Somebody posted that site a long time ago. It's a little guestimator.

Even if it's just guesstimating . . . it's pretty impressive, and given the amount of beta testers out there it's probably fair-to-middling accurate.
Anyways, it's definitely given me a rough feel of how I want to spec already.

I think the costs of the certs is too low. You'd be able to get way too much stuff if everything ranged from 1 to 3 cert points.

not really if you do battle rank 20 you get alot of stuff but you can be a commando you get all types of armor and weapons but nothing els play with it a little you see

Nah, I'm sure it's too cheap. You'd be able to get all the utility certs (hacking etc), reinforced, a mini-chaingun, and a basilisk for personal transportation. With so much available to you, they might as well not even have certs, because at a higher level virtually everyone will be able to do everything apart from some pilot roles (and even then, a pilot will be able to pilot everything and then some).

If you feel that some of the things are too cheap, then double them. For example, crank up the MAX's to 4, and maybe some of the equipment to 3-4. Then just do the math in your head.
Still, I probably won't rely on this thing. I'll wait until I'm in the game looking at the certification screen before I decide my how to spend my cert points.

I was pointing out that I think the person who made the site was being too generous with cert costs, not whatever it is you thought I meant. I was remarking on the inaccuracy.

I agree.

Also this was made long before beta began, and there weren't very many screens. From screens I've seen, the Bolt-Driver is most likely 3. I agree with War.

I think its almost completly acurate. A little here and there will need improvement but it seems like it works.

Look at it from the other angle.
A new characters comes out of VR training as Battle Rank 5 with 6 Cert points.
It's just enough to upgrade armor, pick a weapon and choose either a vehicle or equipment cert.
If the certs cost more than are listed in that utility, new players won't have enough certs to be very useful.
I doubt it's 100% accurate, but I suspect it's close.

That's subjective. Works according to who's idea of how the game should be?

How is someone in Rienforced with a Punisher/Cycler (or its counter-parts) considered to be not very useful? I really fail to see how someone won't be able to contribute to a battle with Reinforced and a Punisher.

If you add just 1 point to each of the Certs, Reinforced and Medium Assault would be a total of 7 points.
You'd need Battle Rank 6.
My point is that in begining players need can't be 100% specialized, it'd make them easy targets. If certs are any more expensive than shown in that utility, they'd be forced to.
Want to start out as a driver/pilot? You wouldn't have enough cert points to also get an armor & weapon upgrade.
So, you'd be dead outside your vehicle.
Want Advanced Medical? You wouldn't be able to upgrade your armor (and the inventory capacity that goes with that, so you couldn't care more 'juice' cans) or your weapon.
A medic with starting armor & weapon would be an easy target.
See what I'm getting at?

Yes, I see what you're getting at, but I don't consider it an issue. If you immidiately take piloting skills instead of armor or a weapon, that's fine, and yes, you are specialized. Get used to it, and make sure that you don't get into a lot of fighting outside your vehicle (which won't be hard if you're in a fighting vehicle, as you have the luxury of dying with your ride).
As for Medics/etc, you have the option of either getting medical skills immidiately and sticking to Standard Assault/Agile armor until you get more certs to buy better armor/weapons, or you could buy better armor/weapons immidiately and do the medical skills later. It's up to you, but either way, nobody will ever be able to be the perfect character when they start. You're always going to have defficiencies, and that's part of what makes leveling up fun -- seeing yourself become a more rounded and versitile character.
Oh, and, a guy who wants to get some medical skills shouldn't worry too much about not being an actual medic until a little later. Medics are fighters too, so you'll be able to get some practice before as you slowly build up the certs for Medical/Advanced Medical.

I would not use that to decide what you want to do just yet. Its a bit inaccurate ;)

its fairly inaccurate, alot of the things on there are 4 certs not 3, and 2 certs not 1. and seeing as to how u only get 1 cert per level that makes a big diff

Oy.
Ok... So...
The first couple of weeks after launch will, essentially, be nothing but gropos running around (with little to no hope of finding a ride) attacking the enemy in 'human waves' trying to build up cert points.
>shrugs< Only a problem at the start, but I think it'll make things a tad boring.

Um.
or they spend a lot of time in VR? . . . . I dunno. Wouldn't that work?
Btw, anyone else notice that the 'VR' worlds are just the same thing as an ordinary terrain, but with a grid pattern as the detail texture? Pretty original application I thought.

VR training will only get you to BR 5 (according to most of what I've ready, I've seen 1 post saying VR only goes to BR3).
mr_luc
2003-03-24, 03:05 PM
Yeah, but won't that (with their starting points) be enough for vehicle certs?
Augustus
2003-03-24, 03:23 PM
Vehicle, yes. Armor/weapon upgrade, no.
May as well "go down with the ship", since you won't be of much use without it.
i posted this a LONG time ago, form when i was barely a recruit, say about 7 psots.... :D :D :D :D :D
