The population is so much larger than it was in beta that a lot of strange server issues are appearing that simply didn't happen before. Or, at minimum, didn't happen the last month or so of beta as people had checked out waiting for release.
The one really critical case is when a whole continent just dies; grenades don't explode and just sit on the ground glowing red, vehicles don't die, Sundys don't deploy. This has happened to me twice the past week, and I don't even play that much.
Another case is the player rendering issue, which I would say is the #1 issue in my book currently. If I cannot see players 20m in front me, how am I supposed to survive. The tech plant zergfests are nearly off-limits for me, and that's where the huge cert point gains are for a lot of people.
One problem that is really bad for me personally is sometimes my FPS just takes a complete dump for no reason. I go from about 30 straight to 0; usually I will crash out of the game entirely, but sometimes it will hang on with a 1-2 FPS slideshow. Nothing renders and I will just float in mid-air. This happened to me yesterday in a tech plant defense (my sundy was the behind-the-shields sundy) and I had to churn away at 2 FPS for about 15 mins because I didn't want us to lose the base solely so I could reload the game. The fact that you lose your vehicle and spawn at the warpgate after a game crash is idiotic.

If the downtime makes the game better then I'm all for it.

It's not unusual to see a high patch frequency after release.
