Check the newest Galaxy picture on the official site. Save it to your harddrive and zoom in on the cockpit.

Two pilots?

The President and I have a theory that it could be the tail gunner, but I think I remember him getting in through the back, and I've never seen the second seat before.

Opinions? Comments? Hamma?

-Yeah The President most deffinetly is intrigued by this. I would imagine the tail-gunner to have his own space back there but then again maybe not. Regardless it can easily be seen that there are two seats.

Phantom pilot? We'll see.

If any of you guys have any information on this please post it as to shed some light on the situation.

I can confirm that the tailgunner was originally located in the tail as portrayed by the crew position chart shown in a Gunner seat screenshot. They may have moved it forward.

Yeah, I deffinetly think he should be positioned to the rear but who knows what the powers that be have designed. Hamma?
Adding in a co-pilot could put a whole new face on the galaxy, mapping, comm, pilot ejector seat control.

I doubt its a co-pilot, no where on the info page of the galixy does it say that there will be a co-pilot. I think its the same kind of thing like how the gunner sits right behind the pilot in a real life jet. Just my thought though...

maybe its just a glix-a-rafic pic that was somehow screwed up

The President

Yeah i doubt the co-pilot too but who knows.

Hmm... It could just be a careless mistake. Or, it could just be that there is two pilots. Huh.. Well, we'll find out. :)

There is definetly no co pilot, so it has to be the tailgunner.

The President

Why do you think they'd put him up front?

Considering there are entry and exit animations for all vehicles, it would be a real pain in the but for the tailgunner to climb up onto the tail and hop down into the gun. Much easier to simply put him behind the pilot.

I remember seeing a screenshot of the tailgunner climbing into the cockpit with the pilot already in there. I'll see if I can't find it again.

EDIT: Still looking, but you can clearly see two distinctly seperate seating positions HERE. (http://www.planetside-universe.com/media/viewer.php?img_id=556) So it's not a glitch, but it doesn't prove it's the tailgunner yet.

EDIT2: AH! Thar she blows! (http://www.planetside-universe.com/media/viewer.php?img_id=600) It's even titled all pretty and perfect.

Can a Galaxy have 3 people manning the guns? One left, one right, and one rear?

Yeah, 2 guns on the engine pylons and 1 on the bottom of the tail.

It's the tailgunner. If you've ever seen what a Galaxy looks like, you'll realize that the guns are not physically manipulated by the gunners like they were in Star Wars on the Millenium Falcon, where they sat with the gun and pivoted it using their arms. Otherwise we'd have some pretty daring gunners, having their positions right inside the two wing engines of the ship, and one in the back occupying a space so small that you'd have to really compress a soldier to get him to fit (unless you used midgets). So, yeah, the second guy in the seat is a tailgunner. And the chart with the yellow dots showing what parts are occupied is not necessarily drawn according to where the person is physically located, but instead what aspect of the ship is occupied (which is why the tailgunner turns on the yellow dot in the tail, even though he's sitting behind the pilot).

Thanks guys for the input.

You know, a copilot is a great idea.

In the event of the pilot losing his/her connection, it would be great to have someone become the pilot in their absence.

Hamma, I seem to remember that when someone makes a vehicle (usually the galaxy pilot), no one else can use that galaxy unless they set some option to allow them to.
Does that option go away when the galaxy autlands due to a disconnection?

Permissions are set by the pilot, he decides who gets in and out of the passenger and pilots seats. I would assume it depends on what he set before disconnecting. ie, squad only, or empire only.

Well, that should be set to everyone can fly when the pilot gets out, until another pilot gets in.. I would have to have my pilot get disconnected and a full squad of people is left out in the middle of no where...

Chances are you aer not gonna have another galaxy pilot in tow anyway. He would be flying another galaxy somewhere. hehe
