The common consensus is that Infiltrators are a sniper type role and should stay back and travel from snipe point to snipe point using a cloak. I would personally play Infiltrator (gonna get a new PC at christmas can't play ps2 yet) like the name says in where I cloak around a base or outpost holding my sidearm and hacking points and if I see a Max I'll flank him and plant a c4 at his feet.

Tl;DR: Use Infiltrator the way it's name states.

Yeah. I'd like it if they had a seperate class dedicated to sniping all on it's own but what we have now works as well.

They are getting longer cloaking and more weapons they are infiltrators and one of their tools happen to be a sniper rifle. They dont need a separate class you have custom load outs that should fit the bill.

I never said they needed a separate class but what type of Infiltrator would use a sniper. If he's Infiltrating an outpost I don't think that sniper is gonna come in handy much.

"Hmm I'm cloaked and there is this light assault right in front of me. Just need to get out my sniper..."

Yeah but, to each his own, no one is forcing you, its just right now inf only have one main weapon in game and no vital hacking so people go sniping. This will change later. Personally Im gonna roll spec-ops type long cloaking and close quarters weapon and c4 blowing shit up

What bugs me is that if you choose to be a sniper you have to pick a class called Infiltrator which is what most snipers never do.

I remember them saying there will be different cloaks, and that some of them wouldn't even allow you to carry a sniper rifle. Sounds like the type of gameplay you're going for. ;)

A real world sniper IS an infiltrator its the foundation to snipe. They infiltrate behind enemy lines to take out VIP targets its a very fitting name, kids that like sniping will pick them regardless of what they are called. And the rest of us will use them to do actual important things for our teams like back hacking, and now when they are trying MAXes from terminals only no spawn in, infiltrators will get a hugely raised importance in attacking bases :D as a result.

Last night, I used an infiltrator as a Ground to Air Spotter. I never fired a shot from my rifle. I was a forward observer for at least a good 2 hours.

I had a reaver on call, when a target came into the area, I set up a way point in the general location then talked the Reaver pilot on target. We where at Zurvan Amp Station and by the time we finished we had roughly destroyed almost 15 enemy tanks. That was with one Reaver, a whole lot of enemy air, and one Forward Observer. No Deaths on the Forward Observer and two lost Reavers. Not a bad ratio honestly.

I didn't get a point of XP the whole time and frankly I didn't care. It was a blast. I was doing what most actual Snipers/Infiltrators do. Now, when/if Spotting bonus xp is put into place that will change a bit on getting the XP.

My point you ask? Don't get hung up on wordage or the name. Just because you play a "heavy assault" doesn't mean you have to run in screaming, acting like a "tank" trying to kill everything in the room. You can customize your weapon and actually sit at a good distance and snipe with an LMG. As the OP stated he wants to sneak around in base and do sabotage missions. Go for it. The class fits it. I've seen some Infiltrator players who only use the cloak and pistol and do a right fine job of it.

The name is just a name. Play in your style and work at what makes it work for you.

I agree with this point wholeheartedly! The current discussion on infiltrators reminds me on the whole "Recon vs. Combat Recon" debate in BFBC2. Whenever a class has a sniper, people assume one of two things; that they are supposed to sit back and snipe, or that they need to get up close and be an aggressive scout. Usually, the latter opinion comes from the name, in these cases Recon and Infiltrator.

I feel as if it would be a good idea to make a few videos highlighting the differences between Infiltrator playstyles. Not only will it be a good information source for newbies (since it will be coming from an original beta tester who loves Infiltrators!), it might help to pacify any arguments about the state of the class in such a way as you stated in your last sentence.

Sniper, Saboteur, Aggressive Scout, Scout, "Spy"... Not only does it seem fun to film, it will be really fun to think up all of the archetypes and different playstyles!

The infiltrator is missing its second cloak and hacking tool so there's not much to say about its infiltrating capabilities. These tools would increase the chaos in the game and I can understand if the devs want to wait until they get a clearer idea of how the game should flow before adding powerful disruption tools into the mix.

This is an awesome way to play Infiltrator. Using the cloak to find a good position and then spotting the enemies and helping your team. If only more people in Battlefield actually did this.

Now imagine how useful an infiltrator would be if he manages to hack one of those new MAX terminals with the hacking tool when it's in. A squadron of infiltrators sneak in, and a squadron of MAXs stomp out :D

Well, I was doing infinitely better with an Inf as a CQB fighter, and I even had the option to spring onto someone from a chameleon state. As a sniper, I could not make it work at all. So I prefer assassin-mode.

Why sniper or ninja? I prefer to combine the two:
Phase 1 - Sneak up to unsuspecting TR
Phase 2 - Line up headshot
Phase 3 - Decloak
Phase 4 - ???
Phase 5 - Profit

Wanted to play Infiltrator from the start but currently there is no much use as it bacially is a sniper. Holding on to that Auraxium until I can make an Infiltrator out of my infiltrator. I actually wish you were able to choose which weapon to start with. At least of choice out of two (SMG or sniper)

It was pretty surprising to me that the new infiltrator is also the sniper, but hopefully it can be played like the PS1 infiltrator after leveling up the certifications.

Too bad they took out lockers. Mine was filled with Scatter Pistols.

the infiltrator class,is getting no love from SOE right now,all you really can spec in is sniper, there is no hacking, anyone can capture a point, hell you dont even have to get out of your vehicle to capture points
