View Full Version : Why is toggle sprint so silly?

Anyone noticed how the toggle sprint just works...unintuitively? It's not like any other game I can think of and for good reason, it's ridiculous.

Normally, in a lot of games you run (W) hit shift, and when you stop moving you're stopped. The next time you press W you normal-run forward, so you can shoot/manuever, stuff.

However in this, after stopping from a sprint, hitting W sends you back into sprint. There's no indication sprint is "toggled", but it's really awkward if you want to say, sprint to a wall and then maneuver so you can shoot, because you'll sprint into the wall or out of cover, unable to firing while doing so.

Does anyone actually like this system? It seems really...off

Yeah, I don't use it either. It's weird and doesn't work very well if you stop and fire.

I dont have that happening at all you may want to check your settings and key maps.

I started a thread on the soe forum (http://forums.station.sony.com/ps2/index.php?threads/sprint-toggle-and-zoom-toggle-need-tweaking.48955/) about the same thing.

It's wonky and should be changed.

No, it's not the settings or key mapping, it's just the way it works (or doesn't work).

I know exactly what he's talking about.

Maybe an autohotkey script could fix it.

Press shift to set a variable, release w to unset it . . .
When set, releasing w will send a shift tap.

Yeah, it's just hokey IMO, feels very uncomfortable and unpredictable. I think they can fix it, but just strange it got this far without anyone else noticing.

I've always used the hold Shift key setting to run. Tried this W key thing, didn't like it. So you're saying if you could bind the sprint toggle to Shift key it would be better?

The "toggle sprint" function doesn't change the key, it's still shift. Problem is once you stop you would expect moving again to just move you normally, but it leaves you in "sprint mode".

I've noticed that "toggle sights" does the same thing with a reload. If you are in ironsights and reload it brings you back to ironsights, even though chances are you didn't necessarily want to go there, you wanted to reposition or something.

Yep, both are clunky and take a while to get used to. Or rather the toggle sights takes time to get used to, the sprint toggle is a recipe to die because moving forward with it on prevents you from firing and there isn't enough time to turn it off again if you get into an unexpected fight. Autorun also isn't in the game yet but that's being given to us at some point (my fingers hope its soon).

Doesn't do that for me? I've changed the keybind to be one of my extra mouse buttons (actually mapped to PGUP) but it works exactly as you'd expect - press it and hold it and you sprint whilst you are holding it, release it and you stop sprinting.

Unless something has changed since yesterday.

I'd actually prefer a toggle....

For those not having a bug this is how you enable\disable the toggle options and some other optimizations

I toggle crouch and ADS, but not sprint. Just too many occasions when you want to come out of sprint quickly and fire; sprint toggle seems counter intuitive to me.

The spring toggle needs to reset to normal movement speed when you stop moving (finger off W); is this not the case?

You are correct, and no, that is not the case currently.

WOW, that must be really irritating. Wonky, as you say.

I don't mind it, but i'm a sniper mostly. I certainly hate having to hold down shift for long periods of time.

I found that you can do several things to break sprint. Crouch (i have not set to toggle so i tap it), or weapon aim breaks it i believe. Regardless its not optimized at all

Hmm by definition it sounds like it is correctly working as a "toggle" but maybe requires some additional options to disable when stationary/crouching/sights for those who would expect to act like a "pseudo-toggle"...

Yep, this annoys me too. I had to turn it off. Toggle zoom is annoying too. When you are zoomed and switch weapons the weapon you switch to shouldn't automatically zoom in.

I totally agree, I can't stand it. :(

I just don't use it. If it was made better I might.
