From the time I started following the Planetside community here I though i saw and in-depth project, with our suggestions being considered and weighed in, and responded too in the forums here. The Beta was doing things right. Constant patching and character wipes, and great response to feedback. At that pace I believed we'd have an incredible release by Christmas 2013, but instead the game will be release without any optimization of frame rate, and Only two unpolished continents. This game was supposed to be the God-killer true, and incredible war, and I was shaping up to be with time. Now I see almost no hope for that dream. For all those who agree with me PM email Facebook, and twitter the hell out of these misguided bastard we all love and delay the launch. Don't let these Dev's get off with better than the other guys.
Update 10/252012
I talked with T-ray today about the optimization issues. He says that they are still working on it,and mentioned the 5 year plan. It seems like were just going to have to wait for incremental updates to better the game instead of the release they had originally planned. SOE has them by the balls, but they're still struggling

Well, Smed did say when release date was 1st announced that they would not release the game until it was ready. Even though the Alpha Squad package stated a release date, Smed said it didn't matter about the release date listed. If the game wasn't ready by then then they weren't going to release it. He stated it was there to satisfy the lawyers.

Honestly? I'm really impressed with what they've done so far, especially after I remember the state of this game as recently as August.

I wish I'd have saved them. They were Tweets. I did a little searching but nada. Let me search a bit more. Is there an easy way to search Twitter for stuff like that?

They're releasing due to financial pressure. Don't be so shortsighted.

There are already so many threads about this that I'm sure we're close to drowning in them.
Short answer, man: They're going to release it when they say they will, whether or not we like it. Might as well wait and see how it goes and stop whining about it every five minutes.

i thought they would release an open beta, but i guess not. it should have been open beta, because it might just end up being an open beta that is out of beta. from what i have heard, (and seen from my low-end PC), the game is not optimised fully yet. also, apparently there is a bit of weapon imbalance, and something about not as much teamwork as the original PS, or something about the bases being too easy to capture.
too many problems, too little time. from what i have heard, SOE always rushes releases, but this is not me speaking.
they just better do something drastic and fix the problems though. but we are getting another map though :D

Literally every set date for this game has been pushed back weeks (or even months if you count the gap between PC Gamer keys in the mag and actually being able to use them)
What makes you think release will be any different?

Well I think PS2 is in a better state than Medal of Honor which released yesterday. They had a 1.7 gig patch on day one to fix bugs. Willing to bet there's even more.
So yeah PS2 should at least be better then that.

yeah i have hope, especially after the changes since august. If they focus on just bugs/optimization this will easily be a shipable game by due date. Then every week just add in the meta game components. But seriously folks its a F2P title it will constantly be updated because that is the only way to make money remember even the most polished game f2p games (LoL, CS pre 1.3, Dwarf fortress) started out rougher then our current beta and then blew up. So i easily have hope for this one doing great.

Here it is:
Step 1) Smed/Higby: Hey, investors/company/potential players! We can make this work, we promise!
Step 2) Beta release is delayed over and over after needless smedley-fueled speculative dates, draining hype/interest in the game to next nothing. Fearing community mutiny, beta is released in a severely broken state.
Step 3) Various players who stuck around to see it dislike PS2 and abandon ship upon seeing what an empty, incentiveless mess it is.
Step 3) Alpha Squad generates working capital at the expense of dignity, preying on those who built 10 years of e-peen and rep in planetside 1, a more ambitious and unique experience in its time.
Step 4) PlanetSide 2, for some reason unbeknownst to those using logic, announces a release date that is both too early and on the heels of behemoths Halo and Black Ops - games even F2P junkies are statisticaly likely to buy.
Step 5) Having no one left to stay and pretend that PS2 is good - or even acceptable the way it is - and with no random people for the 3 or 4 PS2 guilds to prey on, bad game dies.
Step 6) PS2 becomes the new SWG zinger thrown at Smedley Q & A sessions, and he tells haters everything they've learned from PS2 to make Everquest 8.5 great.
Unfortunately, kids, the game just suffers from the jack of all trades proverb. It's sub-par as a shooter, sub-par as an mmo, and sub-par as a map-driven strategy game. Unfortunaly, PS2 does not amount to more than the sum of its parts. It's simply the average of them. Meh+crap+nah\boring=Suck.
I hyped this game soo hard. I keep checking in from patch to patch to see if it becomes a rewarding experience for anyone that doesn't hang 10 years of gaming reputation in Planetside - and it doesn't. Anyone who isn't either completely married to the concept of planetside or willing to sacrifice valuable time to nuthug mouthbreathing guild leaders in forums will NOT enjoy or play this game. Sorry kids, it's just not any fucking good lol. I hate to keep posting here but the fact that this game could have been so awesome and had such a hardcore community has let me down about it big time.

