So. Originally planetside 2 was just going to be a visual upgrade, along with some other upgrades to planetside 1. Because they went with the sequal idea before they came out with any details of this I am assuming that it would be moved F2P with a cash shop, cosmetic upgrades, EXP boosts and etc.


Seeing how PS2 turned out, would you still want a revamp of planetside 1, or are you satisfied with what SOE did with planetside 2?


Personally. The only problem I have is the lack of continents and the problems that go with that. One of the reasons they only released 3 is because they made the point that the entirety of these conts will be used, Which is true compaired to the standard of planetside 1's battle transition(base,field,base) now its Base, field, tower, base, outpost. Its more varied. which is good.

The Global lattice system where you could lock continents and force fights on others set up a sort of "territory progression" system which gave a purpose to battles. push others back to their sanctuary. With the in-ablitly to actually lock continents winning one feels pointless. (the 10% reduction in the already next to useless resource system does not cut it)

Sony has released a shooting game with decent at best FPS gameplay, they did not finish planetside yet.

I think that lack of variety in class mechanics compared to 'build your own' class in PS1 is one of the biggest things missing in PS2 so far.
They aren't stopping at the 3 continents they have now, the ones in PS1 were really bare bones compared to the ones in PS2. I'm excited to see what they change on the existing continents and add to the game with the 'revamped' versions of PS1 geography in PS2 continents.


Overall, I'm happy with the sequel. I feel right now the big things that need to change are:
- The flicker bug needs to go.
- The collision with friendly units in the warpgates need to go, as well as collision with vehicles in the first 5 seconds after spawning them.
-Friendly damage from being run over by vehicles needs to be reduced to just getting hit by the front or rear of vehicles. When they are moving more than 20km/h then they can do damage, not before.

The rest they will take care of as the game goes. I would like to see the Lattice system on an 'old' PlanetSide 1 continent. With the old bases only newer. That would be very cool. Just to see how the lattice system fares in PS2 climates.

I am overall very happy with the sequel and can't wait to see what the devs have in store for us :)

As a PS1 beta tester and long time player of it I am absolutely perfectly happy with the way that PS2 has turned out.

I know that there's allot of complaining about how people are having graphic issues etc..... but to date I've had none.....although there might be a small memory leak that forces me to log in and out every couple of hours or so.

As previously mentioned in another thread the gaming market has changed and with it the player base has evolved to become more casual.

As such coding of games has changed and PS2 is a worthy successor to PS1 in every way.

There's no real point about commenting on 'how Planetside 2 has turned out' because it's still a very long way from being finished.

It's a shooter now but not as layered as it's going to be. Maybe in one year's time a retrospective like this would be relevent, but not right now.

I never played PS1 but I totally agree with this. There is no feeling of wining in PS2.

PS2 is fun to play short term. With that I mean it looks really cool, the combat is fun when you're in the heat of everything. But PS2 really lack anything that can considered longterm fun. After I have logged out for the day there is nothing in the game that motivates me to login and play to morrow. In fact as I know that all the progress I did with my outfit will be lost 5 minutes after we log out the lack of strategic game play makes me feel a sting of unwillingness to log in the next day because wining or loosing does not matter.... nothing matters.

I played Pirates of the Buring Sea when it came out... The faction war game mechanics was not that different from PS2 when it come to you won a port battle and you lost one and every thing just moved on. But what PotBS did was to add a faction war progression bar and the faction that got X points first won and get a bush of in game items as a reward.

Say that your faction gets 10 points for locking a continent then 5 points for every hour they manage to keep the lock and the first faction that got to 10.000 points won. And every one that have a char in the wining faction would get 750 cert points. The top 10% of the player base that contributed most to the win would also get an achievement medal. Just a little thing like that would go a long way in making PS2 allot more fun to play longterm. At least for me. I would feel allot more motivated to continue playing the game that's for sure.

Im happy with how it turned out, I personally dont think a graphically updated game would have done well and the subscription model would have been the death of this game.

