View Full Version : Please make vehicles tougher and remove FF..

Seriously you can just land with an aircraft on low health and it'll blow up. Also I landed on top of a bio lab and the aircraft just blew up for no reason and the same thing happens on a slope or if there is the slightest touch of a parked vehicle. Aircraft don't just randomly explode, they have to rupture their fuel tank which on these aircraft would be such a big ask seeing as they don't have weak wings.
The other thing I hate is since a couple of patches ago ground vehicles receive so much damage from going over rough terrain now. Well considering these islands are really hard to navigate as they're so rough this is a pretty stupid change. I can just go over bumps to get to where I want to get to and then I have to get out and heal because I've lost 1/4 of my health.
I added FF to this because it's another thing that gets on my nerves. There is no reason what so ever to have friendly fire in the game, just make it so bullets do not go through friendly's so you cannot exploit. All that has happened with FF is people constantly shoot each other from griefing or because this game has so many people packed into tight indoor areas at times that you're going to hit a team mate every now and then. It just becomes really annoying and makes the infantry game really tedious, especially since half the people seem to be lagging and you'll see them warp about.
The worst thing is how most the time you either run people over or get run over because again there is so many people trying to get out or in the tight spaces in and around bases that you're bound to hit people. The worst is when they're standing outside a terminal and auto drive runs them over for you. Weapon lock is not a good feature, especially the way it is implemented, most players wonder what the hell it is, get frustrated and just quit, there is no UI indicating what it is and how long you will be locked for which creates more frustration. It is so easy to get run over by people too, I ran next to a vehicle, didn't even tough it and some how it run me over, there was a 2m gap...... Another time someone ran into my tank and got run over.... just turn FF off, it serves no purpose and doesn't heighten anyones experience, there is nothing in the gameplay that adds to being able to kill friendlys.

Yup you have to be very careful when youre crowded together not to shoot your buddies in the back.

i like ff. stops nade spam and means more tactics are needed and more coordination.
aircraft landing with low health is a pain atm. but im sure something will be sorted. i just land steady atm and im ok. as for the rest. just the nature of the game. people need to watch where they are going more and dont drive off a cliff lol.
i think the other vehicles are ok. just aircraft need looking at.

Jesus Homer, what happened to you.
No FF. Wow.
Granted, there needs to be a lot of work done on collision detection between infantry and vehicles, but under no circumstances should FF be turned off.

FF must stay on.
Vehicles being squishy though... Wouldn't mind if they were tougher to kill.

Removing friendly fire from the game would be a pretty epic disaster of non-stop AoE spam, not to mention an absolutely ridiculous prospect from a narrative perspective. I can suspend a ton of disbelief - a whole bunch of solders running around unloading magazines into each other's backs is comical and a bridge too far.
Check your fire, for fuck's sake. It's not hard. And if there's no conceivable way to safely wedge your firing lane into the zerg at the Crown, perhaps it's time to hop on flashes and flank over a hop to the next territory. There are literally only so many useful square feet for any given combat location. We can't all be in the same tower fight.
In the last 20 hours of play, I've been weapon locked three times, and I deserved each of them.
On the UI, you have a good point. You should be able to see your approximate grief level, and how many seconds remain until you decrement.

FF is absolutely necessary to the game. If it wasn't there everything would be a rambo explosives shitfest akin to Metro 64 player. Watch where you're shooting and you'll be fine.
Seriously. Am I the only person who hasn't gotten one weapons lock since the start of beta?

I've never had any issues with weapon lock. Occasionally I get a friendly kill when someone decides to stand infront of my turret while i'm firing full auto. Or 1 or 2 of my shots hit a friendly who was aready 99% dead and I accidently finish him off. And there is the occasional grenade that does an insane boomerang bounce and comes back the wrong way.
I wouldn't be sad to see friendly vehicle collision damage go away, or be reduced by a very large amount. Your own team's armor is often more deadly than the enemy's.

I've landed a Scythe that was completely red on the armor indicator. You just have to be careful....
And no, please do not remove FF. I, like many other players prefer to discern targets then fire, not just spam everything to high-hell.

As others have said removing FF would rank as one of the worst things SOE could do to Planetside2
The damage and consequent grief points from Vehicles to Infantry needs to be adjusted a bit, but that's all.

Friendly fire is one of the things that makes Planetside 2 the game it is. It encourages tactical thinking, which is exactly what the game is about.

