Hey guys, I am in the market for a new microphone since my dog annihilated my mic for my headset :(

I was going to purchase a stand-alone microphone since I can't order the mic for my WOW headset unless I live in the US (it's a long story and I think Creative Sound needs to update the way they do business).

Anyway, back to the topic. I know Hamma uses a stand alone mic and it seems to work just fine. Anyone have any suggestions that isn't more than $30 but still works great? I am worried about having to lean over all the time when I speak while playing.

I have used this for as long as I can remember, and it's always worked great, I've never had anybody tell me that they can't hear me.

HOWEVER: Use headphones, as these things will most likely pick up any sound that is coming out of your PC. Also, you better be using push-to-talk, too. Nobody needs to hear your mom yelling at you for playing video games or something.

I would be using push to talk and I would be using a headset - thanks for the link!

I may get a stand-alone mic as well because I already have a really good pair of headphones. I usually hate the cheap headsets with mics and don't want to shell out another $40-$80 for a good set.

I heard being a lone wolf is bad. Maybe you should get two just in case.

I have a logitech like those linked, bought it locally and had to return the first one, second one has been working for over a year so no complaints really. I use it for PTT with headphones so cant say about ambient pick up.

I had one of these it performed pretty well but soon had problems with it that made it practically unusable I didn't even move it really. :|

Just thought I'd suggest maybe looking around a bit more. :-p

The Samson C01U is the only one I know to be decent.

Don't buy something that connects with USB if your computer has a mic port on the motherboard or a sound card.

I used the simplest boom mic that came with a computer in 1998 for like ten years, it worked great until I broke it durring move.

It looked just like this but in 90's computer beige:
