The game is very similar to BF3.
It's just way more fun and the sun doesn't blind me at all angles.

Even for all the things I don't like about PS2 so far, I think it's way better than BF3. BF3 just pissed me off and felt like a giant leap backwards gameplay-wise from BF2 despite getting a facelift.

I don't think PS2 is much fun yet with all the work it needs, but it still beats the crap out of BF3.

I like both BF3 and PS2. (Hate CoD)
BF3 has better optimization, sound, particle effects, and graphic IMO (Yes, I know PS2 is still in BETA :D). Other than that PS2 is superior.

Planetside2 GOOD! :D
BF3 BAD!
I was a big fan of the BF series, had loads of fun from 1942 to 2142 and all the wars in between even in some bad company too ;) but BF3 was a real step backwards imo.

They each have their merits, and cater to different gameplay styles. Much like comparing BF3 and CoD is silly, it's also silly comparing BF3 and PS2. Different games. Apples and oranges.

I have played Ps2 beta once at my friends house, don't have a rig yet so I'm not in beta gonna build one mostly for this game and work.
I have armoured kill on my ps3 already with premium played all maps once and that was that, does this answer your question? :(
PS2 > Bf3 on whatever platform.

your thoughts?
I have logged over 10,000 hours in the BF franchise and stopped playing BF3 in April because while pretty to look at the gameplay is a shell of the other games in the series. Also for those who did not see the value in buying Premium we were basically limited in our server options additionally DICE had consistently lied, misled, and ignored it's customer feedback on BF3 so on principle alone I had to walk away as well.
PS2 looks to be the succesor to BF2142 on steroids, BF2142 was the most balanced of the BF games and probably the most polished as well from a tactical standpoint.
PS2 when all is said and done will be the thinking persons shooter with teamplay elements that BF3 has completely ignored on a massive scale, oh and it's quite pretty in it's own right.
PS2>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>BF3....

At the moment - no.
Generally speaking, BF3 offers more sense of accomplishemnt. Plus, PlanetSide 2 as of now has quite several balance issues and unfinished gameplay concepts/aspects.
As far as I can tell, Beta is Beta, and I hope it stops being Beta prior to launch.

TBH, Battlefield 3 kept me interested longer than the current state of PS2 Beta. There's something about it right now that makes it very boring to play. Mostly considering how now the fighting only occurs at the pre-defined locations - North-SouthWest Biome Border, The Crown, Allatum, Hvar, Peris and Zurvan. Not like this is happening 24/7, but it is getting boring really fast. And the game also feels very incomplete, but not in small details as in certs and weapon balance, but on a more global level... Must be a prejudgement, but it almost feels like the devs skipped forming the summary feel of the game and went straight down to trivia, without hesitation.

I enjoy PS2 Beta more then BF3 beta.
As I did not play the finished product (BF3) I think I won't be able to compare both. But as I dislik BF3s changes in terms of pacing, gunplay, map size, focus on choke points etc PS2 is more to my liking. I even feel that BC2 is superior to BF3 as it is less of a "mishmash" that BF3 seems to be by trying to appeal to everbody and every taste.
But of course it's hard to tell from this early stage.

I think you are not exactly objective.
PS2 is BF3 as of now, just with persistence.
Each facility, not counting outposts, is basically a Battlefield 3 map with 2-5 minute breaks between matches (except for Zurvan for a change, which is more like the classic base and feels way more intuitive, and Peris being somewhat of a tug-of war, that you can still easily lose, though which needs to be reimagined). As I said, right now PlanetSide 2 needs waaaaay more polishing before it "kicks bf3 in the sack" and I hope that happens before launch (or even Open Beta, because of later being a Demo version in fact).

I like planetside 2 alot more than bf3. I played bf3 since alpha so i have a good deal of experience with it. Its a good game too in its own right but I kindve see what people are saying about it feeling very similar to COD. Im so burnt out on all those real world shooters though thats one thing that makes PS2 a clear winner for me if nothing else is the fact its sci fi.
Used to be there was a lot of sci fi shooters, now they're very rare so im thankful for the setting and the weapons if nothing else. Also its hard to compare the two because while theyre both shooters planetside 2 has three factions, BF3 only has two. Not to mention the persistence and I have a great outfit I play with that really works well together and i played bf3 with a small group of friends and pugs so PS2 all the way for my vote.

Have to agree with Newsith, whilst I really want Planetside 2 to be vastlty superior to BF3, I think it has a huge way to go yet.
PS2's guns, gunplay and feelis pretty 'meh' at the moment and doesn't really have an 'MMO'' element to write home about.
To be fair, I think it's too early to judge at the moment but some of fundlemental elements such as base design, lack of sanctuaries, command structure, logistics need so much attention that you do wonder if they'll fit it all in prior to release!

We attacked this base on foot the other night. I had pushed forward trying to split the TRs gunfire and the entire squad had pushed into this little gash in the earth that I was using as cover. Very quickly the TR had us outflanked and I thought we were FUBARd but at that moment the VS attacked from the other side of the base. Within moments all of the terran defenders had turned and went on to meet this new threat. The little squad I was in swept into the base first killing the TR who had apparently forgotten about us and then the VS who I imagine were kind of suprised we were there at all. You just wont ever have this scenario in a smaller arena style game.

