Hey guys. I'm completely new to Planetside. I just played for awhile and for the most part it just seems like a huge bunch of chaos......i know its partly because I'm a noob and dont know the ins and outs.

But I have a few questions:

Do some real tactics such as basic flanks and such actually hold any advantage?

Is it possible for smaller elements of infantry to really make a difference? Behind enemy lines or disrupting the enemy on any scale actually worth noting?

thanks

By yourself I would have to say no, but with a well organized squad and or outfit than yes.

The other night we ran into elements of the enclave holding a hill outside a base on amerish. While my squad attacked head on I drove my tank around a mountain and flanked the defenders. I ended up getting about twenty klls and we swept through those defenders and then had a great fight at the base. Flanking is amazing when it can be pulled off.

flanking always wins. iv wiped out armour columns and entire pushes by flanking with a mag and a gunner on the saron. you can practically instant kill enemy tanks with a driver and gunner coordinating their shots.

People have such tunnel vision in this game. I've had a squad that came in the air pad of a bio lab take out an entire platoon of players camping the teleport room.

It's this kind of squad tactics that makes Outfits so attractive in this game.

definitively. You just need to be patient. The zerg is easy to flank. outfits not so much.

Protip. Use light assault to fly onto the 2nd floor of a tower, hide near the flag, then fly onto the 3rd floor , take the lift, kill anyone, and jump again onto the ledge right above the doors. if you can pull it off, you can net an easy 5 kills in a couple of seconds.

Be in the place no one expects you to be. So yeah, flank, unless they know you will be flanking.

Also, join an outfit, as the coordination will help facilitate flanking. Preferably VS :)

One person completely solo can rarely achieve stuff other than pissing off a couple of enemies, but he or she can definitely be the the tongue that tips the scale in a larger context.

If you have a bigger element (like the zerg or the main portion of a squad or platoon) to cause a ruckus and steal all the attention in one direction, smaller elements (smaller squads or even loners) can have a field day by flanking.
Just make sure you don't flank so wide that you find yourself in the next hot zone over.

In the bigger picture, you're pretty much always reliant on other people to get shit done.
