I get 1.5 - 2.5 mb/s download. Gotta go cable. Except when it comes to upload speeds, but I get pretty decent pings in Tribes 2 servers with 32v32 pubs, so . . .
What *I'm* drooling over is yer damn 46-inch monitor, Unico!!!! Post a pic?

Sure Burning.. I'll have to check online for it since I don't have a dig. camera.
~cable is great, but it'll be a month before I can get it, so I'm getting dsl this week just in the hopes of getting on the open beta list. I'm sure most of us would have done this if given the opportunity. Also, cable down here is limited to 256k upload... not bad, but not good enough, aye? :cool2:
BurningSpear
2003-03-25, 09:06 PM
yeah, i think 256k upload is the standard for cable, but i could be wrong. like i said, tho, i still ping awful nice in heavy traffic servers. 2000k/256k cable is hella cheaper than anything more on dsl, btw, even sacrificing some download bandwidth to increase upload.

Trebor,
I personally would never buy a proc that's more than 300$ - and I believe the Barton 3000 is close to 600$.
The difference in fps are practically insignificant when compared to cards like the Barton 2500 and the Thoroughbred 2700. Save your cash yo, and upgrade economically.
What would really make your rig fly is a Radeon 9700 card. Just wait until the 9800 comes out by April... the 9700 will come tumbling down in price. I couldn't wait, of course, since I want to get on the open beta list. :p

overall i think my comp is da bomb, exept for crapy video card, will that card even work with PS? whats a good card, GeForce4 Ti?
SpacemanSpiff

I THINK that card should work with PS... go to the official site and check out their most updated specs.
The most economical video card upgrade would be the GeForce 4200. Besides the upcoming FX card, the GeForce 4600 is probably the best nvidia has to offer for the moment. Of course, if you want the BEST video card out there right now... upgrade your card to the ATI Radeon 9700 pro (it has to be PRO).
Athlon 1.4
256 PC2100
GF2 MX400
SB Live
Sadly i probably won't be able to upgrade RAM and VPU for a while. :ugh:

256k upload? Ah, then I misunderstood... I didn't know you got cable. Well, blech then. I'm spending the extra money for better latency and 768 SDSL (that's up and down).
The only reason I'm getting broadband is for PS... and it's all about the upload.

pretty good altogether ;)... but i wish it would stay closer to 512k
Trebor95
2003-03-27, 06:46 PM
I dont think you will ever get full 512k and 256k - its something to do with bits and bytes, and the line quality, its basically like 56k - its very difficult to get full connection speeds on normal lines (if not impossible to get true 56k connection)
the speeds you are getting sound about right, you wont need to get rid of the router i dont think, unless it prevents you from accessing the servers etc. etc.
Gammit10
2003-03-27, 09:11 PM
Actually, with my 56k modem, I regularly recorded speeds of 52k. Now, with my1.5Mb broadband, I have YET to record speeds under 1.3Mb. :D
For $15 a month, I'll take a "slow" upload speed of 256k with a dl speed of 1.5Mb!!! I'm sure I will have problem 0 playing PS with that upload (and no, it's not ALL about upload speed)... at least, that's what I was told.. hoping it's true.
Yes, that's 1.5 MegaBITS per second. MegaBYTES would be nuts.
I have DSL. How do I tell what my download/upload speeds are?
