View Full Version : Hackers are back

Just ran into a new hack I haven't seen before.

Previous hacks I've personally witnessed were aimbots, this dude had an invul hack. I went back a few times to verify and he indeed had one.

Considering the rhetoric of recent bans, saying verifiable proof, then unbans makes me believe Sony has no power against hackers other than mass reporting. Boggles my mind really.

Hackers will always be an ongoing business in a game like this, a hunt that will never end, unfortunetely.

So yea, Reporting to get their attention. then they got tools to investigate.

Were you on Mattherson? It just crashed, and before it did some people were invulnerable. One of the many symptoms of a server crash.

No. This was a br3 player on a different server who didn't glitch, warp, nothing. Just no damage taken.

It was pretty barren, just a few people around on this outpost so I can imagine hackers can now flourish if they're smart and avoid the one and only zerg on the continent, since hardly anyone is around to report them.

that defeats the purpose of hacking in planetside 2, bro.

hackers were drooling over the prospect of killing hundreds of people. if they have to resort to sneaking around at some remote outpost their chief goal is already defeated.

discreet cheating ruins the fun of cheating.

the fun in cheating in planetside 2 is trolling hundreds of players at a time. not going to some remote outpost, turn down the aimbot acuracy so you die occasionally as to not look too suspicious. thats not fun.

Meh... it is game jargon. Hacker = cheater using hacks in the video game slang. sure there are better and proper definitions but trying to change the way the word is thrown around is pointless.

Band-aid = elastic bandage no matter the brand
Kleenex = Tissue paper no matter the brand
Hacker = cheater no matter the lack of knowledge of programming.

So did we ever find out why all the drones/GM's went?
Have they thrown in the towel?

SOE was quick to trumpet the mighty system they had devised to combat the cheats.
Now its gone quiet.

Are they actively doing anything about it now?

What are you expecting to hear from them? Anything more than "we're actively working on it" might compromise their solution. Even seemingly small details can give hackers enough information on how to tailor a specific cheat to reduce their chances of being detected. Seriously, sometimes less is more when it comes to giving out info about security/hacking. If you want to catch a robber, you don't tell him when you're going to be home and how you've set up the security system at your house.

I saw two hackers over the course of the last two days.

I saw a new one, a speed hacking z-axis hacker. I couldn't help but laugh watching him fly around, up and down, even going under the world.

Come on Sony. It's getting pathetic. All that rhetoric means nothing if they're still around and they are in greater frequency it seems like. Just not as many people playing to complain compared to a month ago.

Build something already that at least auto detects these people without us having to manually report them. It's not our job to police your game; the burden is on you. If not, it's just another reason, amongst many other reasons, people stop playing.

I'm keeping an eye on one obvious cheater and one blatant team killer in Briggs through planetside universe to see if they get back online.
So far I have not seen either get back online as of yet but it could be due to the holidays.

Most likley a bug.

Well, the last one I just saw on Connery a few minutes ago was a guy who could literally fly around. No glitching, just god-mode speed hacker. Probably aimbot, too.

Last night another hacker was on Waterson.

Beerbeer Ive had some weird glitches where vehicles would seem to flip and then partially sink into the ground. When I climbed up onto what was apparently a ghost vehicle my teammates said that I was floating in the air. Maybe this was happening.

Beerbeer
2012-12-25, 10:46 PM
No, I can tell the difference pretty well between glitches and hacks. This guy was flying around very distinctly and very quickly as a heavy assault, shooting tanks from above.

It was so obvious and blatant, he knew people would report him (and kind of funny, too) but I get the sense that even if he is banned, he'll be back since there's nothing to deter them.

I got video on maybe 2 hackers so far. One Im not certain of was someone as a dead TR skidding around within and around a NC spawn room then turning into a NC infiltrator the moment my LOS was broken. The other was a flying speed hack but I hit the record button to late and got a very little glimpse of him flying off.

Both times I got a name, yet haven't reported till I get the proof online. It's hard for me to read names in gameplay and my typed words are just horrid without spending a LONG time writing and rereading them a few times over. So I need to pause a video to make certain I get the spelling right.

