I was telling somebody all about PlanetSide yesterday and I mentioned to him the beta accounts of the Terran Republic stationing three of their MAXes with heavy gatling guns at the doorway to the Control Console room in a base in order to prevent access, and he asked me "...so how do you beat that?" I came up with a couple possible ways, but I thought it might make for a good discussion.
Let's say you are the commander of a squad who has to get into that control room. The three MAXes have been instantly mowing down just about anyone who comes around the corner. What do you do?

That was me and the team that I was on, what you didn't see was the two med armor guys with chainguns that were in the gaps of our tr max's, and the 2 healing units to make sure our armor stayed up and the couple of stealthers that were waiting in the cap room Now, we did dominate for a bit, but how we went down is that someone did come with some plasmas, and one of our maxes broke the line, then some vs hevs came in and took out one of our healers before we took them down. So over time we were slowly widdled down till we were taken out from the hallway..so in my next plan I am going to get a squad of 10 max's and create a outfit with backup for them...so any TR that is interested and gets in game soon, look for my name and let me know And then all the NC and VS should run.....run as far away as you can Looking forward to seeing you guys in game soon.

There are a number of viable counter options to three AI MAX units sitting in a control room like that.
1) Grenades. As you have extensively pointed out. They're your friends. Don't leave home without them. Thumper is good too.
2) Any AV MAX. Get one or two of those and you should do some terrible damage to their "wall of lead" MAXs that are planted like that.
3) Under cover of any attack, try to get a combat engineer close enough to the anchored TR MAX line to plant a boomer. Even if he dies immediately after detonating the boomer, he will do savage damage to the MAX units and they'll be easy to kill thereafter.
4) That particular trick (stacking anchored TR MAX units in a line) only works in cul-de-sac situations. If you can get behind the anchored line, at any time, you can do nasty things to them while they unanchor and slowly turn around.
5) The Decimator is very powerful against vehicles and MAX units. Yes, they can be wildly innaccurate if you launch while running, but pop out behind a corner, launch one and pop back. At that close quarters, you won't miss, and you'll hurt the MAX units...badly.
Seriously, there's always ways around things. Even a concerted, but constant, suicide charge into the MAX units would eventually do enough damage to overwhelm them.
The trick is to not give them time gaps enough to repair their armor.
Hope this helps. We don't know of any "magic bullet" scenarios within PlanetSide. Every tactic so far has a counter-tactic. All of them. You may have to coordinate with others a bit to make it happen, but there's a way out of every situation for those willing to think a bit.
