Does anyone think that SOE will come up with a preload before the game goes live?
I can't describe what a fuck up it is not to have thousands of people ready to click 'PLAY' as soon as it goes up.

There will unfortunately be no pre-loading day 1. sorry. unavoidable for a lot of reasons.
9:57 AM - 16 Nov 12
Some folks will get their DL from Steam at least, might help with demand a bit.

I imagine (well guess :p) when this reaches 0...

....the site comes up, we all start DLing (Steam or official site) and we all get the chance to start paying them $'s for subscriptions, and the first people in after the DL get a chance to nab names (if they didn't use Alpha squad).
Of course exactly what happens with Pro7 or any of the other franchise stuff, who knows. Anyone with an old Sony Station account who played Ps1 gets to be an SoE customer as far as I know, or choose to opt into Pro7 later.

Ok. I really hope that I can download this game within 3-4 hours and play late into the night.
Anyone found out how big the game is going to be?

It's installed on other 'puter here, cant remember the size on the HDD but that still isn't the gold client anyway. I would guess it'll be in or around the 6-8gb range though.

the system requirements say to have 15gb of free hard drive space. these requirements usually ask for a few extra gigs for future patches and such so I'm guessing around 10-13 gb? Somewhere around there if I had to ball park.

I don't mean to crush your hopes, but I would just plan on skipping the release. The first day of such events is usually just chaotic. Nothing works, everyone has problems and noone has fun. Just skip the first day, get a good book/movie and log in a day later. It will save you a lot of trouble. As they say: Never play on patch day.

good point. launch day will be hectic. this is true for every mmo. I always find it funny that people flip out the first week of a game's launch because they have to be in queue or it's too laggy. I understand it's frustrating but it's just one of those things you have to sort of expect.

I don't know why they need the game to go live right now.
No preload means they are working on the client till the very last minute.

Development money has probably ran out.
PS2 and forgelight were expensive to make, and Sony isn't doing too well financially.
They probably want to start seeing a return on their investment.

I thought about that of course, however they have had two triple station cash sales recently. I would say that those of us that plan on spending money have already spent it.

When the counter reaches 0 their servers will melt from all the people downloading it...
I'll be getting my copy via Steam though, been getting good download speeds on all major releases in the last couple of months.

I had to do a full download yesterday after a Windows update hosed my HD. It was 6 gig.

After I uninstalled the game, I hit install again just to see and it said 6.8 something gigs. So at least in that range. Having done that, I had to delete the planetside 2 beta folder again since it created it and put stuff in.

I did the same thing.
Regarding the release day and the fact that we won't be able to preload... Well methinks it will be a right mess. I'm not going to be wanting another Diablo 3 launch experience so I'm just going to wait a bit after downloading.

I hope they will be smart about this and make an offcial torrent strongly seeded by one of their own servers. If they do then that's what I will be using while the official straight-up download server bursts into flames from 100.000 7GB requests within an hour...
