The TW peeps don't know how to make a game with guns, their mechanics (to sound redundant) are TERRIBLE!

What's worse is they put the gun mechanics back in for Shogun2 and ruined that too, directional shooting with arrows are you fucking kidding me.

I'm hoping against hope that they use the shooting system from R-TW or M-TW2 for the next installment of Rome or I'll be a sad bunny. :(

Diablo 3 was probably the most disappointing in a long time. Played D2 for years. Could barely play D3 for more than a few months off and on. Poor excuse for a game that took so long to come out, especially compared to the second.

Especially considering that there were lots of mechanics in the developer preview in France from 2008 that were actually cut from the final game to make it 'easier'.

If you haven't given Torchlight II a try yet I would have to suggest it, I'm finding it to be everything D3 wishes it was.

Battlefield Play4Free gets my vote. Players were totally screwed over by EAsy late last year.

Want to pwn noobs - buy a Grenade/RPG booster! Or perhaps rent an attachment for your gun so that it will actually shoot straight. So blatantly pay2win.

Worst gaming experience ever; shame, because before EAsy really started ripping players off it was actually a half decent game which would run OK on low spec PCs.

Left a bad taste in the mouth; never again.

Universal Combat. The tutorial assumed you know the dictionary sized control scheme for ALL sides of combat. How to Play? Don't install.

Had to bump this thread when I saw this. I know there are a few dogs back there in the recesses of my memory that were games I hated, but for the most part I found them playable. More recent games that were a let down, maybe SWTOR... I had such high expectations and well... such a let down and the "free" to play model is horrendous.

Darkfall:Unholy Wars has given me a new appreciation for PS2. I don't know how a company can announce a graphics update to their game and then quite literally break everything about the original. Really Darkfall 2 was actually SUPPOSED to be a re-skinning of the original... you know the thing everyone loves to say that is what they want from a sequel? But instead they went on and quite literally everything they made changes too from the original, they made worse. I also call BS on their "debug" mode... whatever they did is simply a dog to run and they are using "debug" mode as an excuse. Can't believe I put money in that pile.

ANYWAY on to Universal Combat. Back when I bought this I know I looked at PS1 and said "no way i'm paying a subscription for a game". wasn't for a few years later that I played PS1... sad panda I skipped it. Universal Combat per the description (and honestly the potential to be) everything Planetside could hope to be if it were a single player game. But it was so grossly complicated that potential couldn't be reached. I think I still have the box... and the 500 page manual.

Where to start...

Due to unfortunate circumstances (friends, writing reviews for a mag) i had a more than fair share of abominable crap games to play during my life.
But none of it, really none of it, stood out like this horrible nightmare inducing freakshow excuse of horse manure. Behold the truely most atrocious experience i had to endure during my ~20 years of video game playing:

The "Cho Aniki" Series:

I played tbis version for the SNES:
(not my video)
Video Games that SHOULDN'T Exist - Chou Aniki SNES - YouTube

If it wasn't obvious, it's from japan...

...and i got paid for playing that game.

EDIT: And yes i'm aware the thread title says "PC" games, but i am sure you can find a pc version. If you look for it...because i won't.

lol I know I put up Empire TW but my friend from London was over with me yesterday and he told me to try out the game again, that they'd fixed all the problems with the combat gameplay. Me being Mr Cynic of course didn't belive him but after staying up till 6am today I have to say I'm now withdrawing it as one of the worst game ever. It's actually playable and fun. When you tell a squad of line infantry to attack someone.... they do, ABOUT TIME!!

Still hope they don't have the stupid direction ranged attacks in Rome2 tho ;)

Dungeonbowl was bad. really bad

If your not familiar with it it is a modified bloodbowl, a tabletop football/warhammer fantasy fusion.

1) the game is meant to be played in open areas, dungeon bowl took place in.... dungeons, the bloodbowl rules dont work in tight hallways, you need open areas for the game to work, strategies like passing and speedster teams did not work
2) It took away AI. Thats right. You had to play this game with other people, with as low pop the game had it was normally impossible. The game is literally unplayable.

Star Wars: Rebellion, never forget...

I tried to damn it, why did you have to remind me

Worst?

Probably Stronghold 3. I supported it for a time because it looked like they were going to fix a lot of it's problems, and then... nothing. This is probably one of my biggest disappointments.

Command and Conquer 4. God, where to start... Downloaded this and C&C 3. Played 3 and Freaking Loved it... played 4... I stepped outside my apartment and started screaming incoherent swear words at the sky.

Battlefield Bad Company 2. I have heard the MP is good, but I don't give a shit about MP, I wanted to play it because BFBC the original looked genuinely funny, and I thought: "Hey, PC version, might still have humor, and battlefield, 1942 was a ton of fun, lets see if they have that whole 72 NPCs and 1PC fight like they had in that game" I quit 1 hour in.

Omerta: City of Gangsters. Got this one for free when a friend got 2 copies. It was worth every penny.

Neverwinter Nights 2. This is my favorite worst game. I played it for years, but in final analysis, it was a second rate crap sequel to one of the greatest games of all time. Buggy game, dodgy design, restrictive builder, arbitrarily difficult scripting language... This is why when someone says: "Obsidian makes some good games" I laugh in their face.
