Water without ships... why why!? they fill the land with wheels, the air with wings, but the water lays for a graveyard of crashed pilots? Where is the hightech speed boats.. come on now... water is used in war...

yes, water is used in war as a tactical deterrent. and someone mentioned an anphibious ability on a vehcile somewhere, but im not sure its real.

The devs have said that this may be in an expansion.

well ya they dont aid in caping a base no but they hold the land outside the base, could have a viechle manufacturing platform on it, could have a respawn and lil boats to go ashore, that water mass could be located next to that base and having that water under your control would aid in the attack. would make it harder for them to take out your respawn giving you the advantage. would also make good for just a forward spawn even if it wasnt being used in an assault OK!

I'd rather use warpgates than travel across water. Naval battles would be cool but what use would they be? There are no water bases. I don't think a navy would be cool (yet). I think BF1942 is so unrealistic in this manner (I.E. one whole freakin person can run a destroyer, right)

thats all very nice but would said "boats" have a margarita maker on board? that, my friends is the question of the day...
I'm not attacking anybody 'till I get tanked without even realizing it.

what im saying is that ship would operate as a water base. does a naval ship not have a crew? It would be more secure then a land base because it would be off the land making viechles *land ones* almost unable to use against it. So if you had some pilots patroling it would make for a good safe point.

I've always wondered about oilrig-ish naval bases. They could function as air and naval centers.

Kali

exactly.. water is a tool. PS should not disgard it.

Water vehicles would be awsome! You could add little oil platform type things out in the water, or mabe large battleships that you would have to protect from getting capped. You know, like a large aircraft carrier used as an air base, or a troop transport (kinda Normandy style or something) to transport large amounts of troops and vehicles. That way their would be a benifet to using naval combat =) Just a little wish list that will never come true =)

originally the ps programers said that water was just space that they were leaving blank to add extra stuff onto later in the game. then everyone started bitchin about no boats (along with bombers) then the ps staff said they would take that bitchin into consideration. however, one of the story lines created for ps explains why there are no boats... remember, everythings powered by the warp gates, thats why u can fly across the water to another island, u run outa juice.

The Sunderer (Could be wrong, whichever is the humvee-like lighter APC) is amphibious.

MilitantB0B
2003-03-26, 06:31 PM
Yeah, they could always claim the boats didn't fit the story line. No reason to not have bombers though :)

where'd u hear the thing about the transport being amphibious?!?!

I remember that from a while back. Someone said that there was some ground vehicle that could drive over the top of water. :o

I remember someone saying that too, but I think they said that they thought they heard a dev say it. So I don't know, and we will have to ask Hamma.

Hamma?

In a magazine article for PS, they spoke of a Vanu tank as being amphibious, I was told they did away with all vehicles that can travel on water or float above water. Is this true?

I think the devs just didn't want to focus on making boats since a smaller percentage of the game is happening on the coasts than on the inland bases. To me it would make sense for them to focus on parts of the game that can be used anywhere anytime, not just when the attack is at a base near water.

Don't get me wrong, I think it would be very cool to have boats, but I'd prefer they invest that developing energy into stuff that can be used more.

Another issue, is I don't think they want locked down continents to have vehicle access. If boats could travel from continent to continent, just a few transport ships could unload a much stronger force than just with HART drops, making a lockdown not as special.

Vanu Tanks can briefly hover over water. That's it. Other tanks slow down a little when going over a puddle or something.
The reason they don't have boats is because each continent is loaded seperately. They aren't interconnected.
The reason they don't have bombers is because long-range attacks are unfair. The Reaver is the closest thing to a bomber.

EarlyDawn

Yeah, Vanu tanks can probably hover for a few moments, then sink like the rest.

I am positive I heard that the lighter APC is anphibious. I'm not sure if it's still anphib, but it defenitly was at one time.

What magizine said Vanu can go over water? I heard that same false information reported from others and I want to see the source that has it wrong.

from the preveiw on the front of pcgamer:

the thresser's anti-grav pods replace wheels. this allows it to easily cross water or rough terrain during combat.

There's a beach facing an island to the south of Forassil, looks like it has some kind of fortifications on it from the satelite map. Could be interesting, assuming there's something worth capturing and not just circumvent it. We could have Sunderers swimming across from the island and laying siege to the beach while firing the turrets at the fortified defenders... :drools:

EarlyDawn

Ah. Well, from everything I've heard, that's incorrect. It can probably cross larger bodies then normal vehicles, but it's definitly not an aquatic hovercraft.

if any Destroyers are made later on, they should be main base only. Then also have boats that can transport ground vehicles to land. Then just attack boats. But then also if they add boats they must add a new continent with minimal land so its half and half.
