View Full Version : My little temper tantrum

My apologies to Planetside Universe and the community here for losing my temper and trolling a couple posts. I hate trolls and am ashamed that I lost my temper and briefly turned in to what I most despise.
My frustration stems from another great game that is being ruined out of the gate by people who have nothing better to do than glitch, cheat, and do their best to ruin a fun gaming experience for the great, honest players.
Gaming is like any other hobby, some of us have a larger stake than others running gaming sites, servers, spending much of our time and money to have fun and hang out with friends.
As a life long gamer, my frustration stems from my lack of understanding as to why anybody would even think about cheating. It makes no sense to me, but what makes sense is that when you cheat, not only do you cheat others, but you cheat yourself.
Cheating in games is like showing up at a whore house without money, it just makes no sense, especially since it hurts others who pay and play just to have fun and enjoy the time we spend together playing with friends.
It's up to the community to make sure a great game does not get ruined by these scumbags, and the last thing I wnt to see is PS2 fold like many other games because of this problem, any vet gamer knows exactly what I'm talking about...
Have fun, enjoy the game...Peace

Nothing wrong with hating cheats.

You managed to wind me up. But i know you mean well. No one likes hackers, but I don't think the game is as bad as you say. I think there are a lot of bugs around that can be misinterpreted as hacking. The best thing to do is /report people, fraps them, post names.. Instead of just standing around damning the game take an active part, neighborhood watch style.
My beef with your posts was they we're well out of proportion based on my own experiences. New players who might have heard about the game, come to check out the most popular fansite would most definitely be put off by a post claiming hacking is rife when that simply isn't the case.

Well said, totally agree. But talking about anti-cheating, what does this game have in place to try and catch these scum out?

Higby has always stressed they have MANY things in place to catch them, including punkbuster and some of the standard things.. They have already insinuated they have tools that watch memory access to Planetside 2.. We know this because they said the Widescreen third party apps people have been using cant be used because they are indistinguishable from other things with more malicious goals.
They don't want to describe their techniques in much detail purely for the reason that it will help the hackers get around what tools they do have.

Do I have my head totally lodged up my ass? I haven't seen anyone around yet that I felt was cheating.

This is exactly my POV, had a couple of weird occurrences which i put down to bugs.. But nothing that looked like flat out cheating. Speaking as a FPS vet of almost 15 years who has seen a lot of hacks in his time.

Thanks man..this goes beyond PS2, we run several severs in other games and it's a big problem all the way around, starts with cheats and ends up with phishing..we spend our time and own money and this costs us bigtime...thanks again

Hamma we were around during beta so we know how to spot the glitchs that alot of people claim are hacks. yesterday afternoon there were some server issues that caused a lot of people not to render (so invisible people running around) this was confirmed by multiple people in outfit chat 1 group could see everyone but some couldn't see them, Another group couldn't see any one, and the last group could only see some. Also there were issues with pulling vehicles, so we knew instantly that it was a server issue. but people were shouting HACKS HACKS HACKS! and when i tried to explain to them what was going on they just screamed HACK HACK HACKS! louder...

I'm surprised...maybe because I admin my servers everyday I'm just paranoid, or aware, probably somewhere in the middle...I also tend to lump exploiters into the hack/cheat catagory, but many sites just released updated hacks and it's been bad the last few days..I'm on Mattherson, seemd to be bad, probabaly not as bad as my 'sky is falling rants' or just maybe I don't want to see another game ruined, I really enjoy PS2...

Hamma, it is just fear that everyone has. Coming from BF3, it is well placed. I hope we have a nice clean game for a long time.

My outfit members thought people were intentionally glitching warping around using some kind of cheat device, but than one of them started warping and didn't realize it. The game is just kind of buggy right now, but I'm sure it'll be fixed up soon. I haven't seen anything that remotely made me think people were cheating.

I've seen exploiters but so far I don't think I've run into anyone I'd call as using cheats

I have had a few instances...I was sitting in a corner last night and wasnt firing, I am a pocket engi...and was sitting in this corer and got headshotted from behind. Hmm...interesting...respawn, nobody pressing into the doors...take up my spot back in the corner...bam...headshot again from behind by the same guy....
I have also had those fights were I see hits recorded on my screen but when I die, the guy hasnt lost a single thing at all....I have been willing to chalk that up to server synch/lag.
BUT...these are the exceptions for myself, not the rule and definately not prevalent enough for me to claim widespread use.
There have been maybe 2 scenarios i felt like someone MIGHT be hacking, but i am pretty sure are due to lag (crazy warping).
I think most of the new players are used to playing unglitchy games their computers/consoles can handle. They haven't been around games with lag/glitch issues enough to tell the difference.
I just hope they do not convince all the other new and potential players that hacking is rife and scare them all away.

There are quite a few people using hacks. I have not seen a ton personally but I would be stupid to think they weren't out there (some of them are sneaky in how they use it). I usually like to fight against or alongside a person I think is cheating a few times before I report them.
I have reported 5 people so far. Some on my own faction.
Hamma and Jennyboo I thought you were customer service/admins for the servers? I thought you mentioned that once but I could be mistaken. Or is that supposed to be a secret?
Mysteriously I had over 250 cert points added to my account last night. Im not sure if this was a reward for reporting players? Can anyone else confirm that? I ended up with 600 cert points total and I used that to buy A2A missiles. I thought Higby or Smedley once mentioned that he would reward people who reported hackers.
Hackers can be very sneaky in how they use cheats. They could use them for slight changes in recoil, or they could use an auto aim to only stick to a person when they move the crosshair over a target manually, this creates the illusion of normal play while giving the user a massive advantage. Those radar hacks alone are an enourmous boost. So you really have to be experienced in how you observe players. You must know the capability of the weapon they are using and if what they are achieving is possible or even plausible. Do they have ESP about where enemies are, is their aim sticking to players, are they managing the recoil in burst fire beyond what a human and mouse is capable of, are they always hitting the same parts of the body, are they double tapping people in the head and torso in the same pattern? Is the program intentionally missing every 3rd shot to throw off their accuracy statistics to be less obvious?
Im sure SOE will figure it out.
There are hackers even in the more popular outfits. I won't name anyone just yet.

Fear The Amish despite what you think, people really do use cheats in games. It's not that incredible. It's not even uncommon.
There are also alot of people using alternate accounts and fellow outfit members to pad each other's statistics. Or is this heresy as well?