I have been accused of having a health script?, I hotdropped onto a tower and started shooting a VS max nearly took him out but didnt.
Got a TELL saying "im reporting you for that", I asked, "what"? he then said about the health script.
Just wondering when you drop are you invunrable for a few seconds?

Are you sure it wasn't the MAX health bug? Did they fix that? I haven't seen anyone doing it in a long time. I remember a certain guy on my servers top10 leaderboards was using it exclusively and it was very frustrating.

Game is still buggy as hell, and we had bugs that you would think someone is cheating.

Self repairing magrider on the move/during fight. No it was no sundy around. Gunner was getting repair exp as if he was outside repairing.

VS spawned with appearance of TR light assault, running unharmed in VS spawn room. VS get grief for shooting at him, and he was ressable by VS.

With those bugs you cant blame every weird stuf on hackers.

I'm going to stop using /report on anything other than TKs now.

It is increasingly hard to work out whether someone is cheating or there is a bug.

Some examples I've reported but later found to be a bug:

Invulnerability - Serverside issues
Enemies not rendering but killing me - Draw distance reduces down to a few meters for some infantry
People floating in the air - Related to their connection
People who can see your cloak clearly - An implementation issue
Permanent AA lock - A server side bug
Delayed damage often resulting in your vehicle spontaneously exploding 10 mins after a dogfight - Serverside bug
Blinking enemies - The game has no packet loss or ping cap
AA max still doing damage despite not rendering on my screen - intended feature

There are also several vehicle issues that appear to be bugs but are being done by high BR players - which I cannot test without creating a char on a different faction and certing up a vehicle - something I'm obviously not going to bother doing.

The entire system is broken, because I'd wager 50%+ of /reports are erroneous or are for TKs - They offer no distinction between these, yet they require completely different actions behind the scenes.

They need to set out a number of reason labels for /report such as:

Hack - An obvious game augmenttion - needs a ban
TK - Blatant and repeated TK of resources and players - needs a ban

Bugged - Suspect or weird behaviour like super high ping - not a priority
Unknown - Something is just wrong - a GM with free time may want to spec this player

Until now I have only seen speedhacking (movement as well as firing speed). Even have this on video.
In terms of invul I only encountered an unmanned Vanguard which we were unable to damage and one infantry player which did not move and despawned after a while, so at least this one was most likely a bug.

I've seen people fly around in my own outfit due to some sort of network lag/server issue. One of them was flying a prowler about 30' above the ground and spinning around.

I've seen a lot of the desync guys, however there is a new one I've noticed. People have been teleporting, as opposed to speedhacking. Unfortunately for the individual I found doing it at Peris he teleported to high and fell to his death. I've seen two different NC doing is lately, both low rank. I guess they don't have active admins over weekends?
I've also seen more guys "blinking" in and out, I don't know if they're doing it on purpose but a TR max ran around and killed like 40-50 people doing it because no one could hit him. He had to know something was up considering the length of time he was doing it and how long he lived solo against so many enemies.

JPUK
2012-12-26, 10:01 AM
The problem with blinking is plausible deniability. As with all induced packet-loss cheats the only way to fix it is lock out everyone with a high ping or bad connection. If SOE felt this was a good idea I think they'd have done it already. :(

Theres a hacker VS side on Connery who keeps popping up and we keep reporting that person. They keep showing up with different name variations and its pretty obvious they're hacking. They have absolutely perfect tracking and aiming. Shooting at them causing them to instantly snap and gun down anyone in less than a fraction of a second.

It's really depressing to see these people constantly roll new alts and play. It's also impossible to get the drop on this person. We tried to rush a building which we knew they were in, but they just popped at the window and gunned us all down as we ran from one building to the next in a less than two seconds.

I've only seen two potential cheaters. One was beyond obvious, first was he was using an aimbot and defending a biolab all by himself... then he started using a speedhack which made him look like a speeding bullet. He wasn't getting many kills that way but he was impossible to stop.

The great thing about PS2 is that even if 10% of the people are cheating, there's a TONE of places to go where they aren't. In BF3 if only 10% of the people are cheating the game is ruined... heh for that matter if 1 person on a server is cheating it ruins the game.