I happen to recall saying all this time that the combat would be rather poor.

The infantry combat is poor, just people warping and lagging infront of your gun and you keep having FF warnings.... just turn FF off.

I'm actually having fun, considering I've accepted it for what it is.
Personally I think this game is confused. Planetside 1 was unique, and at the same time awesome. The devs obviously thought it was a failure because not many people continued to play, but I honestly feel like that had more to do with the subscription model than any major, initial game shortcomings.
The devs, in their desperation, just made things worse as time went on.
I also think that had the original planetside been FTP or didn't have a subscription, it would have been much more successful with the average joe gamer.
Which means that planetside 2 could have also been a success had it kept some of the unique features that made planetside 1 so unique and fun.
It's admirable to think planetside 2 can be made successful if they "copied" gameplay from other, successful franchises, but come on, those games are long in the tooth and boring after a short while. The unique depth of character and game environment is what made planetside so different and great. Had they simply followed that model in a free to play environment, I think many people, not originally keen to planetside nor had the means to sustain a subscription, would have fallen for this game like many of us did ten years ago.

That release date does seem a bit soon.
The foundation is still promising, but i I see is big problems on the road considering the lack of optimisation makes the game a resource-hog on the average pc, there is also a lot of balance and fundemental problems holding the game down (poor population balance, "winning" empires snowballing resources while the defensive faction gets to suffer "Tank vs trooper" spawn-door-camping.)
I am worried.

Even if launch isn't very successful, they can change just about anything. We'll always be here to give them ideas.

Then reduce friendly damage or do SOMETHING to make this games close quarters shooting fun. Add a ping limit to the server too so I don't have to see people warping about everywhere like mad.
This game will no way be ready for November 20th, I have no idea what SOE are doing now, I really thought they were on the ball this time. However less than a month and it's all mostly broken, I mean animations are sound design on weapons aren't even done... half of them aren't even in the game! The meta game is borked, it isn't fun and yet there is no fix in sight.
All that will happen is they launch, people will think it's shit and the game wont recover. I cannot get any of my friends to play the game right now, they just hate the meta game, find it boring that there is too much downtime between battles.

How you keep projecting this opinion on the rest of us is a never ending source of amusement to me. Why you're still here is more of a mystery.

Today's patch notes... I guess no one read them.
o Grief accumulation has been reduced for accidental team damage.
o Grief points are no longer accumulated for damaging a fellow member or their vehicle. An outstanding issue is killing that player will result in grief points.
Anyway, the game is playable and can be made ship ready by their launch date. Will it be perfect? Hell no. Anyone that seriously thought "we will release it when it's ready" was the truth obviously hasn't been around the game market long. That is fancy spin for saying "we will release it when the funds dry up and we need revenue to continue making it the game we promised." Even console games have gone this route lately.
Also more patch notes that at least made me happy.
Weapons:
o Reduced bullet drop on all weapons.
o Buffed VS weapons to be much stronger at greater range. Projectile speed and Damage were increased on all weapons except sniper rifles.
o Projectile speed was increased.
o Damage at range was increased.
o Reload times on most VS weapons are now faster.
o Grenade trajectory is now more predictable.
It's F2P. This time that is a good thing. That means you literally don't have to pay anything to continue with the live beta unlike many other MMOs that force you to buy the game for $60, give you 1 month free, but charge you for another 11 months until the game is actually release ready.

This.
It's months away IMO.
But I don't think its a case of one chance to pull a crowd and then forgetaboutit if its sub-par. It's going on Steam remember under the F2P tab. The player base will dip back in to see how things are going. Don't act like you won't!
Cash is king and SOE want/ need to get paid.
I'm thinking now though that the CGI trailer was a big fucking waste of money.