If you're getting grief locked then you're doing it WRONG:)

Some state that nade spam will be an issue if they remove grief. Is that true for PS2? I know it was for PS1. But in PS2, you can't have as many nades as you could in PS1 @ one time and they are limited by resources.
Here's my ideas to improve FF issues:
Separate grief into different types: Vehicle Driver & Gun. This way you can set different cool down rates.
Appropriate cool down rates for each grief type; Which shouldn't be too hard to balance if you do all the steps I list here. ;)
Make grief increment based on amount of damage done consecutively, per type.
Better visual indicators and sounds, each one different per type of damage being done. The message on the screen is cool but I'd rather see it in flashing red in my chat bar and another type of on-screen hit indicator that looks unique and shows on the target I'm hitting.
More distinct Doppler effect sounds for vehicles approaching. Sundies need horns | Galaxys need a cool sound effect horn to use when landing.Helps ground troops distinguish vehicles approaching so they can get the heck out the way.
Let's add in a mini-lock if you reach a certain amount of grief. And consecutive locks after for doing further grief (x amount) after getting locked the first time. Each time the longer the lock will remain.

And he stated in another thread, that he played Planetside 1 only for 3 months in 2003 before he quit.
@DjEclipse
In any other game, people teamkilling would be voted off the server.
Weaponlock is necessary to make sure that FF is paid attention to and FF is necessary to make sure that this is not just a grenade spam/zergfest.
@Crator
Different types of grief would be a good addition, as you have no control of vehicles in the first seconds after spawning them, sometimes you are totally unable to NOT drive over someone running on the "street".
Horns would also be great, especially for Galaxies leaving soon.
Just use a sound like this and everybody in the vicinity knows which Gal is going to take off soon.

the only ff i have had is when a muppet runs in front of me when shooting at a target. dont know about you but if a guys is firing a shit loads of rounds running in front of him is a bad idea lol.
ff is needed and people just need to use their heads a little. it ill be fine as people learn how to play this type of game with such a large battlefield and so many fighters.

He may be pessimistic but he is at least voicing his concerns now is the time to do it. So even if I don't agree with everything I certainly say keep at it.

Perhaps you weren't noticed when they ran in front of you. I really think better indicators are needed.

I think by now it should be clear that Homer is just trolling, or just completly stupid.
Therefore, i suggest we let this thread, and all other of homers threads, die.

Really? When FF is a big issue I see all the time in the game, it adds nothing, why do you think most games turn it off?
Vehicles being tougher against geometry is a bad idea? They're like giant barrels of Petrol with the whole world being one big spark...... sorry but an aircraft like this wouldn't explode from the slightest touch and with their tech I'd think they would have sorted that issue by now.

thing is this would just make it so tanks would just rush forward through there infantry as well as cause them to hide behind tanks and shoot through them using it like sort of a moveable bunker.

Leave all FF on except friendly vehicles VS friendly ground troops. Or at least nerf the hell out of friendly vehicles VS friendly ground troops. Its insane for someone to lose all their health when something idles into them.

FF is a must to have in PS2, I watched them rip friendly fire out of the battlefield franchise which played it's part effectively dumbing down the game resulting in players spraing and praying and requiring no thought/skill while in a fire fight.
Yea, it sucks when someone runs in front of you and they can do something aboutspawning vehicles the same place everryone is running in and out of in a base, bet really it forces you to keep your wits about you and not be careless. (like my typing in this post)
Again FF is a must....

^ My only thought on this, is it in the best interest of a F2P FPS to put restrictions on being able to play the game? Seems to me it would just turn away customers.

remove FF..
Now I'm sure I know I shouldn't click on any of your threads. Friendly Fire has been talked to death, and if you seriously don't understand why we need it you need to go back to {Insert Mainstream FPS here}

I've been weapon locked numerous times, each as a result of other people crossing my LOF for no other reason then to get that all important kill.
That said if you got rid of friendly fire think of the implications that would have on doorway defending. It's a mechanic that needs to remain in game to prevent stupidity.

The problem is not normal, weapons-based friendly fire, the problem in the game is so much as a tap to an idiot who runs in front of your tank results in you being penalized.
I propose that the guy who runs into a tank and dies is awarded some, if not as many, grief points as the tank driver. If you were to run into a busy street like an idiot and got run over, the cops would tell you it was your own damn fault. I believe this is the only way to force not just tankers to watch out but idiot infantry too.

48 Cert points: MagBumper. Replace those tacky rear-firing jets with inflatable pool noodles along the business end of your ride.

You are onto something here...cert to cover your tank with rubber duckies to prevent damaging friendlies.

It takes an act of god to run over the opposition. But a simple bump will do for friendlies.

I think FF has its place but you get these kill hungry noobs that love to get point blank range on the target. So those of use utilizing cover eat the FF points. I can control my fire but I can't control stupid.
