If you can't un install it normally, just delete the actual folder.

I thought they were going to come out with a official uninstaller.

I deleted the folder, ran the setup and uninstalled the remainder from there. Seemed to work.

TBH I'm not convinced that the beta client can't just be patched. After all all it's doing is syncing files with the server, most shouldn't need to be replaced if you updated right at the end of beta because they wouldn't have changed. I found the launcher still updates and connects. I'd wait to see what happens before removing it.
I've played other MMOs where they said the beta client wouldn't work after launch, but did just fine :/

The beta is basically all contained in a folder under public. I would figure when it comes out legitly its going to be a legit program somewhere under program files. The installer probobly wont even connect since I am guessing they use a different location for the main game. I have seen several questions asked and all answered with you must delete and redownload, no pre downloading, sorry, deal with it.
It make take a day but for a game that will goes years I think it will be ok.

The location it's installed to doesn't matter as long as all the files are there, you can even copy it to another drive and it will still work (yes I tried it).

I'm just going to wait until tomorrow. If the program doesn't update or "repair" from the launcher available during beta, it'll be no problem to uninstall/delete the beta client and redownload the release client. I won't be getting in too much play time this week anyway... *sigh* Retail. Early hours. Thanksgiving/Black Friday sales. Etc.
Actually... that's probably a good thing.

The Devs have explicitly told us to not just install the Release over Beta, but to uninstall Beta first, so I'd go with their recommendation.
That said, to uninstall:
Delete the PS2Beta install directory

Just delete the folder. It's not rocket science fella.

I had to resort to deleting the files unfortunately.
Hopefully it doesn't mess anything up with the new client tomorrow.

According to "SOE engineers" it won't. The installer will just overwrite the 2 entries in your registry, which you could do yourself if you really wanted to. :groovy:

A lot of people have been getting 1001 ERROR. I found if you just do the steps sony listed in a different order it should work.

I spent 5 hours wiping the hard drive and reinstalling Win7.
Then again, I needed to do that anyway. So this was simply good motivation.

I'm aware of this. What I'm not aware is the reasoning of why.

I followed what this guy said to do. Since i'm pretty sure a Dev confirmed this is how you should do it if your getting the error.

I'm hanging on to mine until release comes and see if I can't convince it to install over / repair and maybe save some download time.
Most MMOs will say to uninstall beta and install the release and it makes sense for them as it gives a known situation for support if any oddities arise. Despite this I've rarely actually had to do that and most were ok overwriting any changed files.

I'm fairly sure that this is probably the case... from a technical standpoint it makes little sense that it wouldn't somehow be doable. I think they just want clean installs across the board for the sake of making as little trouble as possible. It is a heck of a lot easier to support people when you know that each one has an indentical fresh install as compared to an old patched build that might still contain settings and stuff that became obsolete.
I think probably the best idea is to make a copy of the beta files, then uninstall it as pr. SOE instructions. Then install PS2 via the launcher - abort the download - and put in those backup-files. I think what will happen is that it will skip the majority of the download then because most of those files will indeed be identical. A full repair-install might be in order to make sure everything is as it should be though.
This probably isn't worth it to the majority, but if you have a slow connection (or you re just super impatient) and you have a minimum of technical expertise then I think its probably worth a shot.
EDIT: its probably a bit cleaner to only save the "resources" folder, as this folder only contains assets (no settings and such) and thus has pretty much zero potential to screw anything up (any mis-matching files get overwritten by launchpad). That folder alone is about 95% of the total install size too so you should get all of the benefits of a fresh install but skip most of the download. I will certainly give that a try :)
