View Full Version : Switching certs and implants?

I'm curious. Can someone take some of there cert points, and switch them to something else?
Let's say someone has some certs to drive a Vanguard, and they want to drive a Reaver. For arguments sake, lets say they require the same amount on certs.
So can someone take the certs they have for a Vanguard, and put them for a Reaver. Then kill themself, respawn, and then is capable of flying a Reaver?
And could ppl switch implants around like that?

TRscpd is correct, you can change your certs - it takes 24 real hours from the time of removal for you to select another one.
Im just not sure about implants, and if they work differently. I know you can only have 2, so it may be you can change these on the fly.

Ok but for most (0-19) of your career you will have 2 or less!

Actually you could have 3 implants by level 9.....
But back on topic here.

For as long as I have been interested in Planetside it has been 2 implants - this 3 implants thing must be a fairly recent addition?

Me too Revolution...
From Official FAQ:
Implants
What are implants and how do I get them?
As you gain battle experience, you will gain the ability to use up to three implants. You can acquire implants at any Implant Terminal.
Can you reveal some information regarding these implants?
Each character can gain up to three implants in the course of their career. This access is gained at certain Battle Ranks. Most implants can be turned on and off at will, but use Stamina to power them. Therefore, extensive use of Implants can eventually tire out a player and make it difficult for them to run or jump. The offensive or defensive boosts gained by Implants must be balanced against other needs. Implants range from regeneration to personal shields to advanced targeting and more.
Will there be a limit on the number of implants that can be equipped?
Yes. See above. You cannot have more than three implants at one time. Many implants use your Stamina in order to be activated (bioenergy). You can have multiple implants activated, but you will run out of Stamina more quickly that way.
Official FAQ states up to 3, but Im guessing that the last one will only be achieved at the pinicale of your career, not as Ghost suggets, level 9, more like level 18.
From PSI FAQ (not typically known for its accuracy!)
What are implants and how do I get them?
As you gain battle experience, you will gain the ability to use up to three implants. You can purchase (and sell) implants at any Implant Terminal.
If that remains true, that you can add and remove implants at an equipment terminal then I guess that answered the original question :)

Can you point us to where you gained this information TRscpd or are you guessing...
My guess would be at levels 6, 12 and 18, 6 levels apart.

well i looked at it this way you get lvl 5 really easy and it takes a little time to get to 10 and even longer to 15 and really slow for 20.
well if you put thos together you can think of away on how it works :P and that you get 3 and am guessing they want to start at 10 and end at 20..
but i think its the right way on how it well work

Although I'm basing my opinions on the unofficial certification calc. At lvl 6 you get the first implant and every 6 lvls after.
As always this is subject to change and there is no proven answer yet :D

Certifications may be traded back in for cert points - i.e. they can be switched around, BUT it takes 24 hours of real time (not game time) per cert before u get the points back. The idea behind this is that u can switch your certs around in order to prepare for an upcoming battle in which u want to be a pilot etc, but u cannot simply change your certs on the fly while a battle is ongoing.
As for implants, I think 3 is the maximum, and they can be switched around with no time penalty whenever you are at an implant terminal in a facility or your empire sanctuary.
As far as I know, this information is true at time of posting, but of course tweaking is in progress, so nothing is finalised yet.

i think 24 hours is a tad long to be honest. 3 or 4 hours would be better in my opinion.

BUT it takes 24 hours of real time
Yup, thats what I said :)
And I don think its too long, any shorter and you kinda defeat the point of specialising classes. I dont think you should be able to change them AT ALL, but thats just my opinion. That view would probably piss off the hardcore FPSer who just wants to frag and be done with it.

not sure about hot swapping implants, but certs take 24 hours to unlearn, nd during that time u cant learn or unlearn anything else
Implants can be swapped instantly at an implant terminal, as per a recent preview.

The 24 hour limit is there to stop people from easily swapping skillsets. While you aren't locked into a suck set of certs it promotes picking a path and sticking with it. It's all about complimentary niches instead of flip-flopping from l33t 9ja haxxor one minute to Johnny the Walking Pillbox the next.
Some folks, myself included, favor even longer intervals. If a long-term investment in the game is really intended I could see 48, 72 or more hours as the buyback time per cert.

Does it work like you can remove a cert and then in 24 hours you get your points back or do you keep your original cert till the 24 hours is up and then the change is made from certs to points.
I was under the impression it worked the first way but my friend had the idea of the second way as it isn't specified on the site whether you lose your first cert at the beginning of the 24 hours or the end.

I'm pretty sure you keep the cert for 24 hours, after that you get the points back and lose that cert.
