I am better on December at some point.

Most of the things that take a lot of time, such as the backend are done and most of the tech issues (not all, but most). We are really beginning the balancing and design phase, which I see no problem being all of October and November.

Either way, at some point you just have to say "Things are in a good state" and let the general public in. Since they are continuing to patch and design after that, there's very little reason to wait until like March or April.

Well, they have a lot of work to do between now and 31st December to get this game properly playable and suitable for general release. I hope the guys can do it and I wish them all the luck.

A horrible buggy launch is something PS2 could do without.

Warning lights came on when I read this. I mean Smedley said that they had learned their lesson, no more buggy, unfinished launches anymore. But now they have fenced themselves in with a release date under 3 months away, and a game that is still very rough and has lots of problems still. I'm not saying the game can't be finished (loosely used term in light of the 5 Year Plan SOE has but I mean major bugs gone, performance much more optimized, balance massively revamped) in that amount of time but what if it isn't? They have effectively promised the game will be out by then and will have to either rush the game out or let people down by extending the launch. I dunno, doesn't look incredibly promising IMO.

Edit: I have tweeted at Smedley to get a confirmation on the launch date being before 2013, still waiting for a reply.

They plan on releasing in 2012 but they have left themselves room just incase they do need more time. If there's no launch in 2012 you're getting your stuff by the end of 2012. Who knows what they may need to change in beta before the game is ready to be officially released.

The wording is there because if you're paying for all this stuff then you should know when to expect it.

If they launch this year, then Im worried. They seem to be rushing it/tight deadlines. firefall has been in beta for a year before the founder package was released. Beta just started for PS2 and they already have done this founder pack. Not sure why they are rushing/desperation for money but thats how I see it.

Has there been any confirmation on # of conts at launch? I know they originally said 3 then T-ray gave that interview at Gamecom where he mentioned launch with 2 then a 3rd shortly after. If they are going with just 2 then it is more likely to launch by end of year.

I'm pretty sure they said all 3 conts will be in at launch.

The most recent statement is definitely two, hopefully three.

Anyway, as far as "playable" from a technical standpoint, there are far from 3.5 months worth of technical bugs left. Given the optimizations they did through August till now, on a technical level the game would be in a release state far before December 31. Anyway saying otherwise has either got to be trolling or hugely braindead.

God help us if they do. No certs, only one cont, incremental changes still being thrashed out in base design and the infamous FPS issue... and that doesn't even address the touchy subject of weapons balance.

My best educated guess remains next summer.

December 31st is always going to be a placeholder date, even for a free 2 play game wont release on that day, since the overtime would be cost prohibitive, since more stuff goes wrong during the first week of release than anyone can imagine, so the majority of the team will have to be available, unlike during normal running, when its the support staff most likely.

They are also not dependant on a before christmas release, as the christmas rush is to grab money from parents and grandparents buying gifts for their kids, f2p removes the need to reach the x-mas market.

Is this official confirmation of a pre-2013 release date? What do you guys think?

all i can say is dont get sucked into that

sure you get your 4000 and beta access immediately, but once the betas over and the retail version comes out, there is a very big chance all stats is going to be reset, meaning anything you buy with that 4000 SC will be gone, and your SC will not reset back to 4000 when the retail comes out, the license to play the retail game doesn't even come in the Alpha squad pack and the only thing of value in that alpha squad pack is the SC, its just a marketing scheme to get you to buy SC

there is no way this game will be released this year and will be whole, its still got enough issues to be classed as not completed atm

Agreed. Every project has a deadline and an initial budget. There HAS to be one, else the team will fiddle and tweak and add "cool stuff" and generally screw around and burn money.

Not sayin' that deadline is set in stone, but it's most likely made of some fairly hard stuff, so that it can't be hit AND passed through without some hurt :D

If they continue updating on this tempo, I think they can make it.
They are probably testing the other continents on the same bugs that this one has.
I think they are pretty fast and spot on when it comes to the optimization of things.

I might be wrong on this, I dont know what features are still left out for us to see.
And those could also create future problems that could maybe take a long time.
Who know's ?
firefall is in beta for about a year, but in my opinion that game still doesnt come close to this game on all kinds of aspects.

im open about release dates but alot can be done in 3 months. iv don a lot betas and alphas and you'd be surprised at how much work can be done in a short period of time.

i hope they do it correct and make as good as possible before release. corporate pressure is always a factor.

Maybe all this will be granted during OB, just for the sole fact that there won't be a character wipe after that.

I pray that release isn't for at least 5-6 months.

And how do you know this?

Judging from other games that did founder's packages.... You will get any "cash" spent back after wipes. As if there was anything to spend it on...yet.

Will be hard to use SC in PS2 in beta since they don't allow it. And Higby said last night on AGN they aren't allowing SC usage in beta. Only after launch.

Ok since no one seems to be reading my post from earlier:

Smed confirmed that the "release date" provided was just for legal reasons! He still says the game will release when ready!

Also, as for the guy who said all the SC you spend will be lost on the reset...you can't spend station cash now. The store will not be unlocked until release, or at least, no Sc can be spent until release. That would be a huge dick move of Sony to wipe purchased items from the game, not to mention it would probably be the downfall of the game if that were to happen lol.

Thats normal, but i really hope it doesn't got live till the game is fixed, as it sits right now from previous beta's i would guess this game is still 6+ months out from release. I'm thinking q1-q2 2013

Hey look, I was right.

Looks like more people got suckered into a static date. Game is in beta. It'll be released when it's ready. This is just there for the sake of putting it there, or as Smed said, "For the lawyers".

Just play beta and help make the game better. Quit speculating on stupid things.

Putting Smed's quotes together, it's definitely launching in 2012. Who knows how many continents, but who cares - more content will be built.

I'm thinking launch before Christmas, and that's before the Founder's package came out (I mean due to finances and general launch strategies and the alignment of the moons I thought that before they even said December 31st as a placeholder in the FOunder's package).

Remember Sony isn't doing great financially, there will be, I think, pressure to deliver the moniez on this game substantially before whenever their fiscal ends (this is what I think at least, happy to be corrected!).

It seems like semi-confirmation. November/December has clearly been their launch target since before Beta actually started. The Devs at the time also stated that they may push that into 2013 if they need to. The real question is where the Publishers stand. Obviously, they want to make money ASAP (one of several reasons they are offering Alpha Squad), so they are putting pressure on finishing sooner rather than later to keep viability. If it's "close enough" they might push to launch it then even if a few planned features have to be delayed to content patches, just to get the game (and the store) out there.

I don't know enough about SOE to really say if they'd do that or not. All I know is that the Devs are committed to getting it as "finished" as they can before release, and at least initially were willing to delay if need be.

I hope, that date is tentative predicated upon quality assurance. There is nothing I hate more then a crappy launch. Ask Funcom why its not ok.

The only game that successfully made it through an extremly crappy launch and makes more money then most mmo's out there is WoW. And, we all know the reason for that.

It's because Blizzard send heroin through the internet cables and routers, isn't it?
