How is communicating between your buddies going to be? I know it's your basic message screen in the upper right corner. And I can see aparently there's squad chat. But can you private message a certain person?
Can you talk to members of your squad if they are on a different continent?
Can you talk to ppl of different empires (even though it'll probley be "see an enemy, shoot!")?

And what do you all think of a chat box thing, to appear above the head of someone typing? Might cut down on the chat kills?
Even thou they'll still be lamers out there -.-

Most of the answers of your questions are in the FAQ, and no, you can't send tells to other empires.

It seems a lot of outfits will be using Teamspeak 2.0? Anyone able to enlighten those of us that have never used voice communications on online games before?

Look over the FAQ. There should be plenty of useful information there.

I thought there wasn't going to be any voice software with PS?

If you're referring to teamspeak, then its third-party software, not part of PS.

teamspeak and roger wilco will be widely used i think if there is no in-game voice support. Both are third party progs that can be downloaded for free

No need for PS voice communication built in when 3rd party people do it well enough.

You can private message people. There's squad chat. You can't talk to the enemy, and yes, even if you could, they wouldn't want to talk to you for any other reason that to a) betray their team, or b) spam taunt you. Which is why there is no inter-team communication.

Ghost, the built in voice chat is much like tribes 2. Say you wanted to call for help you could just push something like V V H and it would play a Help sound (for whatever voice you chose) and write down "Help!" in the chat box. Other than that you'll have to use a 3rd party voice chatting proggy with your squad.

Hes talking about IN GAME comms not 3rd party software u f00ls

Ghost - Think EverQuest. The Dev team are not going to re-invent the wheel when the EQ system also owned by SOE is so well proven.

And your going to ask how do I know its the same? Well even the font colours and the selected font is exactly the same as EQ!

You will have:

/outfit chat
/tell personsname chat
/squad chat
maybe /platoon chat
/say chat

plus any other chat channels that will exist. You may even be able to create your own, EverQuest added this ability quite a while after release.

I hope there will be localised chat... need that for communicating will colleagues near but without talking to the whole squad, as well as helping rp'ing for those who feel like it (inter squad chats in the locality).

Think /say speech from most MMORPG's (but not AC2 which has like a 200m radius :/).

"Did you hear something?"

"Seen the new T18? It's really something..."

heh

There is a local shout/tell that the enemy can hear if they are close enough.

For those of you that haven't heared of it, there's a newer third-party voice prog called Ventrilo. Kicks the shit out of Roger Wilco for sound quality. It's not 56k friendly though, and it does require someone to set up a server. But it does have multiple channels, and seems like just about every feature of every other game voice program combined, with better sound quality. It is like a breath of fresh air in TFC.

I intend to see that whatever outfit I join has an outfit ventrilo server.

Oh, and it's free. ;)
