Who knows. There is that homebrew of Star Wars Galaxies floating around out there.

The Smeddler doesn't want PS1 free-to-play though, so he almost certainly wouldn't let any other PS1 content out there.

this would force smed to admit he is wrong and it would show how bad ps2 is when people flock to ps1. id love to do it though, id turn BFRs off as the very first fucking thing i did.

I'm guessing alot of the stuff in there is still used, be it in updated form. Releasing that code publicly would not be good for business.
