Everyone, we have been waiting for ps1 to become free to play for a while now. John Smedley has simply put it off for a while. We must tell him on his twitter https://twitter.com/j_smedley that "Hundreds of ppl on the forums want to play ps1 free to play, and are waiting for it" and to tell him that when it goes free to play hundreds if not thousands will log on if he sends emails out to all past ps1 players. He might even need to open up another server.

Send him messages, to give ps1 free to play and that hundreds are waiting to play it for free! Thanks.

If you don't like twitter send him an email, tell him to put ps1 free to play, and that hundreds are wanting to play, they're just waiting for it to be free. He often answers his emails, and is willing to answer them, so send away!

I'd rather see it incorporated as a bonus feature into a subscription for PS2. Free is just going to bring back cheats. Lowered subcost (possibly lower than sub for PS2) is needed though. Can't justify €12,- monthly when PS2 is free.

Have some slot machines in the (upcoming) sanctuaries (or warpgates) where you can play PS1 virtually within PS2. ^_^

But seriously, PS1 deserves better than to be in coma state. Revive this lil' bugger!
I even would arsenal...i mean united for that.

I fear SOE realises that PS1 is a superior game (inferior only in graphics) they gonna bury it. Remember these devs have no clue about PS1 at all. They sucked so bad on that live stream. The gun play is too old skool (sic) for them.

May as well rename the campaign to say "We want to shut down PS1".
Subscriptions are the only thing keeping that game going.

This means it is 100% certain ps1 is going free to play. It could be weeks, months, but most likely a year from now.

Sure they will, I have seen so many people throughout the years say, that "if it was free to play I would play it." Especially if they put it on steam like they have with ps2. You can actually download ps2 from steam which is cool, they would most likely do that too with ps1.

You underestimate the draw of F2P. It's been used to revitalize many old games with a new influx of players, especially MMO's.

I have never played PS1 but I would certainly go and try it if it was made F2P.

But again, they CAN get it on Steam by packaging it with PS2...

You kidding me man? They have Counterstrike 1.6 on there, it was made in 1999. Counterstrike Source was made in 2004, and Planetside in 2003. They should more then be able to put this game out there.

With all the PS2 spam, I can't find the original post, but yeah, Steam at some point apparently changed the acceptance rules on that.

This is why you will never see it go f2p. SOE knows that if the larger PS2 population sees this game people will be up in arms about their watered down version of PS.

I don't want PS1 tied to the current pixelated dung heap they tried to pass off as a sequel.

SOE is a big enough company to keep a server up and running for planetside without tying it to the current one.

Ironmole, I personally know two dozen former players that would jump in if they didn't have to shuck 15 bucks a month out of their wallets.

Expecting a re-release of an old game to get 800k players on 1 server is a bit optimistic. Thousands is more realistic.
