Almost have enough saved up. Should I even bother with it in the short time left in beta or just splurge on other stuff for curiousity's sake.
I keep hearing it's bad and sucks compared to the general shotgun. I've been itching to see how they perform, but I haven't seen one used yet.
Can anyone who actually recently used it chime in?

Well I do not like it. At first it was allright but then it recieved a minor nerf. ( It needed a nerf ).
But my issue with it now is, that I cant hit anything. I have a easier time killing people with a sniperrifle/hipshot than I do with the jackhammer.
But then again its properly just me, cause I had the same issue in PS1 - The jackhammer never did the job for me :)

What's the effective range? I know it says short, but can anyone describe it?
One thing that worries me with the shotgun in this game compared to ps1 is the fast ttk. With the ps1 jackhammer--coupled with a light suit and low overall TTK--you could feasibly close the distance and kill people if caught in the open.
I'm not sure how feasible it would be here, which would make the shotgun extremely situational, way more so than ps1.

What they need to do is make it like the max in ps1 and add a secondary mode for further range that condenses the cone of fire and makes it do less damage but give you the ability to shoot at further ranges as well. So that way you can still use it outdoors. This should be a must for the shotguns in the game, well at least for the jackhammer since its an iconical weapon and that way ppl will still use it just as much as they did in the original game. Plus ps2 has much further engagement ranges so it only makes sense.

No other comments? Not many people bother saving up for it?
Wtf, 200 certs are gone. Well, there goes that idea, lol.

Waste of cert points, you'll get the same satisfaction from the roll back gobbling your saved certs.

Lol, that sucks. But I'm so damn curious. I'll probably get it anyways if they give us 1000 certs points like they said

It sucks, the normal shotgun is better. I have the JH (got it the same day it came out) it's a poor excuse for a HA weapon with pisspoor range and rate of fire.
Spend you certs on rocket pods and join all the cool kids.

Okay, this thing is pretty bad. I just had to see for myself.
The damage drop off at range is horrible, especially compared to the MCG. It's no contest at all, period. Just tested it.
The MCG is absolutely wicked by comparison, at all ranges.
Reload time is atrocious, too.

You can't compare the range of a shotgun to the range of a chain gun. All Heavy Assault weapons are situational and empire specific. Each one is used a bit different, depending on the situation, due to the empire specific traits they have.
Balance is kind of tough with HA in Planetside.

Even at a range within a medium size room, it's pretty pathetic, rof is slow too, seems slower than the base shotgun to me.

Lol, the lasher sucks, too.
MCG is pure win, fun too.
Edit: lasher sucks.
THE JH is terrible ATM, waste of certs if you ask me. i never use it.
it needs balancing....

Okay, confirmed. There is a delay in the rof compared to the standard shotgun. It's actually significant.
This has to be removed IMO, along with other changes such as default 10 round clip (to further differentiate it from the "stock" shotgun), infinite range, but a large damage drop off and faster reload speed.
