GTX 260 is not enough to run Planetside 2 even on medium. I know with my current setup a GTX 560TI works well. I figured I can probably get a new card that requires less power than my current card, but has much better performance.

This thread I posted details the on how I figured out GTX 560TI is enough.

What to buy when trying to get "bang for your buck" card? I am not one to buy a card just because it is the fastest.

I am guessing it will be between GTX 660, GTX 660TI, 7850 or 7870. Seems to me "bang for the buck" will be the GTX 660 or 7850. I will be purchasing by Black Friday. I know power supply is enough as these new cards will all consume less power than my current card.

I want to run on High Settings @ 1680x1050
Current Rig:
i5-2400 (3.1GHz)
8GB Ram
256GB SSD

Any personal experience you have with these cards and PS2 is appreciated.

Also I have never shopped for PC parts on Black Friday, anyone ever get a great deal on a video card then?

GTX 660 and HD7850 are both very good value cards, not much between them.
You should be able to pick up a 7870 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150605)for about the same as a 660.

If you are playing mostly Planetside 2 then i think things start edging towards nvidia due to the fact nvidia has paid off SOE (TWIPTBP). We know the devs have Nvidia cards in their workstations and that the game uses physX.

The 7850 might start having an edge if you were running a higher resolution due to its higher memory bandwidth and you were going to overclock (which the 660 will do out of the box with 'boost'). the 7850 should be ~$30 less than a 660 too.

If you can afford it, this is the card to get. It's literally right behind the fastest cards on the market today... for 1/2 the price.

The GTX 650 and 660 TI give you more bang for your buck than the 660 IMO. The 7850 is a VERY good deal, the 7870... not as much, especially for PS2 which tends to favor Nvidia hardware.

If this only for PS2 a 660 Ti is probably your best bet. Normally when I see video card deals (better than average) its normally the week after BF. I never saw a video card deal on BF that made me go OMG I WANT THIS.

If you see a good deal on any of those cards that is a deep discount I go with any of them. All will give you a good experience in game.

I am not a nVidia person but is has been my card of choice since 3DFX. I also play a lot of games, but PS2 is the only game currently that really sucks with my video card. BF3 & GW2 just to name some recent games all perform fine.

I will keep it at $300 or under, cause lets face it for just one monitor anything above that is overkill. That being said I do like the idea of staying closer to $200 for similar performance.

I just wanted to bounce it off others who actually play this game. Sounds like with the nVidia bias the 660 or 660TI will be the way to go.

That 7950 is somewhat tempting at that price.

Yeah I'm a moron. I forgot the recent 7950 deal for $270 after MIR with Hitman, Far Cry 3, and Sleeping Dogs. There is a coupon with 20% off the new MoH too. That beats anything if you want a $300ish card.

^^

Once you overclock it, it'll match a GTX 680 for 1/2 the price.

It's probably overkill, but it's also a good deal.

I love mine. No complaints. It is stable at 1150 MHz on the core anyway. Not OCed at the moment due to performance being good in most of the games I play currently.

I'm a big fan of the GTX 670, which rivals the GTX 590 in terms of performance.

GTX 660 is great too, it beats the GTX 580 by a strong margin.
