Welcome news. I hope the holiday delay gave them a nice, long list of people to kick to the digital curb. Not that it's schadenfreude, or anything.

My god man! This is going to make my day. Can't wait till I see a fair fight again in a big battle. Or to get a chance to defend a base without over half of the defenders vanish.

Yesterday (maybe on Sat) my platoon was going to deny a cont cap for as long as possible by taking an undefended Crown. The moment we got resistance (after all points capped, air covered, and spawn room guarded) a lone jackass crashed every single person there but maybe 5-10. It was a planed crash and timed near perfectly with their counter attack to maximize their numbers against what was left of us.

AWESOME news. Our Band of Bros outfit constantly worked to report this.

woot,
some NC *coughDVS* were just doing it on Esamir on Waterson.

EDIT: I really hope they ban the guys who admitted to it that are rank 100. Just because they're a vocal member of the community, and the leader of a rather large outfit, shouldn't mean that they don't deserve to be banned as well. *Not talking about Waterson server*

Same just happened twice on Genudine at Peris Amp station. was extremely frustrating.

At least they are easy to tell from a normal crash. If the game is running weird or my FPS is tanking I know that a crash is going to happen. But a no warning freeze is a dead give away of bad doings.

To be honest Im starting to think that some of the lag I see might be some kind of thing as well.
Is lag in PS2 seen as everything moving is jumping and skipping around the map? Not like a small stutter but MASSIVE jumps, skips, and bending/morphing models.

I have video if you want to see it. But it'll take a while to edit, upload, and process.

Is this that crash where all of a sudden units stop dead in mid air etc?

I know they can just create new accounts etc but I'd love to see banned players up on a PS2 wall of shame so we can get a tiny bit of satisfaction in knowing a tiny bit of justice was served.

But I can also see that not happening, might not want to be showing that there were so many.

In any case, gw PS2 team, at least we are back in to action mode.

Banning in this game is pointless.

Sony needs to have some PREVENTION mechanism. There's no excuse as I'm sure many will be back. The hackers are still around.

This is a case of them exploiting a bug - a bug is something that happened unintentionally.

That being said there almost certainly needs to be methods to prevent hacks.

If we could just hang banned cheater avatars from the warpgate with a sign around their knecks describing their crimes then I would be very happy.

What was this crash exactly? Someone would crash everyone on the opposite faction who's inside a base?

I could say the same about VS player that were chain crashing biolab on Amerish to empty it completly and take it without any opposition. Classy isn't it?

Whoever does it, NC-TR-VS, I'll be happy to see them gone. I've seen base being completly empty when there were full platoons defending and attacking. It's a weird feeling and joy wasn't part of it.

I don't think it was necessarily the opposing faction, I think it was just every player in a particular Hex on the map. Mani bio lab is where I seemed to notice it most.

The game only launched weeks ago. This particular crash exploit started about christmas if I remember correctly.

It is. Let's say that it was caused through a combo of coincidence and a popular tactic in the Battlefield games.

It wont happen. Money talks. Just like the last time a certain somebody was banned.

If you knew what the "exploit" or as I would call it, a bug was, you wouldn't be saying outfits were doing it. It was so simple that random people could have been doing it and not even realize it. Nothing to do with a Flash, Sunderer, etc. Hamma, since the patch went out, is it okay to say what caused it? It did have something to do with sound though... I just found out about it last night and I couldn't believe it.

Since it has been patched I don't see any harm in posting it. I heard that it was triggered by 2 C4s stacked on each other, is that true? If yes, then the lulz are on SOE. Still they should ban everyone who did this more than 3 times.

I heard it was something about either a flash, sunderer, and c4. No idea outside of that though.

I just hope it's not something people can do by accident.

It was.

Since it's fixed, I guess it's not a bad thing to post the repro steps

The main way it was being used was putting C4 on a sunderer and raming a C4 laden flash into it, taking care to hit the C4 on the sunderer with the C4 on the flash.

I was able to reproduce it by placing C4 on top of a prox mine and detonating the C4.

I suspect that the general cause it two placeable explosives on top of eachother and detonate (i've always suspected two different explosives). This causes every client in audible range to crash due to too many explosion sounds.

The good thing is something like this is fairly easy to tell if you were accedentally doing it or intentionally doing it. Sundy defender puts a prox mine on the ground and an attacker tries to C4 it, hitting the prox mine? Yeah, that's unintentional. Someone in the middle of a field dropping a prox mine, running back, getting C4, and droping C4 on it? Exploiter.

They do, it's called find out what the players found out, then stop it. Find the hacks and then stop them.

I'm not sure if you've ever built anything from the ground up, but it's not like putting legos together. Stuff happens, stuff breaks, you mod it and go again. And dont' even think to bring the "they should have fixed it before I got it.." crap. This is a prototype game on a prototype engine. Just knowing that you're playing a ground breaking game is worth the cost of admission.. oh wait, it's free

Odd. If C4 and a mine blasting each other made the crash then what about tank shells and C4 or mines?

Maybe the bug came out of testing tank shells against C4/mines and thinking it would be the same for any other combo or explosive. Rather obvious thing in hindsight, but easy to miss from the same point of view.

Odd. If C4 and a mine blasting each other made the crash then what about tank shells and C4 or mines?

I think C4 and mines exist in the game world for everyone like grenades, they are spawned into the map, while tank shells and it's explosions are client-side, just like bullets and rockets.

That's why you can kill with mines, C4, grenades even if they don't render.

Well studies have shown that those types of methods are not really going to stop anyone from committing a crime as criminals don't think they can get caught. That's way death penalties are not more efficient then jail time to prevent some one from committing a crime.

But I would for sure be appeased to see them hang there. More so if it was IRL.

Yeah, I'm on waterson, and my (VS) outfit experienced a synched crash. I was in the next hex, so not affected

I can also confirm me and my outfit mates crashing at the exact same moment in some locations on Indar, on Waterson today. Interestingly, one of my mates was not crashing out and could see all the disconnected friendlies stand in our spawn building.

didn't see hamma's reply til now, but basically as others said, you'd slap c4 onto an armored sunderer right on the plates, and slap c4 onto an atv. you'd then drive the atv straight at the sunderer and cause it to explode. the c4 would then collectively explode and also cause the two vehicles explode. this would overload clients of anyone in the hex, even if they could not actually hear it, they were still receiving this information. this caused the crash.

You can be hardware banned from PS2 / all of SoE (website, all their games, etc.).

Doesn't keep away the serious hackers. But your average exploiter it will.

just happened last night again. I thought they fixed it?

EDIT: To explain further, On Waterson, the NC had cleared out a TR infested tarwich and we were waiting for the base to flip. Then simultaneously our entire outfit DCed. I thought they fixed the bug/exploit/cheat.
