This is just a heads up for those of you that like me tried to buy PS2 membership using valid credit card and got the following message:

"We're sorry, when we attempted to charge the payment method you provided it was declined. Please contact your payment provider directly to see why this occurred. You may also select an alternate credit card or payment method to continue with your purchase."

Chances are that your bank just does not support zero $ pre authorization. Other on-line services usually charge 0,01 $ and cancel it for authorization purposes. In case of SOE this amount is 0 $ and both banks I am working with automatically reject such transaction.

That's what they told me in my banks when I called them and SOE support confirmed that: if my bank cannot accept zero dollar authorization charges, I will not be able to use that card (in case of SOE).

Nothing else to do but to wait for pay pal option :(

Go to a gas station and buy a debit card and load some cash on it.

That sounds like an US kind of thing. In EU where I live you can buy a beer and prepaid phone card on gas station. Credit cards you get in the bank AFAIK.

There are many websites with virtual prepaid cards but they all look like scam to me. But if someone here could recommend a good solution for EU that would be great.

It gives me an error message even before I have a chance to enter a CC.

Maybe they just took it offline?

How about using Bank Transaction?

Its online at the moment and the only payment method is credit card. You can find it in your account details under 'Membership Info'.

I hope we'll get this option eventually, because I can't subscribe with my credit card as well.

0$ authentication would not be a problem for me if there was other payment methods i could use ...

I see Paypal is not an option for PS2 membership, for some paypal is preference, but for others its a necessity (regional banking policies). Will paypal going to be implemented ? ... or will we simply be left out.

Same thing had happened with Alpha squad, i dont see why it wasnt added.

Crappy service from start in my opinion.

I wanted to chip in here, most of my credit cards were denied to SOE not because of the cost (I carry a 0 balance). But the cards WERE denied because of the suspicious billing traits of SOE. It may sound outlandish, but buying stuff like subscriptions to online game runs with a HIGH risk of CC and identity theft.

0 $ pre authorization is retarded, no body uses it.
I guess its one of those things like going into metric system..
Some people/companies are slow to adjust.

I can use my CC for every where ... But when its comes to SOE, NOPE, they still use stone age authentication. And no other payment option to offer as backup.

I live quite close to German border so I could go there and buy such a card. Could you please let me know what should I ask for at the gas station? Could be in German ... thanks in advance.

Edit. I already found mywirecard VISA 2 go which you can buy on gas station in Germany but I contacted their support and they told me they do not support 0 $ authorization either:
...
- you: does it support zero dollar authorization? I am asking becouse the card I am using now is rejected by Sony online service becasue they use this zero $ authorization that is not supported by my current card.
- Wirecard Serviceteam: Wirecard does not support it either.
- you: ah I see, thank you. So none of your card support it I understand?
- Wirecard Serviceteam: Yes that is right.

Haven't used it myself, but know several people who have. Not sure what country you live in, but there are quite a few flags across the top of the page.

Thanks for that info. Those several people you mentioned, did any of them managed to register such card with SOE? I would love to get some confirmation before I buy it.

You know what? Forget it, if Sony does not want my $ it's not my problem ... I will play for free then.

I live outside the US and when Sony tried the $0 shenanigans my bank locked out my debit card because that is apparently what fraudsters first try to do (I'll let people draw their own conclusions :P).

Once I worked out what had happened I was able to work with my bank's fraud team to let it through; but it was a PITA. If there is a next time, I'll just use PayPal and put up with the more expensive currency conversion.
