Hello again everybody, this is just an idea i had in my head and i wanted to get some input back from my peers. Alright I was thinking about Planetside and the oncoming NCAN( Norwegian Cyborg Alien Ninjas) invasion and a thought popped into my head, faction-based super weapons( i.e weapons of mass destruction). What I'm proposing, and i totally dont know whether or not this would ever work, but each faction after say taking control of a continent, can construct a WOMD facility. After the long construction process and the longer charge up period the weapon could be fired upon enemy positions on other continents. Tracking and mapping ability to guide the weapons could be pushed into a cert of some sort, keep in mind this is all still a fresh idea. Possible WOMD that i have thrown around are deffinetly some massive "Ion Cannon" or large beam weapon for the Vanu that could be fired and last for a small amount of time inflicting massive damage, other possibilites say for the Terran Republic a Fusion Missle launch, a larger nuclear-like explosion.
Just thought i'd get some opinions on something I have been thinking about.
Thanks guys,
-The President:cool:

This has been discussed before, but most people are against it, simply because it is too cheap. The devs want people to win because of tactics and teamwork, not superweapons.

Yeah, like a lot of things, it sounds interesting as a feature, but it would suck in practice.
There's a reason really large area-of-effect weapons are missing from Planetside. :)

Yeah i concur, An aspect of PS i like is it is brought home to the soldiers level. With the introduction of massive weaponry that aspect could be lost along the way. Thanks for responding guys.

Haha, I still think WOMD's would be awesome, but as they stated there are problems with it, I still think it would be killer to be flying around in my mosquito and seeing a mushroom cloud rise up in the distance.

Arg, this reminds me of the C&C weapons. Ion cannon, nukes, cluster bombs....god I hated them all.
There was no option to turn them off, you had to turn the tech level down then lose all of the powerful units.
WomDs suck, they should -Never- be used in ANY multiplayer game.

well.. how about the ability to kick a player in the nuts, thus rendering him disabled for a short period of time? it could be like a special implant or cert. :D
theres your fresh idea damnit!! now Implement it!!!

Haha, I'd agree to that, by the way i like the pic, secondly by "fresh ideas" i meant that I personally hadn't given them much thought and it was an idea that i recently began to look at, not that implemementing womd into the game would be a fresh idea, as it is not. Womd have popped up before in many games, thereby rendering them old-school for lack of a better word. I believe there isn't a place for womd's in PS but it was still interesting to hear what others had to say about it.
Peace

f any WOMD were included, i'd say orbital deployment weapons....
the NC gets precision strike missles from space, like a precision guided bomb but better.
The TR gets a tactical neutron bomb that does little physical damage but releases a lethal neutron cloud that hurts/kills all living matter in the blast radius. immediately after the strike, troops can cross in relative safety.
VS would get some kind of orbital superlaser, Ala Ion Cannon in CnC: Renegade.
now, of course, in the event these were introduced, space combat would become nessisary to prevent use of such weapons by destroying their launch platform. furthermore, you'd have to plant a GPS device to accurately hit targets in the area of intended attack. these units would broadcast a signal and it would take approximately 10-15 minutes to line up a strike, and would be visible on radar with a waypoint, and easily disarmed with a REK (under 10 seconds to disarm, but the timer always stops on '00:01' :) ) so you'd have to be either stupid to not find it or the enemy has a huge presence at the site.

Yeah, we've stabbed, beaten and trampled this horse to death. There was a resounding no to WMDs, Artillary, bombers, chemical/biological weapons and any long-range conventional missles. Basis was (As stated) that it's far too difficult to make artillary powerful yet limited, but not overpowering. The devs also said they would not add any long-range non-man portable artillary in the game. Wouldn't hold my breath for mortars or long range grenade launchers either.
The question we ask is, how would you feel if you logged in, spawned, Pulled up a vehicle from the gradge, drove outside, and got irradiated/detonated/melted/terminally poisoned/carpet bombed with no change to survive?
On the positive side, if you are driving or gunning for a tank, you can use that for fairly long ranges, but you'd need a forward spotter to manually tell you if shots were going long, short, or wide.

Super-weapons would suck. They'd add absolutely nothing to the game, and only piss people off.
