There were hints of this a long time ago.

I'm pretty sure they wouldn't make it cross-platform between PC and PS4. Because:
1. It would hold the PC back in the long-run.
2. PC gamers would have an unfair advantage.

Ugh I hope not.

Plus you have Dust514 on the playstation platform which won't help.

What's so bad about it? SOE has already limited themselves by saying that the game is able to run on 5 year old hardware - if next-gen consoles are more powerful than that benchmark, then I don't see any problem what so ever.

Console's have been consistently dumbing down PC Gameplay for years.

How so? I mean, I can understand overall restrictions in content due to aging console hardware and developers being devoted to providing the same amount of content across platforms, but I honestly cannot think of any features in PS2 that would be completely incompatible on console.

Well, that should tell you something then. ;)
This would not surprise me at all. What better title to showcase what a brandnew console can pull off than (a polished and improved) planetside 2?
Besides we allready have aiming down sight. :p

considering that its already on the PC, I doubt they would dumb down the interface on the PC, they would just create a new interface on the PS4.
Also, the PS4 is a ways out, so you have a few years before you have to worry about it - IF it comes out, which I still doubt. Since it is Sony, its not a stretch to believe that something like this could come out, but given how Sony has avoided such integration in the past, its likely to be a PS4 only version.
Finally, PS4 has the use of a mouse and keyboard, The PS Move (which isnt bad, its a good in-between), and a DS3. In Dust, most of the good players are using the mouse and keyboard.
My only concern would be the hardware limitations in regards to future development in the game. But I'd welcome back Fodderside for sure

Agreed. Other platforms routinely attempt to replicate the PC experience, but always fall short. A keyboard and mouse will not make up for the console's shortcomings, and any comparable technical specs can be attributed to 6 stagnant years of PC growth, thanks to console marketing.

If it ever comes to console, allowing players to use mouse and keyboard in PS2 would be a dealbreaker for me; not only are you giving the players who choose to use it a clear advantage, but you are also forcing players (who don't want to be at a disadvantage) to move from the couch to a desk, which completely flies in the face of the more 'casual' appeal of a console.
CCP felt forced to include mouse and keyboard in Dust 514, because in spite of popular demand for the game to come to PC, they chose to make it a Playstation exclusive. Planetside 2 doesn't face that same problem and should therefore remain controller-exclusive to keep the gameplay balanced.

as I stated, Sony has always resisted cross platform leaving it up to people like CCP and Valve. I doubt that they will cross integrate and instead make it PS4 exclusive. I would prefer to have it with a keyboard and mouse or at the least with the PS Move or I know I wont be interested. KZ3 and Resistance 3 are the only two playable games on the console for me :D Dust is even better with the mouse and nav controller, although the game sucks.

I don't understand why everyone is so up in arms about a console version of PS2. Using a mouse and keyboard is better than a dual shock controller, but even this generation of consoles are moving away from that to things like game-tailored controllers (think the instruments for Rockband and steering wheels for Forza) to flat out not needing a controller at all and using the likes of Kinect. For all you know, people playing PlanetSide on playstation 4 will be doing it by pointing actual guns at the screen while we're still stuck using a mouse and keyboard. Who has the disadvantage then?
Regardless of the situation, I don't see PlanetSide 2 for PC starting to be dumbed down. Its been developed for and released on PC first, so you can stop worrying about it being a console port. If it ever makes it to a console, it will be a PC>console port. Doing it otherwise from here forward simply doesn't make any economic sense, and Sony isn't exactly flush with cash right now.
The only negative side effect if SOE making a console version of PS2 that I see is the allocation of developer time away from fixing bugs and polishing content to re-creating the current bugs on a console. But long-term, this would only add to the number of voices calling for tighter anti-hacking monitoring, bug fixes, and content expansion, and gives them a bigger financial incentive to make that happen (larger potential and familiar customer base is more easily converted to happy paying customers).