Well for you guys that dont know, PS2 is going to keep going if its anything like PS1. PS1 started off pretty much the same, the game was the basics and then as time went along Dev's listened to the players and added things that the majority wanted. To me PS1 was just an awsome game. PS2 feels the same, except this time the start off is alot smoother and looking at some of the things to come its just going to get better.

People say that they want this finish, or meta, or feeling of winning but they have to realize PS2 isnt going to give you that. There is more to it than just a big sparkle of letters saying you win, to me there is the sence of accomplishment. (Example) two weeks ago, we locked (somewhat) Esimer, I remember we were fighting the NC and with half the PLT, and holding them in there santuary. I remember the leader for the nights event tellling us to look at our maps and when I did we finally owned it all. I was like cool, M.A.P. turning the world purple one continent at a time. It was awesome, I remember logging off and going to bed satified. The next day I logged on and of course we didnt have Esimer anymore but knowing we took it and was looking forward getting some stuff accomplished today. To me fighting other outfits for control of a base, this is the real test, I remember a tower we were trying to defend, now the zerg was no were around, but there was about 23 of us and about 27 of them and this fight was epic I think it lasted about 2hrs taking points and we both threw tatics at each other, the battle was going back and forth. This is what reminded me why I like this game so much. I hope that when they ad more continents and merge the servers I get to fight against more of these outfits that are just as skilled and tactical as mine.

If PS2 isn't "going to give you that" in some forseeable future it will become a BIG problem.

Or, to put it (slightly) exaggerated: The framework for a fantastic game is there, they just need to build the actual game onto it. :love:

No one wins in Planetide. Until they release more conts then `locking`a cont will be how you win. Its endless war and its fantastic. I fail to see an issue myself with the game not having an end mode. I had a great session yesterday , played for about 10 hours or so and never got bored. The massive fights are what keeps me going and getting loads of kills.

But back on topic, like what was said they had to update the mechanics to a more modern shooter. But i`d of still liked the original to be updated with these modern mechanics. The Free To Play nature of the game has forced them into the class system imo to make more money selling weapons/decals etc.. I think if it was a sub based game (maybe not as much as before) you would be able to have the old loadout system of the original.

"But that would mean one man armies!" i hear you ask......... Well, you wait and see once people have unlocked all certs in PS 2. We defo will have one man armies then, for sure it will be a similiar problem.

So basically your saying you want a pay out for capturing a continent, is that what you guys mean by Meta or end game. Unlike most FPS your not going to get a black screen and a message saying your team won. I mean compared to most FPS you tell me what do you get when you win a match.

For me I look at the cert points ive collected that night, and im feeling pretty good. Running with my outfit and wooping up on the zerg, or some enemy outfit that night, this is my meta. I see alot of outfits out there and these guys are the challenge. Last night on Amerish (Woodman) in our fight to lock it, we went up against some NC outfit outside there Santuary, and for a while there I thought we werent going to be able to hold it, this was my end game locking that continent. But its not always about that, I log in and me and my european buddys have a lot of fun they make fun of me being american and I make fun of there spots of tea :D.

Well, by "meta game" i allways think about stuff to do that is not "shooting someone in the face", unfortunately just as "end game" there are no true definitions, therefore everyone has his/her own idea of what it is.

For me; Meta game = RTS elements, basically

And that is why i replied to you that planetside will need something more to do or it will become lonely on auraxis.

As for the "payout", yeah i think that should be handled differently than it is now. Not necessarily a "bigger payout" but rather something useful your factions wants to have (and -10% resource cost is not something your faction "really wants").
Conquering a continent (and in the end, all of auraxis) should be by definition THE main goal of this game, i think it should therefore be the most rewarding thing to achieve...which it is not.

Well here are some Ideas for pay out for certain accomlishments. Some are already implemented.

1. Killing other faction - xp
2. Taking enemy base - xp
3. Taking continents - Certs (If you on continent when it is locked 10 to 50 certs. This would be cool.
4. Kill streak - bonus xp,
6. Multi kill - double xp

I mean alot of players will want more, but for me and most people I play with are PS2 Fans, were getting more then enough. But if SOE wants to keep some of the newer players interested there gonna have to come up with somthing bigger to satisfy or motivate players to wanna spend money and fight for the next base.
