Details are sketchy on what this is exactly but it seems to be just some sort of popularity contest culminating in highlighting exactly what PlanetSide 2 shouldn't be highlighted for.

On the one side ; it seems like a very good marketing/publicity campaign for planetside which is exactly what it needs right now but on the other side .

You are completly right this does not represent planetside well at all .

Maybe TB a bit by the fact that he is a vet but even so this is not what planetside is all about .

It's good to criticize but it's also good to appreciate what you have in common (or not) and what is attributable to our funneled perception of a universe much larger than us.

IMO, good for them if the initiative works. If it does not, at least they tried. And if it's stupid, they will not be the first nor be the last. And if it turns out better than we imagine, good for those involved.

But I gotta say, being lead by Tobuscus seems like fun, even if he's the weirdest of them all. I wish TB luck, I respect him and his viewpoints on games, thanks to him I'm on Planetside 2 in the first place. As for the NC guy, sorry to say I never heard of him, but I'll wish him luck too :)

This sounds like a lot of fun though, and gives three guys a big reason to self inflate their own egos. Just hope the servers can manage, should this get a lot of support.

Faction balance first before promotions.

Gameplay balance first before promotions.

They may lure in alot of new players but all these imbalances will simply enfuriate them.

Faction balance - Overpowered Vanu camps Esamir so they can spam overpowered Magriders. NC and TR leaves for Indar. whoever is losing that fight goes to Amerish. So you got a 3 different faction concentrated on 3 different continents. Then, all 3 factions will switch continents for easy capping on empty bases, rinse and repeat.

Gameplay balance - Air units need to be nerfed or be more expensive. I've never used air units before because I prefer infantry, but these units get too much kills and advantage.

Small/Medium base spawn rooms needs retooling to allow infantry to get out and not get farmed by air or mechanized units as soon as they step out. Give them 3 double-width doors. Open up the roof with shields so players shoot the hoovering aircraft right above the room while their nose is pointing just outside the door.

They can grab all the players they can with these promos but they will simply leave once they realise the game balance is out of whack.

I respect that you guys are vets, but seriously - Wake the hell up.

You should be estatic that your precious game is thrust into the spotlight, I'd assume with a huge budget.
Tobuscus and Seananners are huge on the Youtubes.
They will either create a much larger player base, or at the very least bring in a bunch of newbs for you to kill - Surely you have to let go of your elitist view for a second and see this will greatly benefit PS2.
Sure it's not exactly as you want it.
If they had put some "well known" PS1 vets as the commanders, no one would've given a shit. Outside of you guys no one would know who they are, how would that garner the game attention?

I'd go so far to say whoever thought of this, and the chosen commanders is borderline genius in the marketing world, and deserves a fat pay rise.

Honestly I still don't think the game is ready for all this promotion. Server-side the infantry and aircraft rendering needs to be fixed. Client-side needs more optimization, plain old bugfixing and a tutorial is necessary.

Just like they did with releasing on Steam before the game is ready, SOE Is going to blow their wad by attracting new players who will then be put off by a game that's not ready yet and never will try it again.

Frankly I'm ok with this, and it's not just because TB was the whole reason I even heard of Planetside in the first place. From what I've heard, the number one thing that killed PS1 was that SOE failed to advertise the game to people and get them interested in playing it. All three of these guys have massive amounts of subscribers, and the boost to the player count that they could provide will be enormous. Yeah, a good chunk of them will start as a bunch of obnoxious noobs, but then, couldn't the same be said of anyone here when they first started playing?

How do we know if either the VS or NC "leaders" even play PS2? Can we get a stats page for them as proof of play? At least a video (fuck twitter) or something that shows gameplay of them playing PS2.

Im NC and although I like SeaNanner's videos, I can NOT trust him to lead a war without proof of him knowing how to do so. Being good at FPSs or being a very funny guy isn't enough to be in command of an army.

I think it's fair to assume that both the NC and VS need, nay Demand, that their reps prove themselves in battle before being given their ranks. Till then, I choose to question our "leaders" judgement in any form I see fit and to do what I must if I see that they are not fit to lead men to war.

TotalBiscuit, a Brit. PS1 veteran, had one of the first gameplay videos of PS2 on Youtube, makes first impression videos, daily news, maybe a review (rarely), speaks his mind. Also makes great SC2 commentating videos.

Tobuscus, does good (or at least funny for some) music parodies from trailers, makes reviews, and stupid screaming let's plays. Screams all the time.

