View Full Version : My Kid is ruining my K/D!

So, I keep on checking my K/D and wondering why it's never really improving. Most sessions I have at least a 2:1 ratio, yet my over all K/D is like 1.3 or something. I let my son make his own character(he is 8) just to fart around with. So I'm sitting in the kitchen and I think he is playing his TR character. Then he comes in and says "Dad, how do I switch to rockets when I fly?" I tell him he can't because his character doesn't have it. He says, "well...I'm playing on WarChimp." I run out to check and the little bastard has a 1:10 K/D! He says he likes to play my character because it has cooler stuff.

I know, it's just stats, who cares, but I like to try and keep an accurate track of how I'm doing. Kept wondering why it seemed like no matter how good I was going it wouldn't budge. Guess he just wants to play like his pop, lol.

SOE has said they will make your unlocks account wide (if his char is on the same account) this will help you out. No ETA yet though.

I find my K:D goes south when I play engineer.

My daughter is 4. She saw me playing PS2 (though I try not to let her catch me doing anything violent) and really wanted to play.

So I taught her that the blue bubble is the safe place the bad guys can't get her and that W is for Walk and makes my guy walk. I showed her all the classes and she wanted to be the "fixer guy" (thanks Bob The Builder) so she spent an hour or so walking around the warpgate fixing tanks and such.

Obviously she has a hard time figuring out what is damaged and what isn't (though I taught her to go straight for anything that is smoking) and she gets stuck on stuff a lot (jumping while moving forward eludes her), and of course Electrofreak got run over a lot ("Daddy why do the trucks keep smushing me, I'm trying to fix them?!") but she had a lot of fun, and I got a few hundred XP out of the deal.

Yeah, he keeps asking why I won't buy him things on his character and I keep telling him to wait a little while. That and he likes to delete and remake his character all the time. I just didn't realize he had been logging on my character to use all the fun toys, though I guess it makes sense.

The most useless stat in the game, K/D ratio (aka, how good are you at NOT playing the objective or as a team) now even torns families apart. Sad that this game has become this far.

I wouldn't worry about your K/D ration for real man. Just last night there was a major stalemate at a base, I don't remember the name of it, started with a P though. I'm TR and we were trying to conquer it, seemed like it was about 20 minutes or so that we couldn't make it into the control room without getting slaughtered. Then me a friend and decided to bust in with some MAXes at the same time. We both died of course, but we took people with us, and at the same time scattered some VS players that were defending. Shortly after the TR took that control point.

I'd like to think it was because of two people that charged in and scattered the defense enough that it allowed the TR to take over the control point.

The game isn't all about killing if you care about objective stuff. Sometimes even the smallest amount of teamwork can change the tide of a stalemate. [/U][/I] Sometimes you just gotta do what's good for the team.

Ok, requsting it now, we need a comic of a four year old girl in NC-garb running around the Warpgate with a Glue-gun!

Lol, I'm just trying to figure out how else I can put her to work earning me certs while I'm at the office. Hell, all I need to do is get her into an HE tank and tell her to click on the red triangles, and I'm willing to bet she'd hold a > 1:1 K/D ratio! :p

But yeah, NC on Mattherson, if you ran over Electrofreak in the NC warpgate on Esamir a few days back, you ran over a 4-year old girl. I hope you feel good about yourself.

Seriously though, she was really distressed about it the first time. "Ohhh nooo Daddy he's dead! He got smushed! Ohhh nooooo!" Then I showed her how she can click the big green button and he comes back. She was amazed.

Oh and tonight when I tucked her in to bed, she told me that in the morning she was going to eat healthy food so she could grow up big and strong like the blue guy with the really big armor. Awww, she wants to be a MAX suit operator when she grows up, that's my girl!

Probably not appropriate in light of recent events but because of that I let my 6yr old nephew do what ever he wanted to do this weekend and he wanted to play PS2 instead of just watching me.
I was just as happy watching him play as he was playing it, K/D means nothing.

My daughter is 7 and she LOVED to drive around in PS1 in the harasser. She heard me talking in vent and wanted me to tell people not to shoot here when she pulled a buggy from somewhere on Cyssor in the middle of a battle.

She's driven a bit in PS2, but mostly in Beta, she drove off cliffs quite regularly.

