Thank god. Not sure why they missed this from the start.
Otherwise, people may buy weapons, sight unseen only to be disappointed and be hesitant about making future purchases. Not sure if they thought of the psychological aspect of this at all.

I'm really glad they're adding this, but they should only let you trial it for about an hour or so. That way you're not getting a weapon for free for an entire day or something. Plus after an hour, I'm sure you're able to find out if you like it or not.

This is great. Might be even better than the VR room for weapons since you could earn a fair amount of XP while trying it out. Don't get me wrong cuz I still really want the VR rooms back, this is still a really good step in the right direction.

That looks more like, "Ahhhh Chooo!", but who am I to judge? :)
This is one of the best community suggestion to be added to the game. Honestly, this beta has been everything I had hoped it would be when I started waiting for it and talking about "Planetside Next" a year and half ago.
Now... SOE just needs to get on with making SWG 2, before I am too old to get any time with it!

Yes exactly this, although I feel that I should clarify that it must be based on the game before they turned it on its head and changed it from one of the best games to ever grace my desktop to well just.....meehh

Or maybe not!
The reason peeps have been excited about this topic is how BAD most of the "sidegrade" weapons are and how cheesed off they'd be if they paid RL money or lots of certs for something that basically doesn't work.
The Walker and Lasher spring to mind, but there have been many examples during beta.

Buh buh buh.... but what about the meta game? These Devs suck!
That was sarcasm and a mockery of the bitters. How long has it been since we've seen devs that listen and do stuff like this?

Very nice, definitely a step in the right direction. I just hope they don't get lazy and decide not to do a VR room just because this seems enough in their eyes. :p

You think it's possible? I was thinking they might have an opportunity again since I heard Lucas Arts sold the Stars Wars IP to Disney.

Christ, I'm kidding. Dont' kill me.
Or renting attachments to make them shoot straight, like Battlefield Play4Free. Ugh.
Back to the OP - excellent news this; nothing more likely to stop people spending money than selling them an untried gun that they find they don't like.
oooh. hope it doesnt just vanish when it expires mid combat.
making mean faces at the enemy doesnt work very well.

GL sold everything to Disney, all IP, companies, merchandising rights... everything. For 4 BILLION dollars. BILLION! I'd say that GL had more business sense than his father gave him credit for when GL decided to make movies instead of manage the family business.
SOE is still working with LucasArts on Clone Wars Adventures, so I don't see any reason why they wouldn't work together on a SWG 2. Smed did say that SOE wants to get away from using other people's IP, but realistically, a great publishing/production contract will always win the day over idealism. I think if the "emergent game play" design of Everquest Next is a hit, we'll see a SWG 2 within a year or two afterwards. UO and SWG pretty much wrote the book on that style of game play.

VR was superior.
I Can not see how anyone would think giving someone something and then taking it away in a live situation is a good idea.
It will not end well. This is about as much of a great idea as Fallen earth starting everyone at level 40, with awesome guns, only to boot them to level 1 with nothing.

I think that's a terrible idea to give someone something, then take it away in the live setting. But this is another issue THEY created. With the removal of sanctuaries, and the opposition to anything that worked in the original that seem pervasive in this development. They completely remove the possibility, utility and clarity of purpose of the VR area in favor of the above. Its slightly mid boggling. But completely inline with "If you are not shooting, we are failing" mentality.

it´s cool!
you can test the guns, and i am sure they will not vanish midfight! maybe they get a spawncounter and you can spawn 5 to 10 times with this gun equipped to test it out in combat. and if you like it, you buy it.
if you abuse this to start with better guns, you cannot test them again, when you have enough points to grab one. i wouldn´t touch the testguns until i have enough certs or cash on hand to buy one right after testing it.

Um, didnt he just say VR is coming later? im guessing that means they are confirmed...even though you think the possibility is gone for it.

Well, they keep saying "not making any promises", which doesn't inspire much confidence. :/
what Id love to see, maybe on the last day or two...crack everything wide open. no certs, no cost...load what you want, try what you want, customize what you want.
then unleash hell.

A PS1 shooting range that was in Sanctuary would be better.

It's not as good as the PS1 shooting range. What if something is patched and works differently, than you won't be able to try it again.

The trial is better than nothing, I myself suggested it some months ago during beta in the official forums, but it's not as good as a VR shooting range. I understand that the devs really don't have time for "good", they are going for "working". I also hope to see a shooting range and sanctuaries in the future though.

I agree. I also would love to see a shooting range/ sanc. I want to be able to walk around and hear things like "Gear get your gear here!" Then be able to stop by the clothing store and buy my zebra cammo and my skull mask. If they do this you should be able to go third person there just to check out your stuff. Their is no reason not to have this stuff it makes it feel like a world to me instead of just a game.

Well this was a relief... I didn't expect them to have this ready for launch (lets hope that they don't just say but actually do it).
I was really dreading having to buy weapons blind and being forced to scavange the forums for precious (but unreliable) information about how they work. Especially given the time or money investment that comes with these unlocks the potential for nerdrage was very high...
Being able to use it for a limited duration or something like that in real battle sounds ok. I think I'd prefer a VR shooting-range where you could test anything you wanted for as long as you wanted but outside of the real game. I would almost think that this would be easier to do as all it really requires is an extra tiny tiny continent (quick to slap together with some copypasta from the other conts) that works on normal rules except that on that cont everyone has all unlocks. Pump up the warpgate shield to 4x normal radius so there is a plenty big safe-area for those who want that and let the rest of the tiny continent be for "real-combat" testing against enemies who are also in VR. One single base in the middle - not far from the warpgate and with easy nearby spawns would do the trick.
In any case I am very relieved to hear that there is SOME kind of system for this. Anything at all will be a whole lot better than nothing.
