UPDATE: My second article (http://themittani.com/features/crowd-control-how-exploit-zerg)just got released. Feel free to upvote it (http://www.reddit.com/r/Planetside/comments/16o7uj/guide_how_to_deal_with_zergs/) if you like it :-)
How Eve Online Secured Planetside 2's Future (http://themittani.com/features/how-eve-online-secured-planetside-2s-future)
A few months ago, I discovered this theMittani.com website. I liked the quality of the content and thanks to these forums and the heated "PS2-should-be-more-like-PS1" discussions, I got inspired to submit an article for it.
I do not have any writing background and I'm not even native English so I was kinda surprised that it not only got published, this Mittani guy (most Eve Online players should have heard of him) actually added me to the writer staff and challenged me to crank out some more.
Who knows, I'm not sure what and if more will come out of it but if you have ideas you want to see published, I'm open to it.

Cool story, although I never played eve so I can't really relate to it.

Cool! I've been playing EVE since shortly after release and I even started a PlanetSide fan Corp in game (now long since abandoned), and, like you, ran into The Mittani's site not too long ago and was impressed. The front page was essentially a list of all the games I'm into... EVE of course, Mechwarrior Online (which I've also been beta testing), League of Legends, Star Citizen, and PS2.
Obviously Smed is a big fan of EVE and of course PlanetSide can learn a lot from the game, which has managed to mature very gracefully over the last decade... but there are also a lot of things it definitely shouldn't do.
In any case, great article. I have always loved both games and it's always interested me how those two very different games seem to attract a lot of the same people.

nice article there, man! Would you mind if I translate it into Chinese then post it on a forum beyond the ocean? Of course I`ll label its place of origin ;)

fantastic article man! i love, respect, and agree from where you are coming from. Minecraft has always kept me interested because of the constant updates and changes, and it is always nice to see what they have in-store. and PS2 using this is a great idea. i can't wait until it has turned into PS1 on steroids, this will please all vets and fans alike. show this article to the haters or the doubters and there concerns will disappear. very interesting take on things.

Good article.
How did you get it published? Just sent it to the editor on spec? Or did you have an "in" ?
just curious...

Interesting article. Kind of short in terms of content but it gets the point across.
More development on that topic in the future ?

Good article.
How did you get it published? Just sent it to the editor on spec? Or did you have an "in" ?
just curious...I didn't have an "in" and I never played with Goons in Eve.
I just used the contact form on their site and pasted in my article. At some point I got an email that out of 22 essays, mine got selected.
The Mittani then called me on Skype to say that I was hired and set up/talked me through my staff account so I could publish the article. It was a bit confusing tbh as my intention was only to submit a one-off article, so I refused any monthly salary. It turned out that my article submission happened to be as they where just hiring new writers, making me look as one of the applicants :D
So I probably will get "fired" soon but who knows, I might actually get the inspiration and submit more articles :-)
Btw just to be sure, I love SOE and the article is an opinion, not a fact. I get a lot of down votes atm on reddit (http://www.reddit.com/r/Planetside/comments/14lo73/the_evil_future_of_planetside_2/)from people that obviously didn't get this.

Nice arcticle. I hope SOE does live up to what the article suggests because I have friends that have played EVE since the game came out and they ALWAYS go back to it once they are bored of the current FOTM MMO.

Great article I really like how it's written.
However a few points:
Wasn't CCP in trouble of closing its doors? I thought despite the loyal fanbase they had declining revenue.
I know they also caught a lot of flack for releasing their cash shop.
My guess this is pro ably in part for those users that were allowed to pay for their memberships with in game currency. Great for the consumer but doesn't pay the bills.
Just some food for thought for a very well written article.

Cool! Thanks Rolfski. Nice to know that even in these tough times some lucky people can still get jobs by accident!:eek::eek:
And don't worry about Reddit - hardly an impartial place to be heard in, is it?

Wow, already the most popular article on the site. I guess your Chinese readers are bringing in the numbers, lol :D
Anyway, thanks a lot for all the support guys. Really encouraging for a noob writer like me :-)

My first article ended up being the most read article of December so I thought I give it another shot :)
http://themittani.com/features/crowd-control-how-exploit-zerg
It's a guide on how to deal with zergs. It's based on a topic I started here (http://www.planetside-universe.com/showthread.php?t=51604) so I want to thank everybody who contributed to the discussion :-)

Great article I really like how it's written.
However a few points:
Wasn't CCP in trouble of closing its doors? I thought despite the loyal fanbase they had declining revenue.
They opened additional studios and started developing Dust 514 and World of Darkness Online on the revenues of Eve... yeah they stretched themselves a bit thin.
I know they also caught a lot of flack for releasing their cash shop.
$80 monocles will do that...
My guess this is pro ably in part for those users that were allowed to pay for their memberships with in game currency. Great for the consumer but doesn't pay the bills.
You are buying the gametime from another user who paid cash for it . CCP gets paid regardless. (think of buying a 1month sub token for SC and then selling it to another player for 5k cert points)
Just some food for thought for a very well written article.
yep...

He already stated english is not his first language. It's the editor's fault for not catching that.

Nice article, reminds me that there is another outlook to PS2. The negativity can get to you sometimes (not that people aren't making valid points).
I agree to being a little more patient and supportive.
Congrats, keep 'em coming.

"The whole idea of Planetside 2 has always been to release a Battlefield 3 on crack and then turn it into a Planetside 1 on steroids over time."
I think this sums up PS2 perfectly Rolfski. It is how I feel about the game too. I have always been a fan of the Battlefield Series and I always wished they would make a game more like Planetside, then Sony went and did it first.
I love PS2. I think it is the best FPS shooter out there by a very large margin. The fact that it is set in my old stomping grounds of Auraxis and has so much that I feel is even better than PS1 makes me happy.
I have yet to have a bad night playing PS2 and i have been playing since Tech Test.
Highly specualtive but nice to read. Good job!
