will ps work on a linux system, will they make a version for it, or will they simply just not make it for a linux system?

Wouldn't that be convenient now. ;)
You could run your packet-sniffer on the same box as the game!
But it won't happen. 3D operations are pretty slow when they're run by an emulator -- and remember. This is written in directX, not OpenGL, so there's no chance of Wine being able to run this game.
Well, at least not playably.

You can have packets sniffers running on your Doze box...
But anyway id rather have my sniffer running on a seperate box not eating my resources and so I can see the seperate screen :bouncy:
But then, i wouldnt be running a sniffer at all! mr_luc u been a very naughty boy!

www.transgaming.com
only problem with the transgaming crew is they are a little slow on adding game support but when they do add support it's normally top notch.
i use winex to play wc3 on my redhat8 machine and it's nearly flawless.
Hmm... I am sure SOE guys will find a way for the linux people to play, probably but for an extra $50, but hey it's all about making money these days right... err right... ???

The thing is, most "linux people" tend to be computer-savvy enough to either A) have more than one system, one of which has Windows on it, B) have windows installed on another partition of their existing system, or C) some other way of getting Planetside to run without requiring a Linux version.

well there's a lot of "linux people" that while very technically savy are also very anti microsoft .. and make it a point to be ms free on all of their systems. that often includes no windows partition. i think it's going a bit overboard but whatever heh :)

I definitely do not suggest trying to run emulation with Planetside. PS takes enough resources as it is w/o emulation

i'll at least try to run in it winex, but since i have a dual boot system it will run in windows nearly exclusively.
Plain and simple, there's no money in the Linux gaming market.
Need proof? Look at Loki. All they did was ports, not full development, and they folded.
Windows is the gamer platform whether you like it or not.
"wah, I hate microsoft" isn't going to get games on to Linux. Until you have more than Mac's market share on the desktop world, you won't be seeing many games for Linux.

you'll find that most linux people don't give a damn about gaming tho. they are primarily developers and sys admins. they are also a lot of open source preachers which abhor paying money for good source code...that believe that all code should be free. i pretty much only play wc3 and half life both of which run on winex. you're right of course, there is little money to be made by porting to linux, tho most of the time the ports really aren't that difficult to do.
as an aside .. even tho i'm a very vocal linux proponent i do not think that it will surpass windows for the desktop market, but then again most of the distros aren't marketing to the desktop user. linux bread and butter is in the server and corporate share where it is doing very well at.

And from my experiences the stability on Linux based servers is a lot better than those run on anything Microsoft sets up. Ping times are much better as well.

well thanks for this information, even though i dont have a linux my dad does at his office and i usually get stuck over there for long amounts of time so playing PS on that would ease the pain, but now i have to get someone else to lend me his computer for an hour or two.
