Ok so there has obviously been a lot of talk about this but at PS2's current state (almost end of beta) would a rig with the requirements below run the game because if not that's slightly worrying as it's almost released.
System Specs:
Intel Pentium 4 3.2GHz
AMD Radeon HD 7850 OEM
8Gb DDR3 Crucial Ballistix RAM
Gigabyte SKT-1155 Z77 DH3 Motherboard
Cooler Master RS650-ACAAE3-UK GX-Series 650W 80 Plus Power Supply Unit
I can understand the processor might not cut it so also I would like some info if I replaced it with an i5 3570K Ivy Bridge.

Yeah that processor definitely doesn't cut it :p
I have an i5 3570k myself and it is a good processor. However not really in Planetside 2. I have two GTX 580's in SLI, and I still only get around 35-40 FPS in medium sized fights on high settings. Changing it to lower settings doesn't help much. They really need to delay the game and make sure the performance is increased. I absolutely don't believe it will be fixed in a few days.
I really like the game but the preformance really puts me off... 30-40 FPS is just too low for me...
Yeah with my rig I get like 40 GPS on any setting. Pretty bad performance.

It works ok on my old rig.
Core 2 quad @2.4 ghz
4 gig ram
32 bit vista
Hd Radeon 5750

I get 30-40 (on high) and it's perfectly playable. It's odd tho because 30-40 would not be playable at all in PS1.

I have my TV hooked up to my PC, and I read on the SOE forums that someone removed his HDMI cable from his PC, his FPS increased. So I just did that and yes, I got an increase in FPS :) I get around 50 FPS (all settings on high including physx effects) in reasonably big fights now. Plays much better, however I do would like to see 60+.
So for people who have their TV/extra monitor or whatever hooked up to their PC, try removing the HDMI/DVI/VGA(lol) cable to see if you get an increase in FPS. Do not just disable your second screen in the driver, I also tried that and that didn't work. You really need to remove your cable ;)

If you don't get an intel cpu and at least an i5, you will not have a really great time in this game right now. Performance improved but it is still shitty, I get 30 fps in large battles with my i5@ 4,2Ghz.

3770K. Min of @ 60 FPS - often nipping at 90 FPS in less densely poulated bases.
(max'd on all settings)
4X126 Samsung 830 SSDs in Raid-0, and the gay ASRock Fatal1ty Pro Z77 mb.
(32GB of RipJaws 1600ram)
OC'd CPU, but that did NOT seem to affect FPS I was getting vs stock CPU clock.
Guess my SSD & Ram help. Obviously, robust Galaxy 670 w 4GB has to be major factor w FPS.
Loaded game on another older PC, and it runs it (w/only .512 ram) and weak-ass
GPU, mb, and cpu....but, it's NOT worth it...too grainy and laggy. I can feel the heat
pour out of the top of my Lian Li case from underpowered CPU struggling so hard....
...........so, investing in better components is recommended (essential?) evil.
(started saving for this game @ year ago - just ask Goku)
I am now saving to rebuild the Lian Li so friends can come over and join me, instead
of sitting there bored while I get killed. Or, my daughter and boyfriend can drive & gun
for each other.....then, wifey can get the tv in the other room.....and I'll be the one
bored watching everyone else play.
.....not a bad scenario....someone else building up my certs & XP....while I go out drinkin'
(or whatever) with the guys....

2.4ghz dual core
4 mb of ram
GeForce 9800 GT
Average 25 fps I reckon, in a big battle drops to 10 fps so unfortunately I usually stay away from them. Still manage to do ok though.
Also, hello all.

Well 30 is at least playable and is fine with me and if it's 30 in large battles then it must be a good 50 in smaller battles so not too bad.

iv had no problems and get good fps. only the odd person with lagg.
though my pc is
Intel Core i7-3930K 4.4GHz (Sandybridge-E)
Asus X79 Sabertooth Intel X79
Corsair Dominator 32GB (4x8GB) PC3-12800C10 1600MHz Dual/Quad Channel
Sapphire HD 7970 VAPOR-X GHZ 3072MB GDDR5 (slightly overclocked)
Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache
i thought your eyes cant see more then 30fps anyway? lol. well id say they will keep working on it but people cant expect a brand new game specially one this big to run on old/ slow machines. they can only make it look so crapy lol.

HD 7870 Dual Fan Black Edition OC'ed
8 Gb DDR3 1600 Corsair Vengeance
Mobo P8P67
I5 2500k 3.3 Ghz
I do get at lowest 20 fps in high settings. Must be the hidden FXAA that SOE put on it, I might try disableing it on live.

My 4 year old AMD 9950 with a GTX 260 and 4GB of ram will run between 15-25 which is playable. My new rig is a AMD 8150 OC to 3.9ghz with a Nvidia 670 and I run pretty well. In short yes you can probably play on your current and play well with a newer processor. All these guys with bad performance might think about turning off the 30 other programs they have running maybe?

A P4 is a single core prssessor so that would be way under the minimum requierment.
And yes you will improve your computer allot if you replace your 12 year old CPU with a new one.
PS: But are you sure you have a intel Pentium 4 3.2GHz CPU? It just sounds so wared compare to the rest of the hardware you list. It's like saying you have a steam engine in your new Ford Mustang.

Hmm that must be why I felt like I was behind everyone else.
Well technically I'm in the process of building a rig and I've picked up a free PC and I'm gonna take out the motherboard and powersupply (along with CPU and RAM) and replace it with the newer stuff only cost me £469 ($745) so yeah.

AMD has been discriminated against in the development of Planetside 2 as proof in interviews has shown that Nvidia has deeply invested in the game to sell chips.
So, if you either have an AMD cpu, OR GPU...you are boned sir.
No matter what.
A dual core i3 with a semi decent Nvidia card (lets say 512mb) will beat the snot out of my quad core phenom 2 with Radeon 512mb equivalent.
I get 20-30 fps on my laptop, tanking down to 8-10 in a bad zerg.
Dollars to your donuts that the i3 with Nvidia card does better.
