Ps1 is still there, the devs have said they wont shut it down. So if anyone prefers to play it rather than ps2, theres nothing stopping them.

Yes, logistics and giving fighting over bases some meaning is what killed PS1.

Not the piss poor management, netcode, performance, hacking, balance, etc.

maybe they;re using closed beta to acctually test a game for once and not as some marketing ploy? i dont see it as a bad thing.

I suspect that, post-launch, PlanetSide 2 will be open beta in name only, as Higby said they plan to never stop adding to the game's content...

What I don't want to find is that they've rushed the hotfixes like they did during SOE Live, all so that they can promise releasing it for November 20th. Most players will understand if there's a slight delay; the important thing is that the game is stable, or nobody will be particularly happy.

I believe PS2 is really getting there, but they definitely need to nail a few major issues according to base capturing an defending. And some annoying bugs really need to be fixed without creating new bugs.

My biggest concert is the Cert tree, which feels kinda limited, incomplete and some stuff is way to easy to get for a game that wants to stay interesting over 2, 3, 4, 5 years (of course I understand they can and will add changes, fixes, and maps).

Also the fireteam?/squad/platoon/outfit options are too minimal for large outfits. Must say, I am very very glad with creating the squads for outfit only. But the Outfit tags are to minimal. We as TAW.net run 4 different outfits (NA:TR, EU:TR, EU:VS, OC:VS) so, now i am forced to use outfit tags tags like: TAW, TAVV, TAUU, TAWE, etc. Realllly limited..

I'm not sure there's much you can do about it, as it's likely not a mistake. If someone else plopped down the $40 and got to it first, they have just as much claim on the name as you do as far as SOE is concerned. The other guy was probably just as pissed when he got to the PS2 forum signups and saw that "mutant" was taken. Sorry dude. :(

Not sure why you cant just check out accounts. All PS1 vets have had the same names now for a decade. New Alpha squad players should be first com, AFTER vets.

I've reserved my name correctly the first time, but to do it twice, no spelling errors, no accidentally hitting enter on the third letter, what they ask is madness.

It worked for a while, about 7min after Smedley tweeted about the reservation being open.
"Shenyen" was taken, so i was able to sucessfully (hooray *clap* *clap*) register my fallback name - "Neyesh".

If that name is now really mine - i have no idea, when i return to planetside2.com/reserve-name - there's still a prompt to enter a character name.

If it had been coded better, the page should instead display "You have already chosen a character name" or something like that, grmpf.


EDIT: Well, they are working on it and Smedley apologizes, that those not using Twitter were at a disadvantage - So i'd guess that saying they will AGAIN reset the database seems like a safe bet.

The only people chomping at the bit to get their names reserved are fully aware of everything that is going on. Anyone who bought it that isn't a vet or as invested as most of us are never even know the form opened.

Either way this was a pretty epic failure. As long as they get it working by the 20th they are good.. but let's hope the form WORKS on Wednesday. Also, I doubt it's as simple as adding a name in a db.

Also if you use the wrong case (ie: hAmma instead of Hamma) it won't matter on the 20th you will be able to pick the correct case. This is via SOE CS.