No offense to Total Biscuit, but declaring him leader of the TR is like declaring George Lucas President of the United States.

I do not think any serious TR outfit on Waterson would regard BRIT as a shining example of anything. I sure as fuck will not participate in this event if it is layed out in a way where it either requires following orders by random self declared "Leaders" or just promotes their personal ego trips. If i wanted that, i could listen to any of the uncounted people that unlocked the /order channel for 100 cert points and that keep yelling at each other in that channel.

Seriously there is no fucking command structure outside of Outfits and Outfit Alliances.

If those 3 dudes take up a role of some sort of host or moderator or commentator, as TB does in his videos, that would be waaaay more appropriate and acceptable.

If they really want some sort of high commander, i would suggest Hamma for the TR, because at least i can respect him and can be sure he would not go on a power trip. But i doubt he would want the job. :p

To be honest I give a ... for magazines reviews these days. Who ever pays most for the commercials wins the reviews.
It is actually an interesting development: I trust more objectivity to someone random on Youtube than I do to someone who works for a games magazine these days.

If a game is bad, but comes from EA - it gets the best magazine reviews anyway. If a good game comes from someone who did not pay enough - it is shred to pieces and gets a 60% rating.

If I see any of these guys on my server more or less anybody who goes out of their way to proclaim their selves the leader of the NC. I will TK them on site till I am weapon locked.

i was thinking of a private nc command comms server where each willing outfit had 1 or 2 present coordinators. it would basically make these guys utterly useless as the people participating would be the actual default leaders of their factions on each server.

im calling the NCA a wash, even though it taught me a few things i needed to refine for an idea like this to work.

From SOE's point of view this gets the game experience out to more people. They don't need us, we already play and most will continue to.

In YouTube subscribers alone SOE has the potential to reach 4,482,650 people just by using these three people regardless of who they are. It WILL bring new people into the game, that we cannot argue.

I think it's a silly PR move but if you look at the numbers you can start to understand WHY they are doing it.

These folks are no commanders, they are mere toys to get more publicity. They have no authority over any faction in the game, nor even a clue.

We already have alliances on several servers. I know Mattherson got a stong VS ally going, same for miller (as i pretty much formed that one.)
I dont give a damn about other servers. I dont play there, i cant affect them at all, nor should i even be able to as i again dont play there. Communications between miller and any other server would be pointless, as we cant actually interact with each other.

Also, there is nothing to participate. What could those "commanders" do? Tell us to attack something? yea, every server is different at any point of the day, so thats impossible. There is nothing those folks can do on a global scale, and this whole event breaks if they bring it down to a server scale and join a specific server. That entire server would yell "GTFO".

Meh, factions are balanced well enough minus NC getting more weapon buffs.
I gotta read up on the hate when fighting magriders, because personally I think they are by far the weakest tank, (One guy in a sundy can solo it, not joking)

Just surprised by how much butthurt there is with who's representing the faction <.< Did some of y'all expect popular movie actors or something? xD Still looking forward to this myself and at the end of the day that's all I care about :)

I like Totalbiscuit but im told his style is Zerg. If this is true then he isn’t what the TR needs. Anyone can win a battle with overwhelming forces but a good leader can take what he has and determine best how to use it to influence the fight/war.

Let me just say that my server is crying out for a good leader! (Zerg tactic or not).

I have followed Totalbiscuit youtube channel for almost 2 years now... And zerg is a bit exaggerated. It's more show up in numbers then rushing in heads on die res and repeat.

Just got on Amerish this morning, and when they finally realise the Terran rush was about to capture it they came back in force.

If the enemy indicator is anywhere near accurate, I estimate the NC had nearly THREE HUNDRED players at time, around half the Continent population, and TWO-THIRD of it was concentrated on two bases...

Since I KNOW the regular Zerg would have spread MUCH farther out then that for easy caps, I can assume the DVS had herded them all to those TWO bases...

It's (loosly called) organized zerg. They still win only due numbers and 'determination'. I know that because Enclave does the same no Mattherson. If one squad is not enough, send a platoon. If one platoon is not enough, send two.

Because bases are not meant to be defensible if you don't have equal or greater number of troops at a base, you can just fall back to not feed them ego and kills.

I had never seen a guy playing that bad. Watching him playing wont foster the wish to play ps2.
I dont think hiring this guy for the celebrity endorsement was a good decision.
