Well, i am going to bust out a few c64 games that were favs in my childhood.
-Jumpman- you are a man.. that jumps. It's a platform type game and you have a few hundred stages. Each stage you gotta grab all the coins/meatballs?? (i could never tell wtf these things were).
-Temple of Apshai- very old rpg, but there were rudimentary graphics at least and lots of dungeons, weapons n' stuff.. I think this was the sequal to another game which I had but can not remember the name.
-Beach Head 2- war game with different stages, each stage had a completely different type of game play. It was always the allies vs the dictator! The best part was the speach during the final stage throwing knife fight where you could duck, jump and yell "haha, you'll never get me"
-Raid over Moscow- Another one of those games with a dozen stages and each stage is like a whole different game.. suffice it to say you are blowing up communists in this cold war classic.
-Raid over Bungling Bay- Awesome top down helicopter combat game where you have to blow up factories on different islands, but you had better make sure the computer doesn't finish building his battleship or you are owned.
-Impossible Mission 1- Sweet platform game where you are a spy that infiltrates some super secret sky scraper and has to accomplish stuff while only being able to jump overtop of some megalomaniac's robots with deadly hair dryer type things mounted on their heads. Speech was great in that game, it brought us awesome quotes like "Stay awhile.... staaaaaaaay forever!!!" and "Kill him my robots"
as far as pc games
-xcom- sweet ass turn based strategy game that pited you against an alien onslaught. Research uber weapons and supplies that will help you drop kick the aliens.
-wolfenstein 3d- does this need explaining? oh well... kick ass fps where you must own nazis. I was the best wolf3d player on the planet and I am not joking around either.
-commander keen- before id made doom, they made a series of sweet side scrolling games that made super mario brothers look lame.. except you were this kid with this football helmet on that had to blast slugs or something.
-wing commander- hella sweet space combat flight sim. A genre that really lacks a lot of titles, but this one was cool.. especially if you don't like cats.
-ultima 6- my favorite of the ultima rpg series. The graphics were really starting to look good in the series at about this point, the music was awesome too :) Funny when I used to play that I'd always imagine how awesome it would be if you could play that game online with a crap load of other people!... if I only had an idea of how that would really pan out before it finally did come into fruition :/
-spacequest 3- omg.. adventure game where you are a space janitor that has to save the day, and you get to wear thermal underwear and play rockem sockem robots in the process. I was a sucker for sierra :(
Short description.. :p i suck at following rules

Haha, yeah. Good old Sierra. I played all of their "3d adventure games", ie Police Quest, King's Quest, Quest for Glory, etc. Quest for Glory 1 and 2 were my favorites out of that series. I played a ton of Ultima Exodus (3 I think..) for the NES when I was a kid, but my mom thought it was evil so we threw it away at the gas station across the street.

well I have only lived for 13 years so I cant really count out that much since I was only 3 years old in 92.
But ive played Wolf3d which was great, and doom1 and 2 whcih was good, also stunts was okay. Stunts is a car game/action car game where you could make your own maps and do obstacles like a looping and lots of other stuff around the map which you had 2 go thru to win the race, really great for 1990.

Sorry about that,
Quest for Glory I: So You Want To Be A Hero - Adventure (I guess)
Quest for Glory II: Trial By Fire - Adventure - I don't even remember if QfG games are all that good, I just remember that they were my favorite Sierra games when I was younger.
Ultima 3: Exodus - RPG - I was obsessed with this when I was about 7 or 8. My brother and I played it constantly until the day my mom made us throw it away.