I set-up global agenda on two comps and we played the desert together. It was funny finding a class for her. She liked "the one I can put the box down to shoot for me". I let her run around in the VR for a bit on her own (muted of course) and when I came back there were some questions in chat like "is Wahooo drunk or playing on a touchpad?"

I think it's just important that kids have a healthy understanding of reality versus fantasy.

I was very sheltered as a child, and as a result, when I got into my early adulthood, I craved violence in video games. Sheltering me from violence as a child obviously didn't work. I don't plan on sheltering my daughter, but I also don't want to make light of killing.

It's kind of difficult to explain the entertainment we get from playing war, but how terrible the loss of life in reality is. I guess what I'm going to do is that stress in my video games, nobody actually dies. When someone's life is taken in reality, it's a terrible thing.

Sorry, don't mean to be a Debbie Downer on this thread all of a sudden, but it's been something I've been thinking about as a parent.

My son used to gun outfit members mags when he was 7 but usually just shot everything that moved. Now he is 13 and for xmas he gets a laptop so will be playing ps2

I agree with electro its so hard to explain the difference between a game and reality

Not sure K/D should be included in our shiny new signatures or at least allow the stats shown to be customizable. It would be cool to see how many medic revives done or assist exp gained rather than overall k/d/exp farm.

I like that idea, if someone plays a medic all day, they're not gonna want to show off their 0.X KDR, but if they could show 5k revives lol, that be badass. :)

Of course not. But every game ever made is about becoming better at it. K/D is one of the better stats to see how you are improving. But your K/D is just interesting to you as only you know how your playing and there for only you know what the stats are showing.

Blynd

I see the k+a/d as a more useful stat then straight k/d
Cause if tou are running a ligtening or gunning a mag you may not get the kill the majority of the time but you may have done the majority of the damage.

Same goes for stale mates in bases sometimes you just have to rush a room to see where people are so you can go back and get them out rather them sitting there waiting for someone else to do it cause you don't want to die

I prefer to keep my K/D low via "Sunderer-Sucide-Repair"-Action

Spawn, repair, get certs, die. Spawn, repair, get certs, die.

I wish I had some kind of slave to do this when I am at work.

Best. Cert. Gain. Ever.

And I have the "Mostly Harmless" perk skilled that way as well.

so my 6 year old nephew was watching me play and wanted a turn so i let him roll around with my mag. Explained that he just shoots at the red triangles etc... he was doing well so i went to the kitchen to make us some lunch when i came back "Uncle Evan why can't i shoot anymore" i look down and try to figure it out and discovered what he was atacking. So i asked him what he was attacking before it stopped firing "well there were no red triangles so i started shooting the frisbee's" "Frisbee's?" "yeah the ones that look like me".... i quickly made him his own account.

I like to go aound healing and reviving people, so I've maxed out my med tool for full health revives.

When not a medic, I pull an AMS sundy (with ammo refill for vehicles) and deploy it on the front line. I'll always stay with my sundy to make sure it stays up, letting my squad/platoon go in and get the kills/take the points.

K/D means bugger all in a game like PS2, and I rarely look at that stat.

Cute kid stories though, I'm sure my 6 year old nephew would love playing it :)

It really is fun :). PS2 is the only FPS that they are allowed to play and they only get to play when I'm with them. This is also the game that they're playing on the PC and they really dig it.

I'm gonna have to build some new rigs for them soon since currently they are playing on my laptop and the desktop that I originaly built for PS1 back around the time that they were born .

Cute story. This is a funny thread.

But yeah as was already mentioned k/d is not realy saying how good you are at PS2. Yesterday i've met a 1 k/d player and thought hes best player i played with and was way better than me at this game, constantly making quick good decitions. I've managed to learn a few things from the guy. [mine is 2.3 something with engi]

Settle down Mox. You don't get to decide how everybody should play the game. If K/d makes them happy that's perfect. If they want to play the game like you (and me really) then go for it.

To all those who try to max their K/D out with out any napharious play

To all who have a problem with them. I just want to remind you how unimportant you are.

Disclamer: This is not directed at people who have a negative opinion on K/D, just the dueche bags who tell people to leave or shut up because they care about their K/D.

Oh if only the rest of the NC zerg of Briggs thought the same as you. Then we might actually cap a big base and have resource income of more than 15!

Too often I find that our little outfit leads the charge only to find that the front rank of the zerg is thinking "oh noes! My shield just got damaged. I'd better run and hide. Bugger the cap point, my KDR might suffer"
