Does anybody know if Planetside 2 will have Steam achievements?

I highly doubt it since that would require steam to be integrated with the game. The devs have been working hard just to get the game ready for launch without having to do as well.

Im sure in game achievements are on the agenda somewhere unlocking certain skins and such.

Yeah, and who said that there are going to be achievements?

Achievement points are things like empire locked continents and bases with your flags on them.

They already have a medal system posted on the guns, that's more than enough for me.

I'm sure SOE is focusing on their own ingame stuff. You can already earn medals for getting certain number of kills with weapons, and it gives xp. And we know you unlock new loadout slots at certain BR ranks.

You "achieve" something when your team caps a base.

In-game rewards feels more tangible than having the external framework provide auxiliary input. Some people love auxiliary input though, but this would make the most sense if Steam is the only delivery platform available, and if it does not divert any effort whatsoever in this ah... most critical moment in time.

With the amount of stats they are keeping track of I don't think that an achievement system would add much.

What they could do is track more obscure, achievement-ish stats like "Galaxy kills via drop-pod" etc.