As it is now in beta? No BF3 is better. Even though the combat mechanics are similar, PS2 fails to deliver any feeling of accomplishment in the game play. At least in BF3 you get your medals and you have your weapons to unlock. Also you actually win a map in BF3. In PS2 the fight never ends. Even though there is a 5 min lock down on bases after a successful defense or takeover of the base, it does not stop the fighting over the base. It will continue until ever one is bored and move away.
I know this is not how the game will be when it goes live but for now BF3 is still a more fun game to play.

You can say what you want about the game play, we all like different things. But saying that BF3 is badly coded and ported console game is bullshit. And the support is not worse then in any other game. If you truly think that you have very little experience of playing different games. I can name allot of games that are 10 times worse. The truth is that BF3 code is as good as you can expect from any game. And It's not a simple porting over to PC. The PC version was developed at simultaneously with the console version. TBH I just think your still pissed that it is not BF2 with new graphic engine.

Hmm a lot of BF3 fans here I see...
A BF franchise veteran here :). I started playing BF games 10 years ago... and I can say that BF3 is not one of my favourites. As a game isn´t bad, but it´s far away from BF 1942 or BF2. People can say what they want but BF3 was created for consoles, is a real fact (there is not any real map for 64 players in PC, 50%+ of the maps are shit CoD style, etc).

I agree, there is a reason I put thousands of hours into previous BF titles but stopped playing BF3 after 140 hours........it's boring, not challenging at all, and predicatable. One of the major issues with it also is it should be called BF Bad Company 3. As a BF customers this is not about simply updating the graphics and cookie cutting BF2, its about being honest with your customers and creating a bigger BF expirience as the game evolves. They kept player counts at 64, maps sizes are smaller than before over all, less vehicle diversity, less team work involved, no voip, ect.
I see PS2 as a sequel to PS1/BF2142 more than anything right now.
Also for those who need to chase a carrot and get a medal or some constant recognition that you did a pretend something in a pretend war your missing the true satisfaction of out witting a human opponent to achieve what your trying to do and prevent them from achieving what they want to do. That is where your real satisfaction should come from not some pretend medal.
Then again we can have no losers anymore can we.....everyone gets a trophy.
Also the BF3 forced unlock system is boring compared to giving the player the option to pick and choose what they want to unlock, but I guess some people are just happy to have others tell them what they should do next. Sheep will be sheep.

Well before BF3 the most popular BF game was BF: BC2 and the Bad Company series was made for the console so it's not that surprising to see that they took things from that and put into BF3.
But saying that there are no maps for 64 players... What about Caspian Borders? And there are also other maps that I feel are "empty" with less then 64 players on it.
And no map in BF3 are as shitty as in any CoD game. Sure the infantry only maps might remind a little bit about them because they are infantry only but they are still better then in CoD.
And BF 1942, 1943 and Vietnam was not really better IMO.

BF3 would not be a Bad Company title. It's even closer to being Battlefield then being Bad Company /imho
It's just this strange hybrid that is neither Battlefield, nore Bad Company. It's something inbetween and looks like it either does not know what it want's to be or just deperately trying to appeal to everybody.

We did this awesome base assault the other day. We lined up on this bridge as a squad of LA and base jumped, before I hit the bottom of this 400 foot drop I tapped my jump jets and landed softly carbine came up and a terran instantly died under combined fire. We moved quickly through the base overwhelming all opposition before they could organise an effective defense. Now that was bad assed.

No we are talking about facts here not opinions. Fact: BF3 does not have more bugs then BF2 or any other Battlefield, Call of Duty or Metal of Honor game.
And I would not call my self a BF3 fanboy. Sure I admit that I think its the best FPS game that been released during the last 5 years or so. But FPS games are not even my main type of games. I'm allot bigger fan of the Total War series then I'm with Battlefield. But I would say that my main type of games are old school MMORPGs. So if you want to call me a fanboy call me an EQ fanboy.

Am I the only one that actually prefers BF3?
PS 2 atm seems to lack 3 major things: Prolonged action, focus and accomplishment. As a newbie, you feel totally desolated. Way too much downtime to get into any action and once you managed to get in, you die in seconds. Unless you are lucky to find some organized and communicating squad which happened to me only once, this game is downright boring so far.
I really hope my luck will change, because atm I'm feeling this PS1 syndrome. I could never get into that game because of the downtime.
Don't get me wrong, I prefer the tactical and strategic potential of PS2 by far over the relatively shallow game play of BF3 but that game has at least some pretty important basics right:
- Focus. Especially on Rush modus: it's always clear were you need to go.
- Awesome and non-stop action: Zero downtime and shooting Karkand to rubbles on a high-end PC is an unmatched experience. Weapon handling is tight, although COD is better at this.
- Decent variety. Enough weapons, maps, game modes and expansions to suit your needs.
- Balance. It's always work in progress but especially after the latest patch, many issues were fixed without going overboard.
The balance between instant action/fulfillment and strategy/accomplishment is always a delicate and a hot debated one. On one side of the spectrum you have Eve Online (I got a lot of accomplishment out of that game but it's 99% down time) and on the other COD (-like) games. Instant action but that's more or less it. PS2 and BF3 are in between these on there own side of the spectrum, but so far BF3 has done a way better job at exploiting its strengths imo. PS2 desperately needs more focus, accomplishment and tools for tactical coordination.

Eventually though you should try to join an outfit. Best way to enjoy the game with a regular set of friends so you won't be subjected to the pot luck of randomness.Thks for the advice, that's what I figured as well. So after seeing some nice massive Max crashing and carpet bombing on Total Biscuit's PAX video's, I decided to join the Devil Dogs outfit. That immediately made for a way better gaming experience, although I'm still not 100% sold on the pacing of the game.
