i was thinking(wich is never a good thing;)) wouldnt be cool if each continent had 1 common pool vehicle suited for that certain turrain.like the snow based parts had a snowmobile and ect.
i thought that would be cool
well thats it i gona get back to my sword excorsise

Now this is a good idea
Can't imagine having 20 people jetskiing down
This is a bad idea. This would generalize the use of vehicles too much. One of the goals of planetside is to use a diverse sum of equipment to reach victory. If one kind of vehicle reigned suprme on one kind of continent, then it would totally kill the goal of diversity = victory

that would be cool but then ppl would move the from content to content next thing you know ure snow mobileing in the jungle
I think it would be an excellent add-on. Obviously they would have to be balanced out, something like the basilisk, great handling and speed but armor and/or firepower would be lacking.
That or the common pool vehicles would have slight modifications depending on the environnement. :)

I think varied body armor depending on the climate would be neat, but that's not gonna happen.
Either way, some vehicles are more suited to different terrains. Very rugged terrain is difficult to cross on land, making air travel a much more viable solution. Likewise, relatively flat but densely forested/jungled terrain would reduce the effectiveness of air vehicles. And so on and so forth.

Excellent idea shiro.. :D

Yes, interesting idea. If you take one vehcile, like a buggy/quad. and then when you move to different terrain types, it is automatically modified to be more effective for that terrain. Like better grip on ice, higher armor in open areas, etc...

spike you just said that becouse you dont like me
and what you said isnt true. a way to balance this out would be,for the snowmobile you could give it a lack of armor and fire power so you could have a vehicle thats fast, great great handling and little fire power makeing it a so so choice out of the already huge vehicle list
and these vehicles wer only for certain continents so like someone said snowmobilin through the jungle couldnt happan
srry for my poor grammar;)

If this was true, then they would have to add boats to continents that are half land and half water.....which I would be fine with!:D

what they should do, is just like say a snow continent, take like the wraith or something, and take away the wheels , and add ski things and jet propulsion onto it, and make a few little changes, and make it so u cant have the original wraith on that continent, so it would be like a modified wraith. See? wouldnt that be kewl? or just make the vehicles change a bit on diff terrains, or something, not like transformers, but just like wheels go up, skis go down, and out come little jets, and thats it, :)

I wonder what a volcanic terrain vehicle would look like. :/
Edit: Transformers was a cool show.

Only the original, like around 1994 or somthing like that, early/mid 90's. The originals. THe transformers nowadays are dumb.

umm transformers...yummy. How bout we can have the ability to transform into mindless harmless pigs and when the enemies come we transform back into our original self. Kinda like mirage tank. Nah sucky idea :D

The 3d ones somewhere between 97-00...witht he animal transformers......today they're all stupid.....friggin cars i tell ya!!
just make the vehicles change a bit on diff terrains that would work. But then again the half water coninent....obviously the quads would become like jetskiis, but then how about a buggie? what changes would happen...... (this water thin doesn't count for the ground-to-water vehicles such as vanu vehicles).
I wonder what a volcanic terrain vehicle would look like. :/ lava camo all over it......and big wheels.;)

im not saying ALL of the vehicles would change, it would be cool if all of the lava continents vehicles were all really heavy plated with no windows, and you had a camera thing mounted outside of the vehicle that you saw out of, :) it would be uber slow, but you could go thru lava, :)

Vehicles suited to terrain would be actually very cool :) and you could have it that only people with certain CEP/BEP points could select it. That way it would prevent millions of the same vehicle being selected (ok maybe not millions).
Then again each continent has different climates? perhaps the vehicles for the different terain could only be selected if you control one a certain building on the continent etc.?

I don't get all the talk for having vehicles suited for certain terrains. Sure it's an idea......... But so is all-terrain vehicles. Which all the PS vehicles are, I might add.

yeah then they would have to add like 10 vehicles :( .

Mid 90's??? Pfft, I was watching the original G.I. Joe and Transformers (but not watching Go-Bots...OMG did that suck ass) when I was in grade school...something which (at the risk of dating myself) substantially pre-dated the 1990s.
As to the original subject....simply having continents with varied landscapes will be fine for limiting vehicles. Galaxies will be useful everywhere, but reavers/mosquitos won't be (except maybe to shoot down galaxies...). There will be places where ground vehicles barely function, and other places where infantry won't set foot outside of a base structure because they'd otherwise be instantly killed. I think that's all the variety we really need.
That entirely leaves aside the issue of effort and work. Some of the continents, for any one of a hundred reasons, are simply going to be more popular to fight on than others. Making new vehicles (just creating the model, texturizing it, animating it) is a huge amount of work. Then there are balancing issues on top of that. All of that takes up a substantial amount of effort from the devs which could be better invested elsewhere.
Also, how do you come up with 10 unique advantages to represent each continent that you could attach to a vehicle to make it unique? Easy to make a snowmobile for a frozen continent, but if there are 2 similar-but-different semi-tropical continents, do they get the same vehicle? Different ones? What do(es) this/these vehicle(s) do?
Finally, if and/or when an expansion comes out that adds a moon, or a new continent is formed, or a new planet, or whathaveyou, if there is a precident set for unique vehicles, the players would expect it on the new landscape as well, and that is just more headache for the devs to have to deal with.
If there was a truely unique enviornment (like underwater, or outer space), I could see putting in special that-spot-only vehicles to accomidate the special needs of the location, but unless one of those enviornments goes in, the current method is the best.
