Ive been thinking about why Its harder to deal with the recoil on so many NC guns. And why so many people say the Vanu are easier to play.
To be honest that has been my impression too.

Yes the recoil is bigger on some weapons but thats not the real problem. Burst fire isnt a tricky concept to learn.

THE PROBLEM IS ON MANY NC GUNS YOU CANT SEE WHERE THE SHOTS HIT - or at least not easily.
On the other hand Vanu are extremely easy to see - its like you are shooting a glowing hose of death.
But for some reason there is no impact graphic on many of the NC guns.

Seeing where the shots hits teaches people to use the guns right. You learn how long your burst can be. You understand the recoil pattern.
For some players this isnt an issue. But for most its actually really important.

If the devs added better impact graphics for all the NC guns I think most of the recoil complaints would go away.

Hmmm.... Maybe so... Now that I think about it, I think I do tend to hold down the trigger on my NC HA stock gun instead of burst fire. But I tried TR for a bit last night and didn't seem to have an issue. Didn't play long enough to remember if I burst fired more on TR though.

Not all of the TR weapons have an impact graphic its more common for them than NC.
One of the weird things is if you starting looking at the guns people say are good vs bad - the ones with no impact graphic tend to get the worse reviews.

Interesting point. Now that I think about it I do have trouble seeing the NC's bullets. Probably couldn't tell if I was missing or not.

And what makes it worse is its not even consistant. sometimes you load a gun and it shows the impact and other times it doesnt - for some of the guns.

For me, what makes accuracy so bad is that... the weapons are legitimately that bad.

I stood behind an engineer the other day as light assault who was maybe 10 feet in front of me, a shit-eating grin rolled accross my face as I had such a wide-open, perfectly clean shot. I calmly rested my reticule on the center of his back, and pulled the trigger until my entire clip was empty. He didn't even get phased, and to be honest, I'm not sure if he even got HIT. I was literally dumbfounded, how, at such a close range, in such a calm situation, this was even possible. I reloaded, and began to shoot again, mid-second-clip he turned around, fired what felt like 2 shots, and I died. Holy mother of god I was confused, completely fucking shocked. I can't imagine a scenario where this would even be remotely possible. I bought the forward grip right away after that, and it's a lot better, but even with the accuracy increase, the guns are STILL super inaccurate, it's just ridiculous! I'm 350ish credits in, as well as some station cash, and I'm not enjoying NC infantry at all because it's almost cartoonish lack of accuracy. I mean that shit was like in Pulp-fiction when the shots all magically missed point blank and left holes in the walls behind him.

Beyond that though, I think the ability to choose from a set of, or offering the ability to use custom rets that are "perma-centered" on the screen would help greatly. There are many times that the first shot of my gun brings my reticule-spread indicators WAY OUT in ass-fuck-no-where, and when I stop shooting and the reticule closes back up, I notice my center-point is off to the left-or-right of where i thought I was shooting a good ways... I like the spread indicators, but a perma-centered ret option would also really help a great deal so I could stay on my target. I'm sure this will improve with time in skill, so this isn't as big of a problem as above, but still.. it's a simple thing that would help a great deal for the NC faction. After trying TR and VS, it's a HUGE difference in spread and ease-of-the-kill for the other faction's infantry.

Based on current game data I can tell that the problem is that NC guns got the highest COF_RECOIL without DPS (DAMAGE_FALLOFF * REFIRE_TIME_MS) to justify it. This is especially visible in LMG department where top DPS guns are TR and VS and still they got lower COF_RECOIL than NC LMGs.

COF_RECOIL you cannot compensate with your mouse, you can only compensate using burst fire that reduces your DPS. Therefore without reduction in COF_RECOIL or increase in DPS NC guns are seriously underpowered.

NC guns were nerfed during last stages of beta. In my opinion it was done just to limit interest in NC Empire and provide more balanced population and had nothing to do with attempt to balance guns.

You nc guys can't shoot straight because most of the players are drunken rednecks.

Nope the problem with the nc weapons is cof, it seems to get slightly better throwing 300 a certs into a gun, but still a stock carv ownes any of the nc lmgs just based on its shots straight. The spread going full auto can be all over the place, basically making you burst at anything that isn't within 10m.
I have had fire fights where my rds is sitting right on a guys body and not a single bullet land

Yup, I bug reported this a whiiiiile back. There used to be a bright white/yellow flash when conventional bullets (it not VS) hit metal surfaces - and it's gone, as if its a bug. Now you just get a very unsatisfying few sparks.

Its even in gameplay footage from back before beta when higby was showing off a base at GDC or something, they storm in and you see the flashes on the wall as the bullets hit.

Is it one of those things that varies depending on graphics settings? If we've all dropped to 'low' after beta to compensate for FPS lost because there are more people playing, maybe we've inadvertently turned it off?

No.

You can have everything on medium or high and still get no impact flash(oddly you can respawn with the same gun and sometimes they will start appearing or stop appearing.)
With the same setting every Vanu gives an impact flash.
