I'm leaning with using SOE,
However Steam might be more stable....
With 15 mins to choose I am torn.

SOE
Downloading from Steam will just link you to the launchpad and DL from the same servers anyways.

I would like to D/L with steam, the only issue I have is whether or not I'd be locked out when Steam is having issues.
I played STO through steam and it wasn't a great experience.

I would be highly surprised if Steam didn't just give you the launcher to download the game from SOE.

I'll be downloading from Steam, just to show my friends list what I'm playing. :)

Even if you get it from steam you will still be DL from SOE.

Downloading from Steam in the UK, 2.9GB of 7.2. Anywhere between 600Kb and 7Mb with a peak of 12.4 so far, which was nice. Hasn't opened the launcher at any point so far.
Website still not loading for me.

I wanted to go with a DL from Sony. I've never been the biggest fan of Steam. But, Sony failed this time. Their servers crashed apparently. Steam wins and I'm already at 33%.

Looks like Steam is the way to go since I am almost done.....
Even if the Launcher needs to be patched the bulk is already going to be done.

Launcher - getting insane speed...

I started with Steam because the site wouldn't load at all. However, Steam's rate started dropping out so when the PS2 site finally loaded I cancelled and went with the SOE launcher...
Steam wanted to D/L 9+Gb, but he launcher only 6.8Gb and is currently going twice as fast! As the launcher requires you to log in I'm wondering if it's related to being a subscribed member?

This is no longer correct, I was wrong.
Steam gives you the full client.
Go with steam, they have the infrastructure.

I usually get around 1.2-1.3 MB/s on steam but when downloading this game I get between 1.1MB/s to 350 kb/s
So I guess allot of players are downloading it on steam right now.
Launcher has overtaken Steam. Surprised Steam didn't just fire the launcher up. Liking the banner on the Steam store. Can't bloody wait!

Interesting didn't expect this.
They are all using CDN's though you will get it fast regardless.

I didn't expect it as well. Its not the MO for most MMO like games on steam that I have played.
Pleasant surprise.

Steam is stable. The only downside is I can't install it to my SSD. I'm gonna have to get it from SOE eventually...

No need. Steam is a very Flexible program. You set where to install steam when you downloaded Steam originally, and subsequently, where to install games.
Simple fix is to move your steam folder and reinstall steam to point to it. Fin.

Nope, it's integrated and downloads completely into Steam. Just did it. It's great, so much easier to organize with online friends and to get them to join PS2!

Doesn't really matter; same game, same launcher. I'd use Steam just because of the snazzy shift+tab (which I hope is available) and being able to show my friends when I'm playing.
If you have some objection to Steam for whatever reason-- or you don't have it and don't want to download it-- you might as well just download it from SOE.
