I noticed 1-2 patches ago they removed the g-ams slot entirely from the galaxy. Is there any chance they will add it again in the final game? Because right now the galaxy is pretty useless, once you die on the battlefield your gal is lost, most likely. I liked it back then when you could land near a enbattled base behind a rock and start supply your team. Now I dont see the reason why would you chose the gal over the sunderer. In the PS2 wiki its still listed on the gal that you can upgrad it for the g-ams.
sorry for my bad english i am still learing. please correct me if you want.
I dont think a return of the g-ams would be a good idea. Maybe it would be nice to have a ams function for squad only.
But i think there are loads of other functions that may fit the gal. E.g.:
- vehicle transport
- deployment to a turret
- radar station
- vehicle repair/ammo
-etc.

At the moment, the Galaxy is pretty much a one-way, single-use taxi. In theory it can do multiple runs, but with the current AA prevalence I don't see it surviving past a single trip. It doesn't have anything going for it except its speed and manouverability. The Sunderer, while slower and hampered by natural obstacles, is by far the superior choice.
I do think they were planning on adding more functionality to the Galaxy, which I think is sorely needed. Some better stuff to support a squad would be a welcome (re)addition to the Galaxy. :) I think they were planning on a squad-only AMS (much like the spawn beacon) as well as improved dropping mechanics. I'll be looking forward to these additions, because Galaxy drops are, in theory, much flashier and more spectacular than Sunderers! :p

If they lowered or removed the transport capabilty of the Sunderer when it had the spawning capacity then you would see a lot more of Galaxy.

Hell, that was my argument for both AMS types... (http://www.planetside-universe.com/showthread.php?t=47822)

I asked about this quite a bit when I was with the team and whether or not it will come back is questionable.
Check out my interview with Higby near the end.

I would like to see it return. The thing that sucked about it before was that there was no alternative for mobile spawn and the Galaxy was not well suited for many situations. Now that there is the S-AMS I think the G-AMS should be able to make a return. All the upper areas of Tech Plants are usless now without them and those were some fun fights.
Make it a high cert cost as well as resource cost and implement the same radius restrictions as the Sundy and it would be good to go.

I actually thought the old way of Galaxy as the AMS was better for the game. It was less spammy, and gave the ESF's a real purpose in the war since if you could intercept an stop Galaxies the enemies ground forces would not be able to zerg as hard. It was about the only remaining ability to hurt the enemy on a logistical level there was left in the game. But it's clear they want none of that since they gave the functionality to the Sunderer, and now allow you to pull it at every vehicle terminal. They want it to be super zergy deathmatch no logistics type of game. And the Galaxy doesn't have much purpose in that anymore.
It's now almost exclusively used by Outfits to just drop on a tower or to suicide ram into a Sunderer that were not able to take out in other ways. They talked of allowing squad spawning even in the air for it. That still wont give it a widely used purpose. Vehicle transporting might make it a tad more useful to the masses. But even then what of significant value do we have to transport? Sunderers which is now the AMS can be pulled everywhere.

I think I remember Higby say that it would make a return

It's better to have sunderers as spawn points - with galaxies it was way worse. Even if it was deep in cert tree, it would simply mean the problem would arise later than earlier.
I would love to see Galaxies to have the possibility to carry lightning tanks and/or be a mobile resupply station for vehicles - no auto repair, a simple ammo resupply on the field.
If AA is still as bad, I could see a shield being added - not a passive one, but one with CD and activated manually for some time (like heavy class ability). So if you start getting smacked by AA, you can buy yourself some time to get away or land somewhere behind a hill.

as there are bases now in the new continent that are only accessible from the air i can see gals being more used. i liked using the gal as a spawn point but i think the sundy makes it more fun for ground combat. lets hope they sort all thi out so they can be used together for really big attacks and troop insertions.
