View Full Version : VS sniping = easy mode?

Yesterday I turned traitor and tried out the VS default sniper rifle ... wtf, this thing has zero ballistic drop!

I found this rifle extremely easy to use at long range, as the bullet goes exactly where you aim it. And compared to the NC bolt action rifle, it is very fast firing.

I'm assuming that there are some downsides to the rifle; I certainly hope so. If not, then this really is sniping easy mode.

Are there any down sides to this rifle?
Is the projectile speed slower? I didn't think so.
Is it a guaranteed one headshot kill?
And if so, against which classes?
Is there damage drop off with range?

Edit - I'll post a video of my gameplay with this rifle to demonstrate how easy it is to use. And bear in mind that I am NOT a habitual sniper; didn't take to it at all in COD/BF.

That rifle cannot one head shot kill. It takes atleast a head shot and a body shot to take a a full health target down. It has by far the worst damage drop off due to its ability to fire without any bullet drop. At longer ranges it can take 4 shots to kill a target and by atleast the second shot, if they're not retarded, they'll get out of the way. It is effective at medium range assuming you do the head shot + body shot combo quickly enough.

The second VS sniper that is available for certs is nearly the same as the Bolt Driver. It can one shot and has bullet drop. I prefer bolt action rifles over the scout rifles.

The downside of all VS weapons is damage loss at distance. It's a part of their energy weapon playstyle. Little recoil, no bullet drop, less damage at distance.

In short on playstyles.
TR piss lead (high fire rates at the cost of damage and aim)
VS go pew pew (stated above)
NC break collar bones (High damage but with low fire rate and high recoil)

The VS bolt action also has to de-scope, as you put it. There is also obvious bullet drop on it. I realize you are talking about the default one but I haven't used it in awhile.

Yaeh I'm talking BS about not needing to de-scope. OP edited.

I haven't noticed any bullet drop though, even at long range.

Thanks for all the replies. As I said, I'm not a habitual sniper, so excuse my ignorance.

I'm also trying out the TR sniper rifle; will see how I get on with that.

I was killed multiple times with 1 shot from a VS sniperrifle.

Canyou be sure that it was the default VS rifle that we are talking about here?

I was recently oneshotted by a TR sniper, but have no idea what gun they were using.

There is a "bolt action" version of a VS sniper rifle that costs certs and is called XM98 which can one shot. The default sniper rifle is the Spectre which is the scout rifle, but it can only one shot an already hurt player if they get a head shot.

I'll have to give this one a try.

I prefer sniper rifles like the NC Bolt Driver for more "sneaky" work, where you are stalking your foes in the hills, and only get one chance to take them down, but the VS rifle really comes into it's own when you are engaged in a more ferocious battle; a much bigger chance that you can finish off an already wounded foe, or that, if you tag them with a body shot, they will get finished by your squad mates.

Edit:
After trying out the default VS and TR (ugh) sniper rifles, I've finally returned to the NC fold, back to my beloved Bolt Driver - how could I ever think that the VS rifle was better than this?

BOOM headshot!

It wasnt a bolt action. He shot really fast. Yesterday it happend again, twice I think. But I cant tell the diffrence between standard weapons or unlocks but they are always shooting very fast so a bolt doesnt comes in question. I am pretty sure because i played sniper sometime too.

Back when I played regularly I found it the best OVERALL sniper rifle. Very easy to use, sure it's not 1 shot but you can drop someone at medium range in half a second.

It's so funny to see the VS sniper (as well as many other weapons and vehicles from all factions) go from what is perceived to be the worst weapon in the game to being perceived to be OP. It seems to happen fairly often and will continue to happen as everything is constantly being tuned.

The grass is always greener on the other side. I for one am happy the Dev team has built in tons of functionality for reporting on weapons. Bullets fired, accuracy stuff like that. This way they can balance with real data and not forums.

I found it the best back when the VS said all of their weapons were terrible.

I got kicked out of a random squad for claiming I was doing good with it in voice.

This was months ago, tho.