I don't even remember what the second person was doing... it just wasn't that memorable and being able to simply leave them 5KM behind you is wonderful!

Just editing to see if my signature will get added.

One of them was spamming "Enemy Sunderer Spotted" 24/7 when there was very clearly nothing around. That was really annoying.

Why so quick to discount someones experiences? I see blatant hackers every 3rd or 4th battle on Briggs. Though, Briggs is much more hacker infested than the US servers I play on, i've only seen 2 or 3 hackers on Mattherson/Connery.

FYI by "blatant hackers" I don't mean laggers, and I don't mean bugs. I mean people who teleport into the spawn room and kill your entire team, people speedhacking with 100 round mag weapons and killing 10 people in 5 seconds, etc etc. The type of hacker that immediately results in 20 people all /yelling "anyone see that hacker?"

Hell there's an entire outfit of hackers on TR Briggs who have been banned multiple times and they keep coming back.

I'm not talking about purely suspicious behaviour like 3x headshots with a gauss saw the second you come into line of sight from 200m away, if I added in the people like that who only aimbot rather than using "ragemode" it would be much more than one every 3 or 4 fights.

Until playing this game I always used to laugh at people who threw out hackusations like they were nothing, but now I feel like maybe they were right. Maybe hacking really is this rampant? Or maybe it's just because the game is f2p and has lots of people for them to kill.

I've seen four or five verifiable hackers in first person, with my own eyes. Is that a lot? Probably not, but i have posted about each one as I feel it's a serious issue. I do play a lot and I try to pay attention to everything, so who knows.

I've seen countless bugs, glitches and other anomalies that I can comfortably discount as not being hacks. I rarely post about them.

What's sad is that most of the ones I've seen were so blatant, they knew people would mass report them. That's probably why I spotted them in the first place. On the other hand, I'm sure there are more hacks out there, used by not so belligerent players who are showing contempt by being so blatant that are getting by unnoticed. The only reason I suspect this is by the number of blatant cheats I've seen. Extrapolate and do the numbers for yourself.

It's not a health hack, it's a hit registration bug for maxs. I get it all the time when I run my dual mercy max ai as a tr. Bullets will look like they are hitting but not register and while you (the max) are shooting useless bullets, your are taking massive damage from a guy who should have been dead seconds ago. I've reported it at least a dozen times.

2012-12-26, 03:08 PM
In regards to the first post, yes it was some type of invulnerability. No, he wasn't a max, but a light assault.

Yes, I verified by coming back twice, in all but one of the cases, I snuck up behind him and grenaded, shot, strafed, etc., just to make sure he took massive amounts of damage. Then he proceeded to kill me (I let him instead of trying to run away). I even tried to prolong the encounter in the last two events. In all of the cases, it was just him and a few others and myself. He took no damage unless the kill window was bugged for those three encounters.

I left after that. I went and found another person in another base and repeated the process, allowing him to kill me after I shot him a few times (instead of trying to outright kill him, which I could have), and sure enough the kill window was accurate to see if it was bugged.

This is a big curse of being free to play. Without hardware bans there's no way to remove a hacker for longer than 10 minutes. All it takes is an temp email and you have a new account with 3 new toons. Nothing I know of to stop someone from stocking up of accounts either.

Great game, just needs a team of 3 admins per server with power over temp/perma hardware bans 24/7. 1 admin for each faction on each server. Without that then no free to play game will be safe.

Beerbeer

Well, the invul hack was one thing, and not so obvious unless you really pay attention and/or it's crowded.

Now last night, holy cripes, this guy was blatant. Maybe he was just testing it out, I have no idea, but he was flying around like superman. Hovering in air, shooting rockets at vehicles. I even watched him fly straight below the earth and reappear later. Not only was his flight movement a sight to behold, but he was flying around faster than an esf and could instantly stop, hover and shoot at will.

He knew he was going to get caught. Even his empire mates were yelling in chat about him and most of them even left as he was pretty much a one man army. I logged out after watching him for twenty minutes to see if admin was on or cared. Nope.

I wish more devs and people with power played the actual game.
This turd was in game for about 8 solid hours, reported probably 2,000 times by NC, TR, and even the VS he was carrying / stealing kills from.
