View Full Version : Cool Outpost Layouts?

I think it would be a cool idea for the devs to build an outpost with a couple landing pads into the side of a huge cliff and have caves that go inside the cliff from the pads and there is tunnels that go through and you have to capture like 3 different rooms inside with the spawn being at the far end of the tunnels.

Anyone else have some interesting ideas for some smaller outpost layouts?

How about simple walls and a roof.

That is a much too defensible an sensible idea. How will the liberators farm their kills with an outpost designed like that? This outpost will only make vehicle drivers (mainly Lib pilot/gunners) start protest whine threads about this OutPost design.

I LIKE IT! lets do this! :D

LOL nice, ya Libs might have to wait for the rabbits to come out of their hole.

So you need to get past the wall of Bursters/Engys on those pads before you can land and assault the base via a cave?

Didnt they change Messa Skydock recently?

Tower variations would be most welcome

Interior only
Towers with verandas etc....

Two towers (crown-type airtowers) linked together with bridges.
One tower having the spawn and a SCU where the cap point usually is located.
The other tower contains the cap point(s).

Aroundd it these prefab base walls with one entry which is protected by a shield gen located in the courtyard.

That would be a cool outpost layout.

I'd like to play the variations already in game but they are on Amerish that rarely experiences any worthwhile action (Briggs).

The TR feels very much like the humans from Starship troopers. I would love if they made an outpost modeled after that one as homage to Starship Troopers.

I like the cliff idea actually. It looks cool and indoor/in-cave fighting to capture it seems like a nice change of scenery.

Anyways, something I thought was a bit strange was level design in general. It seems like a lot of level design in PS2 feel as if the developers are being cautious about being too unique. It feels as if they're cautious to make anything TOO drastic or outlandish which kind of makes everything feel very bland.

There are some bases in the game that kind of do stick out as being unique and cool, but I think this game in general could use more dramatic layouts...Vanu Archives, for instance, would be one of them...the Indar Crater being another. The terrain of each continent, to me, is more or less logical and makes sense but the actual outposts, facilities, etc...are kind of 'eh' to me. Then again, I guess thats what you get with modularized habshacks.

I like the Starship troopers base you guys may know this base its called the stronghold its right next to tawrich Tech Plant. This base is so much fun to fight at, vehicles cant get in, though you do have lib issues, but at least you can make it out the damn entrance. I like this base design alot, you have the walls surrounding the spawn box, and the enemy has to dismount and come in to take the points. This is a descent base design IMO.

The Stronghold is such a good defensible base that we don't get fights there very often (at least on sol tech). The enemy tends to avoid it for easier pickings. When there are fights there, they are always good ones.

I think the only thing that makes it the base to avoid as well is the fact that is so close to the NC warp gate. But I think that if it was more centered on the map there would be some great fights. :D

 so true... But IS that a Moroni statue on the top? I can't tell.

Great layout regardless. I'd like to see a base somethin like that.

Maybe if we actually DO get Vanu invaders someday (the ancient species, not the purple-spandex techno-religious nutjobs ;) ) we can have a continent specifically dedicated to SST style base defense. "BUGS!"

...Why do we need another Stronghold?

Indeed, why is such a great base buried so deep in Smurf Turf?

The Stronghold is easy to take if you know where to attack from.

What walls? :p

Anyway, its spawnroom is still too easy to camp, but it has a decent west-north-east outer perimeter. Needs a better keep though and really a way to protect against an ams on the ridge above. (Infantry tunnels to the top with lots of small entry points, wide tunnel with regular chokepoints or some sort of other passageway up with side protection)

I think it would be cool to move the Stronghold to a different part of the map. It feels way too close to NC territory to really reach its full potential as a combat area. If it were moved somewhere closer to the middle of the map or something where conflicts/territory change hands frequently, I think it would be more entertaining.
