Can anyone tell me what exactly it is? Anti-personnel mine? Can you carry and deploy just one? Does it take up the utility slot?

You can only carry and deploy one, unless you cert into it more, it's an anti-personnel mine, and it takes up the utility slot. I use the VS version as an Engineer and like it a lot, it's great for protecting generators and other key points, as well as suicide bombing large groups of enemies sometimes.

You can also carry one as Infiltrator (certed) but you wont be able to deploy it then switch to engy and deploy another two for a total of three.
The first deployed by the infiltrator is overwritten by the Engys second placement.

Lol, cool thanks.

I had some c4 just a few minutes ago and an almost fully loaded sunderer on Easimer barreled toward me, thinking I would be an easy road kill, I quickly threw it down and just before it hit me, I detonated, killing everyone, including myself. Nine kills, it was hilarious and pushed me to br23.

Forgot to add that if you want to add a third Bouncing Betty to your Engineer Utility slot then you will need to invest 3100 cert points.
Its in the last block of certs you spend in the,
Engineer: Suit Slot > Utility Pouch.
The wiki is a little out of date, here is how its laid out in game.
Utility Pouch 1 - 200 - Increase C4 by 1
Utility Pouch 1 - 400 - Increase Tank Mine by 1
Utility Pouch 1 - 500 - Increase C4 by 1
Utility Pouch 1 - 1000 - Increase Tank Mine by 1
Utility Pouch 1 - 1000 - Increase Bouncing Betty by 1

They all say it also allows each item to be carried in the Utility Pouch but thats where they are carried anyway.

The utility pouch replaces armor right? Do you find that you get killed easier with out the extra armor?

The Utility Pouch certification does replace Nanoweave Armour if that's what you currently equip in the Engineer: Suit Slot.
I have not currently bothered to cert into the Utility Pouch.
I expect for me it wouldnt make all that much difference, I'd die anyway.

Wouldnt mind testing if you had equipped the Utility Pouch and deployed your Tank Mine or Bouncing Betty supplies. Would they all remain if you went back to the terminal and then switched to equipping the Nanoweave Armour certs or any of the others.
Tank Mine might be cheap enough to try now.

Pretty much a guaranteed kill if you put them under the holes in the floor where you drop out of multi-tiered spawn rooms. I've died a few times to it and I don't know what to look for to avoid it.

Way to safely disarm them? Throw a nade at em or somethin?

If you see them and shoot them and they will go off
They aint fussy about who they dmg/kill when set off either.
They are hard to see even for the engineer who places them, have to get pretty close but there is an indicator on top.

And for those thinking of using them, dont place them near an enemy corpse, it will set them off about a second later.
