Sorry if already posted somewhere but I did actually search first.

Has anyone else unlocked the 60mm mortar for the sundy? This is the more expensive bigger mortar option?

Does anyone else find it incredibly disappointing?

1. The distance on the range lists it as "very long". The total range when shooting on a flat service is exactly 100 meters. This to me is "very short". The m12 gun lists its range as very long also and can hit targets at ranges in excess of 300 meters. I believe this to be a mistake and needs to be corrected.

2. The damage is just about no existent.
* Example one (main example) - while fighting next to a building spawn point was sitting in sundy in open area. Over the next 30-40 second no less than 11 enemy infantry and no less than 5 enemy maxes spawned and walked out of said room. Now, 30-40 seconds is a long time, and during that time I fired no less than 20 rounds straight into these large groups of enemies. At one point hitting a single group of 2 maxes and 1 heavy dead center 6 times. During that 30-40 second run I got a grand total of 0 kills.
* Example two - Tested mortar damage on friendly teammates willing to help. Used 1 medic, 1 heavy, 1 max, 1 atv, and 1 lighting. All 5 units grouped up. After 5 mortar shots dead center into mass 0 kills. The medic was at 40% life, the heavy at 80%, and max at 100%, the atv at 60%, an the tank at 100%.

So between the incorrect range and the nonexistent damage the item is a worthless investment.

Anyone heard if they are going to change this?

Near as I can tell, the weapon stats and descriptions are close to worthless at the moment. Compound that with the perception that very few things have had their initial balance pass, and you've pretty much got a crapshoot when in the store.

If you want maximum bang for your buck, hold out for something that has "rocket" or missile" somewhere in the title or description.

I've heard the mortars are completely worthless currently. Low fire rate, very short range due to poor arc, low projectile speed, and very small splash damage radius. General consensus on the official beta forums is DO NOT BUY.

Keep in mind however that the development team is still focusing on optimization primarily. They've not really done any balance passes thus far aside from a heavy-handed slap to AA which they've yet to bring back in line.

The Mortars are mainly ATM for camping positions. You can equip one on the right hand side of your Gal. Land it on a tower, switch to the seat, and dominate the doorway of main opposition. Pretty cool. Sundys main enemy is air though i find, so probably better sticking with anything that can shoot those FUCKING Reavers. haha

I've used mortars on several vehicles now, all I can say is SATELLITES BEWARE!, all others carry on as normal ;)

It has one savage firing arc, trying to lead any kind of shot with it is pretty worthless and the explosion radius seems very small.
thought I was dropping rounds right onto a group of huddled infantry hiding around an out door capture point. I was seeing a few hit markers but not a single kill not matter how many shells I lobbed at them.
Not a fan of it

The mortars of PS1 had the same problem and the dev's back then did the only clever thing, reduced the range and flattened the firing arc right down.

All mortar type of weapons in this game sucks... If you ask me. It's defiantly a thing they need to take a look over.

I've noticed more of a problem with explosions and splash damage in general than with just mortars. Firing two AV MAX weapons simultaneously seems to have less of an effect than to fire one slightly after the other (direct hits). And aside from a direct hit, the HA missile launcher tends to be rather weak on all targets. Is it just me or are other people noticing this too?

Note that these are just observations I've made through regular gameplay. I haven't taken the time to actually test out any theories.

Yea I've heard mortars are garbage but I've never actually used one.

I'm fine with the arc. Makes firing difficult. But range needs to be at minimum double and blast radius tripled if damage stays the same. All jmo of course.
